  • Here now is a compilation of the magnificent 4-6-4 "Hudson" locomotives of American quality. Most seen here are of the New York Central or New England railways. Some are streamlined while others look more like the inspiration for the Lionel Lines 2-6-4 locomotives so reminiscent of electric model trains from days of yore. Hope you enjoy!

Hudsons are unique. Sad that very few are still around

Same. Alfred Perlman try to saved the NYC but one of the negative history is that he didn’t preserves a single fame steam engine for posterity along with the Mohawk and the Niagara. But plus side that while we only have a few non-operating American 4-6-4, CP 2816 is now in operation and will be having a tour on early 2023.

Isn't that funny? The Canadians found the value in operational preserved Hudsons but we didn't haha

@@WaltsNephew The same can be said for the unusual 4-4-4 Jubilee, which they also preserve while we have 0 surviving. Also, are you aware about 2816 being the first steam locomotive to travel the entire North America when the KCS merger celebration.

Quite true! There's an argument to make as to if they are better than Pacifics or not

In mexico they also got 4-6-4 hudsons, the hudsons from NdeM we're build by Alco in 1932, they build only 10 the class of the engine was NR-1, all of the 9 hudsons we're scrap, but only one hudson from NdeM was survived no. 2708 is the only one, today is on display in the museum of trains in Aguascalientes México.

You can definitely see NYC inspiration in the design of that engine!

@@WaltsNephew Are you also familiar with the old Florida Keys railroad built by Henry Flagler that operated from 1912-1935? I believe it was called The Overseas Railroad

I had to look it up and, though I am not greatly familiar with the line, I have seen photographs of it before. The photographs and paintings of trains crossing the ocean on narrow bridges is fascinating

@@WaltsNephew Sadly it was destroyed by a hurricane in 1935. It killed 400 people. It was never rebuilt. Shame because it was so amazing to have a railroad crossing the seas to the Florida Keys

It would've been nice had it survived. But when a railroad is pitted against the elements, chances are Mother Nature will prevail haha

This video is great! Although almost no Hudson’s are in service today, I think this video is very great. However I have bad news. Coaster fan 2105 got removed from the RUclips partnership program.

@@WaltsNephew there was plan to build a replica but was decided to build a class that had a dubious speed record and reliability of its years of operation. What am I talking about? It’s the T1 Trust that had this idea before the 5550 but was chosen to its current project.

@@hartjdr.agustin9745 Ahhhh, didn't know that! I am looking forward to seeing the T1 completed (and if she'll go for Mallard's speed record) but I think that someday in the future, with the fancy technology we have, someone will be inspired to have a go at constructing a NYC Hudson
