Wasn't sure whether anyone already commented on this, but did you see that this episode is a little derivative of "The Red Shoes" (1948)? Demanding director forcing prima ballerina to choose between love and the dance. It's a beautiful, artistic film and, I believe, still holds up well.
Why is the fact that Willie was married never mentioned again in any episodes? He was so in love with her supposedly. She died of cancer but Willie was seemingly unaffected. Also, what happened to McGee? He proposed to her as well? I wish the stories had more continuity. I still love this lovely show though.
Actually they show some short comments about Willie had been married and also quite a few episodes after the death of the wife shows Willie just at home or running errands for the family reflecting that a fair good amount of time passed and he was reclusive ...It helps to watch the episodes in chronological order.

As bad as Nancy when she was practicing to write the Bar exam and that guy across the hall who moved in developed a fixation on her and within hours of meeting they were swapping spit and I kept thinking my God I don't know which one is worse Nancy or Willie they seem to have real issues committing to a relationship with anyone the sleep with. Doug and Kate have a strong marriage but their kids don't seem to share their morals.
OK, now I've seen everything: Kate exercising in a dress!! Was there some clause in her contract that she never wore pants (or exercise clothes)? Who does this! 😵

The dumb chick from the health food store wasn't very bright and she was a single mom with a lil baby she would've taken anyone. The radiation chick was cute but he had to practically beg her she kept kicking him to the curb. Diane from Cheers was a big flake. Bambi the stripper was desperate and also not very bright. So Willie didn't really have it going on he managed to finagle dumb and desperate chicks. And the ballerina was half nuts from overwork.

It seems as though the writers were trying hard to make him a heart throb but he didn’t have anything to bring to the table. In real life he would have been playing video games in the garage apartment and spending his evenings at the triple X theatre alone.

Well her given name was Leticia. I guess she hated it. She could've gone by Tisha but maybe early in the show she hit on Buddy and has gone by that ever since. Even her teachers call her Buddy. Nice of them. I had one teacher who didn't believe in nicknames. It had to be your birth certificate name. The parents didn't argue for the kid's choice in those days.
