We have our problems here in the States also. If you are an illegal immigrant here your needs and the needs of your children are given high priority here. If you are a homeless veteran than too bad for you. If you are a senior who has paid in all your life and must now choose between food or prescription medications than too bad for you.
I am a british expat living here in Davao with my filipina partner. I still own a house in the uk. I am one of the lucky men who had a good private pension and now a state pension. I am renting a new 2 bedroom house in Davao for only 7000 pesos a month. The cost of living here in Davao is low. I also bought land on Samal island for my filipina partner. Life here is good.
Do you rent your UK house out? I'm currently in the UK & will be moving to S.E Asia asap...just two elderly dogs keeping me here atm. I intend to keep my UK home & use while visiting family & friends in the UK summer (say 3months) Maybe in time I will rent it out or daughter live in it. Time will tell. Just don't want to sell it as its my daughters inheritance.

I'm from American, was just having this same talk with my son on one of the main reasons I moved here 6yrs ago, and cancelled my hospital insurance, got almost a 200.00 pay raise, because it can't be used here 😢 and for the first time in my life I have savings in the bank👍

I moved to the Philippines because I live on a pension and unable to live in my country. Plus, the rat-race was killing me before my time. One of the hardest hitting vids you've made but so Bloody true! Personally, I'm moving into my motorhome soon - kids now living with mum after giving up my rental home after years of shared care. A few more years & after I lose my elderly, then I'm moving to Moalboal to where I can live on the land of my best friends partner. Obviously on the condition, it will be retuned to her upon my passing & there will be a few of us doing the same.

Stephen the pensioners here in uk 🇬🇧 no longer get heating allowance. They also took away their free tv licence. There was talk initially of them removing the free bus pass but as far as i know its still in existence. Last night my partner Stephen had to be admitted to hospital which took 6 hours. He is a pensioner btw. We were shocked at the amount of elderly people in beds or chairs lining the corridors. At 1am this morning after as i said 6 hours, they decided to keep Stephen in. They had no bed and he had to sleep in a chair in his state. It was a recliner chair but still! I immigrated here from SOUTH AFRICA 23 years ago because of the very things im now witnessing here. I love the Uk but it's not the same and now a concerning subject. Appreciate your apt video ! Ps the government is now talking about taxing pensions to add fuel to the 🔥
As a Canadian who lived in Canada before moving to Philippines, we made very good money, could barely save anything despite minimizing expenses - taxes and debt were the big drivers to leave. People in PH are simply amazing, which makes it so enjoyable here. The warm weather and sunshine is great!
Poverty is a great sin. I worked for many years in Canada, represented by a union, Unifor, but when General Motors decided to fire me out; GM hates legacy employees, neither Unifor nor the Ontario Labour Relations Board protected me from unlawful dismissal. Workers used to have rights in Canada, then the unions became corrupt and the government . . . well . . . they look out for themselves.
You voted for the union leaders and canadian leaders, avoid all unions and all big gorverment states (high tax). Look for others to control you negotiate for you and the result is always bad. Its sad to see but I remember many Canadians mocking U.S. for not having all the social programs of Canada.
Those who would call people losers for leaving their failing country, are just too scared to make the move themselves. They would rather wallow in unhappiness and criticize the brave who made the move.

This topic has certainly struck a nerve with many Expats...who are now sharing their wonderful stories of living the good life here in the Philippines...these testimonials serve as a clear rebuttal to the many negative comments in the last video. Not sure if this was your plan all along, but if so, what a brilliant strategy! So here's to all the big winners in Life who are enjoying their retirements in the Philippines! But even though I count myself as one of them, I also realize that I'm in the distinct minority. Over the years I've hosted so many friends and family from all over the world. I would say that they all enjoyed themselves to various levels, but for half of them, the trip was more like something to check off their bucket list, along with Thailand, Vietnam and other places in SE Asia. Then there is another 25% who would never consider moving here because something, either a negative experience here, or the fear of moving to a far away foreign country, leaving behind friends or family whom they might be close to, or the poverty, the pollution, etc. would prevent them from ever considering a move to the Philippines. But then there's the other 25% of us who either want to permanently move to the Philippines or have already done so. The combination of excitement of starting a new life in a foreign country, genial people, warmer weather, being able to speak English, stunning beaches and mountain/province life, access to a wide range of fresh fruit and veg, and bountiful seafoods, beautiful women inside and out, relatively foreigner friendly visas, and yes, lower cost of living, make it a slam dunk case for us. Although a lot has to go right for someone to make a permanent move to the Philippines and transition to a happy life here, what must also be said is that the Philippines offers a softer landing place than almost any other foreign country. house prices in south australia have gone up 450, thousand in the last 12 months ,, what was a 300,000 home now costs 750,000 , chinese investors and chinese drug money .. its even worse in Sydney where houses are a couple of million.. with all the migrants ,,, the rental market has gone through the roof ... 8 months ago,, 300 per week , now 600 plus per week .. most people working would be lucky if they got 1000 per week after tax ..... australia is no longer the lucky country,,, so many aussies cant stand it here anymore .. its spot the australian at any shopping centre now .. some migrant groups have taken over entire suburbs ..
In Australia 35 years ago they introduced superannuation, in other words you have to fund your own pension, no more government pensions, the problem is that unless you have a very high paying job your doomed. Plus the keep increasing the retirement age , it now stands at 67, average life expectancy is 80, so you work all your life until your basically worn-out then spend the possible 13 years you have left eating cornflakes if you lucky. So sometime in the next 10 to 15 years when all these people wake-up its going to be a nightmare 😮 Im so glad i got out when i did, the Philippines has its challenges but I'd choose challenges any day over being old and broke 😂

ALL of the fund options in your Super account are associated with Vangaurd, Blackrock, T.Rowe, the same guys in every single Superannuation company. Coles, Woolworths, EnergyAustralia, OriginEnergy, CBA, NAB....are all listed on the ASX and they serve their Shareholders, not the customers. They are all biased to making profit, not being socially responsible as they used to be prior to being floated on the ASX

There is never a major change without a combination of both push factors and pull factors. Without push factors you have no reason to look around for something else. This goes for employment, a partner, a country of residence. If you have the push factors, you start looking for a change, but a move needs pull factors from a new place or person.
For me it was not the money, It was the people. A lot of America has become so hateful and selfish I just didn't want to be there any longer. No, It is far from perfect here in the Philippines but the people here are 100 times better. Never going back! Keep the great videos coming!
I always enjoy going to Jamaica many times. So I always enjoyed the green space and gardening. At a young age I always knew I was going to retire in such a place. I found it in eastern Mindanao and way way cheaper 😊😊😊 With people that make me feel at home and peaceful 😊
For good reason. I'm that hateful one yoi speak of. It's because of the sheeple and vaxxers. Politics too. When I visit ONCE a year the USA , I am reaffirmed why I left. And it is everywhere. Been watching your past half dozen vlogs & as a English guy approaching 60, i agree with what youre about & say. I will be in S.E Asia as soon as my elderly dogs are no more. I will be keeping my UK house though, as i intend to spend 3 months in the summer here, while seeing family & friends.

The US is 62, for taking "early" GOV "Pension" (Social Security) .. At 62, you sacrifice about 30% per mos had you waited until Full Retire Age (66 raised to 67 depending on birth year) .. Despite saying they'll wait until 65 or 67, I read the "average" American takes it early (at 62) and the "Average benefit (at 62) is $1,800 (usd) per mos .. Average 2 Br Rent here in NH is $2400 mos ($3400+ in Boston, MA area) .. I have "cheaper" rent, and Saving ("Interest Depending on Econ) but I would have to work part time (soc sec allows) just to "Get By" (break even) or Get a Roommate .. So, See you back in SE Asia, in the spring ..
I for one am going to break the chain of poor living standards in old age in my family. My Grandfather died at age 86 cleaning the snow off the car going to a part-time job to pay the bills. My parents outlived their retirement money also and needed help from their children. For me, im Philippines bound next stop. The last trip I will take is the one to the concrete sleeping room I have in a PH cemetery. I will enjoy my old age with qyality of life.
Real Wages (adjusted for Inflation) Peaked, in the US, in 1978 .. The Price of housing (rent or house taxes etc) as a percent of income, (along with everything else) and add 20% (worldwide) Pandemic Inflation (30% housing) has further "put the screws" to people on the lower end already living paycheck to paycheck ..
Exactly! That's why we are retiring there in 3 yrs because our social security will just keep us all in our house, don't go anywhere, and barely get by if we stay here. No quality of life. Cannot wait to leave this country
Your right last 20 years I worked made above avg but life can take away your savings sometimes and you make hard choices thats just life no regrets coming here
My pension is nice, but if we were still back in the States, I would have to still work to survive at the prices everything is at today. That and decades ago I promised my Filipina wife, that if she gave me 30 years in the states, that I would return the favour for the next 30 years. So here we are!
I left during the Obama years. I moved abroad at 54. Now 10 years later i lived in 3 countries and am worth more now than 10 years ago. In essence livivg for free. Its great.
Hi Steve...the uk state pension will increase by 4.1% on the 1st of April to £230.25 per week..its guaranteed to increase at least 2.5%p per year and if inflation is higher it will match inflation...and yes its 35 years contributions for full state pension.....also since 2010 everyone in employment gets automatically enrolled in to a private pension aswell regardless if you want to or not
One thing I really enjoy in PH is that outside of the big cities, fresh, healthy food is available for cheaper than imported trash. Fresh beef from cows slaughtered in the morning, freshly caught fish, and access to a ton of fresh fruit. It's easier to live a healthier life there.

What you said about fighting for your country. I'm canadian. I speak to a lot of folks from around the world including american, canadian, british, Australia and you name it. The younger generation feels exactly the same way. They're tired of fighting Wars for old men with money. Fighting and getting injured and dying and having post-traumatic stress and being thrown into the street like a piece of crap. The younger generation has gotten smarter. They're not going to fall for it anymore. The greedy old men are going to have to fight their own battles now.
If you go back in history you will see the exact same thing happened before, its not that it’s bad. In the 16/1700, hundreds of thousands left for same reasons , jobs hard to find and many could not afford anything so they left for the u.s. to make better. But with today’s world we are doing it kinda for the same reasons, Just like years ago . But what happens is we come to less developed countries and bring money into them and yes it makes a difference to whatever country that is. I think it just comes down to survival and how much people want to put up with but in the recent years I’ve noticed a lot of work from home people coming here and spending a lot of money especially in bgc and I think that is what is going to be the downfall. There’s always been expats here but the numbers have tripled or more in recent years.
They arent really "driving" us out. There just isn't an incentive to keep us at home. Unfortunately, we no longer addanything to the economy. Yes, we would be spending our money at home, adding money back into the economy but that just makes retirees an unecessary middleman so there is no incentive to take better care of old people. To almost any nation, retirees are an expense, a liability, not an assett.
It was one of the biggest incentives foe me to go to the Phillipines, the quality of life in NZ in retirement will be very poor,far too expensive and if you are renting, you're screwed,youll almost starve.

Few know just how low members of our (USA) government actually are. This is a lengthy story but to give more or less complete information it just is. My father was a marine serving in SE Asia during WW II. He, like many others, was taken prisoner by the Japanese and held for two years. During this time, neither he nor my mother received his paycheck. It wasn't until 30 ~ 40 years later that veterans groups managed to convince the Gov to provide the money they had withheld for so many years. My father was no longer living, but my mother was supposed to receive a whopping $16,000 for the roughly two years of back pay. She didn't hear anything about it until the IRS audited her taxes because she had not claimed the money as income. As she had never received it, I was asked to check on it. The money had not been paid to her, but to some low life politician that had stolen it. She never received the money, and no one was interested in investigating who had stolen it. What wonderful people serve as our leaders.

Rather like you, I am an old English fogey living in the PI. I rather disagree that our country has driven us out. The pension may be small, but don't forget that would be double if your wife also had a pension. And nobody forced us to come here, we came of our own accord. I would not come here at my present advanced age. Britain is so much better in many respects. What about second hand book shops, Wetherspoons, meat pies, fish and chips, national parks, etc. But I made my bed and have to lie in it!
Australia is not any better for old age pensioners equal to 1000 pounds a month plus the aussie dollar is falling in value faster than most currencies which is around 25% of what is needed to survive here thats why im in the phils but its so difficult to get it paid in the phils
in Canada the rule of thumb is that the government tops up everybody's pension so we all get close to 2,000 Canadian dollars a month. but the catch is if you're out of Canada for more than 6 months a year, you get that reduced by 40%. so as much as I'd like to come to Asia all the going back and forth would be too expensive. so now I'm looking at what part of Mexico is cheapest but what's difficult is when you come back. where do you live each year? campground in a tent
I mean according to the data, the average pensioner in the UK has more net worth than any other generation, they had good access to mortgage and home ownership. So as bad as it is for them it's even worse for others. But yes for those who have no savings it has to be bleak. I expect that group of people to increase over the years until like in America there will be pensioners living in tents on the street.

I never been to the phillipines but for the past 2 years traveling asia as someone who is homeless retired i dont think the “financial fortunate” in say danmark whare im from dont want anybody to leave but ther sure is a constant pressure on those how have little to nothing as an example i can say from being early retired give me more savings then i been able to have wirking over 27 years in danmark and sure i am homeless now but i travel i sleep in cheap hotels and motels till i find my new way and from old retirement i know ther is more and more restrictions on how mutch a retired person can travel without financial punishment about 8 years ago in danmark if someone is early retired they will lose 50% of the retirement for staying outside of say eu more or less things are getting pushed by the financial fortunate more and more i wish you all the best no mattter the situation but be fair to each other and make better relationships rather then take everything from each other just becouse you can
If you are lazy and feckless then why is it the governments responsibility to pay for your lack of endeavour? If you have no money then you probable haven't worked or paid taxes for most of your life. No one to blame, but yourself.

The combination of excitement of starting a new life in a foreign country, genial people, warmer weather, being able to speak English, stunning beaches and mountain/province life, access to a wide range of fresh fruit and veg, and bountiful seafoods, beautiful women inside and out, relatively foreigner friendly visas, and yes, lower cost of living, make it a slam dunk case for us. Although a lot has to go right for someone to make a permanent move to the Philippines and transition to a happy life here, what must also be said is that the Philippines offers a softer landing place than almost any other foreign country. In Australia 35 years ago they introduced superannuation, in other words you have to fund your own pension, no more government pensions, the problem is that unless you have a very high paying job your doomed.
Plus the keep increasing the retirement age , it now stands at 67, average life expectancy is 80, so you work all your life until your basically worn-out then spend the possible 13 years you have left eating cornflakes if you lucky.
So sometime in the next 10 to 15 years when all these people wake-up its going to be a nightmare 😮

ALL of the fund options in your Super account are associated with Vangaurd, Blackrock, T.Rowe, the same guys in every single Superannuation company. Coles, Woolworths, EnergyAustralia, OriginEnergy, CBA, NAB....are all listed on the ASX and they serve their Shareholders, not the customers. They are all biased to making profit, not being socially responsible as they used to be prior to being floated on the ASX

There is never a major change without a combination of both push factors and pull factors. Without push factors you have no reason to look around for something else. This goes for employment, a partner, a country of residence. If you have the push factors, you start looking for a change, but a move needs pull factors from a new place or person.

I always enjoy going to Jamaica many times. So I always enjoyed the green space and gardening. At a young age I always knew I was going to retire in such a place. I found it in eastern Mindanao and way way cheaper 😊😊😊 With people that make me feel at home and peaceful 😊

The US is 62, for taking "early" GOV "Pension" (Social Security) .. At 62, you sacrifice about 30% per mos had you waited until Full Retire Age (66 raised to 67 depending on birth year) .. Despite saying they'll wait until 65 or 67, I read the "average" American takes it early (at 62) and the "Average benefit (at 62) is $1,800 (usd) per mos .. Average 2 Br Rent here in NH is $2400 mos ($3400+ in Boston, MA area) .. I have "cheaper" rent, and Saving ("Interest Depending on Econ) but I would have to work part time (soc sec allows) just to "Get By" (break even) or Get a Roommate .. So, See you back in SE Asia, in the spring ..
I for one am going to break the chain of poor living standards in old age in my family. My Grandfather died at age 86 cleaning the snow off the car going to a part-time job to pay the bills. My parents outlived their retirement money also and needed help from their children. For me, im Philippines bound next stop. The last trip I will take is the one to the concrete sleeping room I have in a PH cemetery. I will enjoy my old age with qyality of life.

Hi Steve...the uk state pension will increase by 4.1% on the 1st of April to £230.25 per week..its guaranteed to increase at least 2.5%p per year and if inflation is higher it will match inflation...and yes its 35 years contributions for full state pension.....also since 2010 everyone in employment gets automatically enrolled in to a private pension aswell regardless if you want to or not

One thing I really enjoy in PH is that outside of the big cities, fresh, healthy food is available for cheaper than imported trash. Fresh beef from cows slaughtered in the morning, freshly caught fish, and access to a ton of fresh fruit. It's easier to live a healthier life there.

What you said about fighting for your country. I'm canadian. I speak to a lot of folks from around the world including american, canadian, british, Australia and you name it. The younger generation feels exactly the same way. They're tired of fighting Wars for old men with money. Fighting and getting injured and dying and having post-traumatic stress and being thrown into the street like a piece of crap. The younger generation has gotten smarter. They're not going to fall for it anymore. The greedy old men are going to have to fight their own battles now.

If you go back in history you will see the exact same thing happened before, its not that it’s bad. In the 16/1700, hundreds of thousands left for same reasons , jobs hard to find and many could not afford anything so they left for the u.s. to make better. But with today’s world we are doing it kinda for the same reasons, Just like years ago . But what happens is we come to less developed countries and bring money into them and yes it makes a difference to whatever country that is. I think it just comes down to survival and how much people want to put up with but in the recent years I’ve noticed a lot of work from home people coming here and spending a lot of money especially in bgc and I think that is what is going to be the downfall. There’s always been expats here but the numbers have tripled or more in recent years.
They arent really "driving" us out. There just isn't an incentive to keep us at home. Unfortunately, we no longer addanything to the economy. Yes, we would be spending our money at home, adding money back into the economy but that just makes retirees an unecessary middleman so there is no incentive to take better care of old people. To almost any nation, retirees are an expense, a liability, not an assett.

Few know just how low members of our (USA) government actually are. This is a lengthy story but to give more or less complete information it just is. My father was a marine serving in SE Asia during WW II. He, like many others, was taken prisoner by the Japanese and held for two years. During this time, neither he nor my mother received his paycheck. It wasn't until 30 ~ 40 years later that veterans groups managed to convince the Gov to provide the money they had withheld for so many years. My father was no longer living, but my mother was supposed to receive a whopping $16,000 for the roughly two years of back pay. She didn't hear anything about it until the IRS audited her taxes because she had not claimed the money as income. As she had never received it, I was asked to check on it. The money had not been paid to her, but to some low life politician that had stolen it. She never received the money, and no one was interested in investigating who had stolen it. What wonderful people serve as our leaders.

Rather like you, I am an old English fogey living in the PI. I rather disagree that our country has driven us out. The pension may be small, but don't forget that would be double if your wife also had a pension. And nobody forced us to come here, we came of our own accord. I would not come here at my present advanced age. Britain is so much better in many respects. What about second hand book shops, Wetherspoons, meat pies, fish and chips, national parks, etc. But I made my bed and have to lie in it!

Australia is not any better for old age pensioners equal to 1000 pounds a month plus the aussie dollar is falling in value faster than most currencies which is around 25% of what is needed to survive here thats why im in the phils but its so difficult to get it paid in the phils
in Canada the rule of thumb is that the government tops up everybody's pension so we all get close to 2,000 Canadian dollars a month. but the catch is if you're out of Canada for more than 6 months a year, you get that reduced by 40%. so as much as I'd like to come to Asia all the going back and forth would be too expensive. so now I'm looking at what part of Mexico is cheapest but what's difficult is when you come back. where do you live each year? campground in a tent

So as bad as it is for them it's even worse for others. But yes for those who have no savings it has to be bleak. I never been to the phillipines but for the past 2 years traveling asia as someone who is homeless retired i dont think the “financial fortunate” in say danmark whare im from dont want anybody to leave but ther sure is a constant pressure on those how have little to nothing as an example i can say from being early retired give me more savings then i been able to have wirking over 27 years in danmark and sure i am homeless now but i travel i sleep in cheap hotels and motels till i find my new way and from old retirement i know ther is more and more restrictions on how mutch a retired person can travel without financial punishment about 8 years ago in danmark if someone is early retired they will lose 50% of the retirement for staying outside of say eu more or less things are getting pushed by the financial fortunate more and more i wish you all the best no mattter the situation but be fair to each other and make better relationships rather then take everything from each other just becouse you can
