Interesting. Another approach is to create a design in Designer then use File>Edit in Photo... Once in Affinity Photo (assuming you have it) click on the Live Filters icon at the bottom of the Layers palette. Near the bottom the list of Live filters is Halftone... Select it, then use File > Edit in Designer. Once your back in Designer you can open the filter's interface and make adjustments to suit your needs. Simple and fast.

just tried ordering these halftones but sadly my bank won't let the purchase go through, is there a PayPal option?
Thanks for the message and letting me know, send me a message to hello@mytshirtprinters.co.uk and I’ll send you a PayPal link 😀😉
I just started using Affinity Designer and your tutorials have helped immensely, looking forward to learning a lot more from you, thanks for the great vids!
I’ve had affinity on my computer for a while but I’m starting to explore more convenient effects or tutorials, learning more about the program. Thank you so much for that half tone effect.
Hey Madison! I must say I was the same, it’s just been there for awhile but fun to play around with 👍. Thanks for the awesome comment! 😉
Love your energy! I'm just now starting my illustration journey and your videos are awesome c:
Excellent tutorial! Thank you so much for this. I wasn't able to get it to replicate like you showed by holding the control-j, so I had to manual drag everything into place, but that's a small price to pay to have my own vector halftone effect now.
Appreciate the tutorial! It’s exactly what I was looking for but I went and bought the file since you had it at such a good price. Gonna use it in a project soon!
Thank you very much for supporting the channel!
Finally someone make the halftone on affinity design ,thanks a bunch man !! Keep it up !!!
Glad you like it!
Just found your channel.... great tutorial. I'll be watching more. I use Affinity Designer for designing shirts. This halftone will come in handy. Thanks
Awesome! Halftones add this extra element to designs that break them from the norm 🤘
Thank you so much! It really helped me. I'm writing a comment as my shapes divide :) can't wait for adding them... I should be doing it in winter, my computer right now could warm up a whole house.
However my guides wouldn't snap, no matter what. I had to do them by eye. But the result is still pretty good.
hahaha that's too funny, where your guide options are I think they are called snap options, make sure they are turned on.
These tutorials are usually a drag. You got a subscriber immediately. I look forward to learning from you.
Love it, thank you Brandon 👍
I’ve been binge watching your tutorials for Designer. I’m loving them. Gained a new subscriber in me. Gimme more! Oh look, my adding just finished!
Welcome aboard! That's awesome 😀
@@KeeponCreatingTV though I try and follow every step of this video but when I go to add the rest of the dots, they all turn small and trying other things just makes some disappear. I’ve done exactly what you did!
@@ChiefWammy My dots duplicate on top of each other instead to going down the page???
I'm still new to affinity but I'm using techniques I learned from Illustrator, thank you for this tutorial I hope for more Affinity Tutorials soon
Hey Aplo, Great game plan there! It's cool because they are pretty close with a few tweaks :-). Thanks for dropping a comment!
Yeah I mostly have to learn from Illustrator tutorials cos that is the popular software. I had to learn Paintshop Pro from Photoshop tutorials and books. I also learned music from Ableton while using the MPC software. I'm actually getting Ableton soon so it's gonna be my first time using a popular software and the software I learned from. Like can you believe I can use Photoshop but I've never used Photoshop? 😂
Always good to see another video from you Mike!
I dropped Adobe a while back and switched to Affinity, as I just couldn't justify the monthly cost printing my own designs.
Incidentally, I cleaned out all the lines on my printer, cleaned the heads, bled any air and primed the lines. With 100% all black CMYK it's better, but certainly not perfect. I need to test out some exposures and see if it's good enough for halftones and fine lines. Not quite sure at the moment, but time will tell!
Thanks Richie! Great stuff that you got your printer working, sounds like it was a mega job. I always get a little nervous opening up printers, so hats off to you man!
@@KeeponCreatingTV it was really very simple, Mike. I just bought a kit with some fluid and hoses to lock onto the nozzles. I'll let you know if I have any success.
Thank you for sharing this skill. I have been trying to do it but failing. Appreciated
Awesome! Thank you
This is great! I'm still a Designer newbie - from CorelDraw. I'll certainly check out all your creations from Affinity.
Awesome, thank you!
This video got you a new sub 🙌🏻 gosh affinity designer tutus this good are so hard to find!
Now that’s an awesome comment 😉. Thank you!
I've been waiting for someone to do this tutorial forever.!! Thank you.!!! Shout out, all the easy from TEXAS.!
Hey Vincent! Thanks for the comment, haha, bit of a workaround, but it works! ;-)
Yo what part of Texas? I’m from DFW fam

I know you have used the expand strike tool and gve brief idea what use for. Can you shed more light on what it does, and what best practice it used or can be used for?
Life saving video! Thank You sooo much, buddy! :)
Awesome Stuff! Thanks for your comment
So When I expand my stroke near the end it has a small moon shape not sure what I did wrong started from scratch several times with the same issue I have used affinity designer for a year and a half still learning as you never stop learning
Thanks for the video. To answer your question, I am new to Affinity Designer and have been living off of Paint Shop Pro 7 released under Windows 98. Time to go digital and get modern.
New to Affinity, been using Adobe software for 18 years, getting sick of all the extra fees and crap to be able to use it. Affinity does what I need and more at a fraction of the cost. Learing these work arounds also adds to my skills using Affinity Designer, Photo and Publisher.
great video mike awesome content as usual good stuff stay safe brother
You too supertee! Keep safe, keep creating! Always, always appreciate your comments 😁
I am new and enjoy your tutorials. I use Affinity Designer for screen printing.
Glad you like them! and I very much appreciate your awesome comment ;-)
Just got this program... and having a little difficulty, if anyone can help, Id appreciate it. I get to the part where you marque box the lower dots, hit the expand stroke button, then divide, then add.. and that works fine... but the top dots, I grab the same way as shown (shift+click), then expand stroke, then add.... and apparently something goes wrong. They seem to expand, but will not respond to the "add". If anyone has overcome this, or knows what i may be doing wrong... please advise
Yeah your doing great you are also influencer to me you are the reason why i started my own channel wonderful
Thanks ObeTech! Appreciate the comment 😉
one of my best
Great tutorial. To make these I would use Inkscape, interpolate tool. Save as SVG and import into affinity designer.
Thanks for the comment Bike Bodge, I haven’t tried Inkscape yet but a few people have mentioned it, will check it out
I'm very new to this Affinity design.
I'm wondering what will be the next step after creating dots?
Ooooo Abdul... going to have to wait till the next vid on affinity designer 😉 you spying on my notebook? 😁
So cool!!
Thanks ndcoach 👍
I followed all the instructions, but even though I "added" everything together when i click off and back on, it only selects the bottom section...not sure what I may have done wrong.
My Late 2019 16" MBP is taking forever to add the curves/ shapes... ugh! Dividing took time too but not like 'Adding.'
Excellent vid, thanks for putting this together.
Thanks R!
@@KeeponCreatingTV By the way, after I hit "Add" , I took a nap instead of getting a sandwich... lol ;-)
Hahahaha love it
Wow I thought you were exaggerating about the add... lol. Anyway great tutorials, I'm following along, doing it as I watch.
Your Awesome, thanks!
At about 6:33 how are you able to get the circle centered to the vertical guide ? Mine is simply locking too much to either side. Are you holding down a button to unlock it from the guides temporarily and it then re-locks somehow ? Thanks in advance, great tutorial
Ah ha! try turning off your guide snapping, which is just left off the 'add' / 'subtract' buttons on the top tool bar. Give that go 👍
Keep on Creating will do, to follow the tutorial I just held down Alt while dragging and tried to get it as centered as I could visually. Thanks for the fast reply !
You can leave snapping on, but turn off force pixel alignment. A point is one and one third pixels so Affinity is trying to line up whole pixels. The dots won't snap or jump into place, but the lines will light up to show alignment. It's just because we are working with such a small object.
@Jim Dart Thank Jim 👍⚡
Awesome content. Thanks.
Really really appreciate your comment 👍🤘
I am brand new. I have never used any kind of a program like this. My late wife was an expert in Adobe everything even taught college. But to be honest I think this is way above my pay scale. I have the book which is no help and when people like yourself show thing. You cover ground so fast I get left behind at good morning. I going to keep trying so keep showing and thanks
Thanks Kirk, appreciate it. Yup just pause do a little and go back a few steps then carry on. You’ll get it. Also the newer videos I try to slow down and have that in mind for future ones. All the best 👍
Great tutorial ,SUPER.
But I donˇt understand what I do wrong, but if I press te second ad, all tots become small like the first line, the botom tots are ok, but those that is in up -10 rod- is all small, what to do
Thanks nighurta! Just to check, once you have created your dot line you are going up to layer and selecting ‘expand stroke’ Making sure all of your lines have expanded. Let me know.
@@KeeponCreatingTV Thanks , it get better but after the deliting the dots that no united after the final ad, 1st line is ok but 2,3,4,5, are white inside I take prtscr prnt.sc/slauls
Just duplicated this situation, make sure fill and stroke are both set to black, starting with the second line.
Still get eyeballs when dividing. Any suggestions?
Cool. Thanks!
Good video bro!
Thanks Bru, hope you keeping healthy! 😉
i used when they were Serif they are in Nottingham great back up service
nicely done.
awesome video! A++
Thanks Juan - Hope your keeping well ;-)
haha, good one. how about using a grid instead guides workflow? anyway, wish to halftone 'tool' in AD
My vertical lines keep snapping just before or after center of the Dots. Like 10.0mm is just left of center and 10.1 is just right of center
Having a Vertical Snapping Issue too, Now in ADv2?? *I do have snapping settings same as vid?!
Nice, thanks
Thank you too!
after i expand my stroke, my circles looks like the have cat eyes in them. what im i doing wrong
Had the same problem, it was driving me nuts...I think it's a glitch in affinity unfortunately...
I fixed it by doing the "expand stroke / divide / add" sequence one line at a time. And even then sometimes it worked sometimes it didn't...
Don't get scared if you get the weird cat eyes effect during the procedure, you'll only be able to know it worked at the last step when you click "add" at the end.
Hope it will help !
omg why are you so beautiful??? Nice tutorial, thank you so much!!!! :)
Wow! On the ipad version, we don’t even get rulers. Is there a particular reason Serif doesn’t give the ipad affinity designer version the same tools as the desktop version? The ipad version is horrible.
HEY MIKE HOW THE DAY NICE VIDEO FRIEND
Hey Still Art! Thanks for the comment. I like your logo, reminds me of Santa Cruz ;-)
@@KeeponCreatingTV haha inspired by SC skateboarding

Love the arm swiped lol! This was amazing, and I just Subscribed and hit the bell. Keep the great content coming, and if you have free time to Peep my Affinity Photo and Designer videos it would be a blessing!
Thank you! Will do!
LOL...
You weren't kidding about making that sandwich and coffee....
My app basically froze my pc and then the app closed.... LOL
I guess 16Gb RAM isn't enough
Still, good tutorial :)
hahaha, this is too funny 😂.
@@KeeponCreatingTV funny thing.
I opened Affinity again, it told me it had an unsaved file, do I wish to open it. I thought sure...
Well it open this tutorial file, i thought, right let's try the last couple of steps again...
Bad idea... Lol.
I think i may have done something wrong somewhere, because this is the FIRST time any program or game used both 100% CPU and RAM...
Thing froze like the last ice age...
Eventually I managed to kill off the app.
Sheesh... Lol.
Your tutorial should come with a warning to people on older and midrange PC'S!
Warning, this tutorial may freeze your PC and paradoxically melt it's brain...
Im thinking of trying the tutorial again on a much... Much smaller scale! Lol.
Funny enough mine is also freezing but not on the bottom larger circles but on the second upper section. Hilarious lmao :’)
Still giving me a smile. Yup smaller scale then add the together part by part so it’s maybe not a huge bunch of information to combine, think that makes sense 🤔
@@giovannipiris5285 yes mine froze for a bit on the bottom sections, but the app bombed out on the upper section, strange, lol...
I'm guessing my CPU and RAM decided, screw this, im tired... Lol.
Nice bro
Mike i have pm
