Have you not noticed it's always the one on the left end that doesn't last long? Deborah and Peter seem to be really close pals wouldn't you say, I swear they have at least kissed
While I like Debrah, you can often see she is business partner and close friend with Peter. They often prop each other up and work together to undermine other dragons, so one of them wins the desired product.
One of the things that was characteristic of Dragons' Den during Theo's early years was that he would repeatedly row in behind whatever Peter said and the first clip here's a classic example. Theo wouldn't have kicked off about the percentages unless Peter had already done the same.
The deal with the first gentleman, Rotormate did not go through after the show and Rotomate is no longer in business. The young man who pitched it is probably doing well in life. He seemed smart and motivated.
He seemed a bit dim really. He thinks that because there are four main manufacturers, they must all have an equal share of the market. I'm not even sure how you could think that would be the case, even with the most basic knowledge.
Peter declares himself out and yet seems to feel the need to argue about Richard’s deal on behalf of the entrepreneur. So weird. It’s clear he didn’t like the competition coming from Richard.
So you’re greedy if you’re taking more from him but treating him badly for defending his company? Apparently the dragons can never do good in some peoples eyes
Really? He's tried intimidating people again and again. I remember him setting a time limit on an offer and doing a countdown while a poor guy stood there trying to talk to other dragons.
Hah, okay. He constantly tries to twist people's arms into accepting bad offers. He's even pressed people to accept his offer before they've even heard from all of the other dragons, on multiple occasions.
I thought it was annoying in this case though, because he was already out. It was rude of him to butt in and try to influence an offer he has nothing to do with.
I like how the dragons called out Deborah and Richard for demanding 40% of that young guy's business. It shows they do have morals and don't like to see people taken advantage of. It's a shame that he sold 40% of his business but on the plus side maybe it helped him get started. It's also interesting to see how the two highly defensive entrepreneurs had zero self awareness, and instead 100% blamed the dragons, unable to see their own bad attitudes. There's people like that in a lot of workplaces and they're so difficult to work with.
That washing line product - I just don't get it. Sure, it can stop rain that falls totally vertically, but how can it keep clothes dry when the wind is blowing the rain horizontally at the clothes (like it is doing outside my window right now)?
The nervous woman clearly had a chip on her shoulder about feminism. Imagine working with her. You'd have to watch everything you said so that she didn't twist only and use it against you.
Haha, it was great watching that woman get crushed. She also destroyed her own argument. "if 20 men show up and one woman, a man is going to be hired." Yeah, exactly, that is why there are more men in trade work, because more men are interested. Her attempt at fighting discrimination (that doesn't exist) is very descriminatory.
She was misguided, had a terrible attitude and was awful. But, gender-based work discrimination is a very real thing. It's happened for a long time and continues to happen. There is an abundance of empirical evidence to support that.
How come people never negotiate properly? Isn't that like the first rule of trading or is it different when you go to investors? They say 10%, Dragons say they want 15% and 75% of idiots coming on then say "Yea dats kinda my company, can you go down pls?". This is more a general question after binging alot of stuff on here
Also after watching a lot of Den I think some of the enterpreneurs from the very beggining purposely overprice their companies just to have better starting point in negotiations or not to have to negotiate any further when the dragons' bid is way over initial percentage offer. It's the enterpreneurs who overprice their businesses extremely, starting with giving up not more than 1-3% of the equity, that are ridiculed by the dragons, Peter especially.
They legitimately believed that offering 15% of one company and 5% of another meant offering 20% of both. How could a company (or two) possibly function with this lack of acumen at the top?
Deborah did not play fair there. She offered all the money for 20% but Richard misunderstood and thought that he and Deborah were going halves at 20% *each*. She did not correct him so the guy ended up giving away 40%. Peter was right to call it out but unless something was left out in editing the young guy just got confused by it all.
she never says that. she just says she would go for 20. she later says she would absolutely not go down from 20 for half. how could that be true if she originally intended to offer 20 for the whole amount? what she said was probably just edited weird or smth why would she offer 20 for the full amount in the first place if she was going to immediately say “oh yeah 20 for half sounds like a way better deal” richard’s offer of going halves was already on the table. there was no reason for her not to match that.
