F87 M2c owner here. Agree 100% with your entire rant. It was interesting reading the comments on Insta from the posting by the official BMW M account - they were absolutely brutal, about 10-1 extremely negative. I suppose part of the problem is they set the bar so high with the F87 design-wise, then followed up with this turd. It also doesn't help that the car has gained almost 300 lbs. And don't even get me started about that drive-in theatre screen tacked onto the top of the dash!
When the OG M2 with apex N55 came out it created a design bar that will not be passed anytime soon (if ever). Zero design issues. With M2C, some commented on the udder exhaust and butterfly grill which detracted from the historical classics, but that is minor compared to 2023.

I do like the designs at a glance, but the more you look at them, they look like they tried to combine to many design points. Its not sleek, but its not boxy, its not techy but its not classic either..... M2 still looks better than the M4 IMO
Agree with you 100%. I’m a designer, and design means a lot in a car. I grabbed a 2021 Audi TT RS before Audi follows BMW off the cliff. We’re witnessing the end of small sports coupes in America. Sad.
Happy to see your uploads again! As an OG M2 owner for over 5 years now, this was a highly anticipated reveal for me. Not sure how i feel about it. The design lacks emotion, it looks stale, and lacks a sort of flow that BMW’s in the past always captured. I agree that the front end is ugly, it looks like a lazy afterthought, a poor photoshop render. Maybe in person it will be different. At least it’ll drive great and be a force to reckon with given the S58 engine!
To be honest it doesn't look as bad compare to leaked image and M240i .. sure its got boxy theme going. But main concern is this little 2 door coupe will weigh around 3900 pounds with ZF transmission. So much for "light weight short wheel base small coupe"
Hello everyone, I agree that the new G-series models are not easy to adapt for BMW enthusiasts. But I also could understand the challenges the designers have to deal with. The new M2 reminds me a lot of the 1M coupe, but in my opinion the styling/design doesn’t fit so well, because the new car is too long/big. And there are too many „new“ ideas involded. Like the whole head- and taillights. As Omar said, with the f-series the design evolved more. Now it is more of a revolution and there were many people shouting „BMW‘s design language is so boring.“. So I guess that is why we have to deal with this extreme change. And probably sales figures in the asian market. I totally agree, that the f-series is more pleasing to the eyes and somehow more engaging (DCT..). But as a G21 Touring owner, I do really appreciate the new interior (OS 7 Infotainmentsystem, not OS 8 for now 😉) and with „tastefully“ added aftermarket parts, like the parts from 3D Design Japan or Vorsteiner, the new G22 M440i or G82 looks pretty nice. And also a bit lowered. Maybe that is what the designers had in mind, too. Probably a evolved design of the f-series, like the new 8 series, with the new interior, would be perfect. But let’s see what the LCI might bring? I do appreciate that BMW tries its best to please the enthusiasts( 6 cylinder motor, manual, a lot of Motorsport parts used, 4 coupes, not only sedans and SUVs and even a M3 Touring) and the more luxury focused customers (better interior, more tech, more options to individualise their cars). Yes, I‘m a fanboy, but I do also like other car brands. And compared to let’s say AUDI and Mercedes-Benz, they try to give us more options even though here in the EU the regulations get tougher each year. And to be fair the g-series cars could look good (not beautiful, I think that never was the aim) when they were modded carefully. And they had to do something. So maybe they will calm down now, as they reached the limit of acceptance. I still believe they could built nice handling and good looking cars. Greetings, Julian

With the new design language you have to add more parts and tune it a lot more to make it more pleasing. Even though there might be a lot of people which won‘t agree with me either. But I do understand that the designers had to do something, so that the styling isn’t so redundant. And since I like the new interior more (even though there is nothing wrong with an analog speedometer), for me modding (lowering springs, spacers, frontlip, wheels, etc.) a G8x/G2x would be more reasonable than investing in a full customization of a F8x interior. But I could totally understand if the new styling is quite „questionable“. We have to see if the LCI versions might fix some of the rather tough styling decisions. @@jlnmlng8372 Happy New Years too ;). Haha I am a new BMW family member since last Month when I bought my M2C. I waited for the new M2 because that was the last hope I had for the G8X Models. I got the opportunity at the Essen Motor Show in Germany to see the new M2 in flesh and even take a sit and I was really disappointed. Apart from the obvious exterior “problems” 😂 the big screen inside was so bulky and unnatural. Don’t get me wrong, the interior looks nice but it didn’t had this oldschool, classy BMW vibe for me. But indeed the F8X interior isn’t modern 2022 standards but that’s what really catches me and reminds me of the E90 / E46 etc. It was a total different feeling to the M Models I was used to see. The same goes to the G8X M4 and M3 Touring I sat in, it’s strange to explain. It seems to be a lot more digital to me than the previous generations and that has a different Charme. I am 23 so it’s definitely not my age 😂. Overall I am very happy that I bought an F87 M2C. I love this car and the F8X generation. I think it also has a lot to do with being able to afford a dream that you saw on the streets for so many years driving by, kind of nostalgic.
I think it looks like modern e30 m3 with some e36 m3 cues, love it.. only thing I don't like is the Weight, also wish it had analog gauges, and the rear end. They could of fine tuned sculpted the rear end little better.. cant have it all I guess 🤷

The front is very similar to e36 M3 design language if you look at them side by side. I like the front. It’s the rear bumper corner bulges that are not pretty.
i currently drive an F87 M2 Comp, and i like the G87, do I think it looks better than the F87, no, do i think they could have designed the car better? yes, but do i hate the design? no i actually like it. and the car is going to perform, the only thing is i wish they offered more colors.
I cannot image how furious those BMW engineers are - you spend so much time improving the drive, the handling, the power, and then the design team put a big pile of shit on top of your work

I own the F22 M240i and tbh I'm pretty much wanted a new performance BMW but I hate their new design. I don't like the new G80 M3 grille. Not willing to spent 90k plus and also mod a new grille. The new M240i is horrid. And this new M2 takes the cake. I only currently like the design of X3M, M5, and M340i. We can all agree nobody can question their performance but their designs as of late have no direction or identity. All over the place.

The rear tires need to be wider to compliment the rear wide body arches that would make the rear look way better the tires look to skinny on the back !!! The front is to boxy, the bottom intakes are just a square and the grill looks terrible in my opinion, I have a 2012 E92 M-Sport in Space Gray Metalic and I think that generation and the E46 are the best looking cars that BMW made !!!!
The M2 on the right looks like it’s pushing the envelope ✉️ on design. Whereas the M2 on the left looks like it wants to take a seat back. It likes a man brings you to his house and asks you which of his two daughters you want to marry?

Just like any new car that improves upon a previous generation people will say they don't like it - but this car has been immensely upgraded from previous gen cars. Everyone will come around, they ALWAYS do.
No issues with the car looks great, not a fan of the dash but as we move to EVs cars are just going to look futuristic and we will look back at this car a think why can’t they build cars like that anymore
Bro I’ve been saying from the time they released M2 that the rear end, taillight design is all over the place lol. But I agree, BMW design is going downhill. It all started from the 4 series with the massive front grill. Only cars that still seem respectable are the 3, 5, and 7 series.
I just don't under stand why you would get this over an m4 other than the fact that it is cheaper...because its only a little bit shorter but weighs damn near the same as an m4 so there's no weight savings so its probably going to feel almost the same when not at the limit. The interior is going to also have a nicer interior as well because you are talking about a 2 series vs 4 series at the end of the day. I'll stick with my F90 M5
People hated the new m3 and m4 now people like them they are fickle, the people don’t know what they want bmw makes a car and the masses will like it, I bought a car I thought was good looking the car I couldn’t get out my mind it doesn’t happen often to me but I won’t be changing since I buy with my heart and eyes not stats, this won’t matter to most they buy on pcp and trade it in for the next best thing 😂
I like it looks a modern day E30 with the arches on steroids you can’t please everyone the XM is hideous and the Sevens front end is very fussy but BMW is trying to be different this happened with Chris Bangle with the E60 5 series now everyone loves them same with the seven series of the same time as I have said there are always going to be BMW haters .

it's great - it's lower and wider so it will look mean. 460 hp!!! looks modern, up to date. Not saying the previous one is ugly, but it belongs to another era.

Bro I’ve been saying from the time they released M2 that the rear end, taillight design is all over the place lol. But I agree, BMW design is going downhill. It all started from the 4 series with the massive front grill. Only cars that still seem respectable are the 3, 5, and 7 series.

I just don't under stand why you would get this over an m4 other than the fact that it is cheaper...because its only a little bit shorter but weighs damn near the same as an m4 so there's no weight savings so its probably going to feel almost the same when not at the limit. The interior is going to also have a nicer interior as well because you are talking about a 2 series vs 4 series at the end of the day. I'll stick with my F90 M5

People hated the new m3 and m4 now people like them they are fickle, the people don’t know what they want bmw makes a car and the masses will like it, I bought a car I thought was good looking the car I couldn’t get out my mind it doesn’t happen often to me but I won’t be changing since I buy with my heart and eyes not stats, this won’t matter to most they buy on pcp and trade it in for the next best thing 😂

I like it looks a modern day E30 with the arches on steroids you can’t please everyone the XM is hideous and the Sevens front end is very fussy but BMW is trying to be different this happened with Chris Bangle with the E60 5 series now everyone loves them same with the seven series of the same time as I have said there are always going to be BMW haters .

It’s Sad to see BMW going In the direction they are. So much classic heritage they have built on old simple designs with it saying M in just few spots. Now it’s says M on everything where ever you look. No wonder the value’s on the real M cars is sky rocketing.

It needs to go on a drastic diet. The weight is ridiculous. Can you imagine what this car would be like if it weighed 3,200 pounds? Let's just hope the steering is excellent, but I doubt it. Also, the color choice is very poor.

Agree, BMW has fallen off the design wagon YET AGAIN. The front and back end of the G87 are fcuking horrible looking. I also dislike the dashboard. It looks like someone did a DIY retrofit. Seriously BMW, WTF?!? I also hate the bucktooth grills on the G8x 3 and 4 series. The front ends on these cars are ugly. Uhhhggg.
