Still no shutter angle. This is such a basic, fundamental feature. It’s very odd to see/hear you guys talk about these “pro level cinema features” on the cameras without shutter angle. It really makes no sense. Please make this happen guys
I think a shutter angle will probably come last given that these are basically hybrid cameras. It’s nice that some hybrid cameras have it such as Lumix. But those features are mainly for cinema cameras, so I really think it’s very unrealistic for us to expect a hybrid camera not to have that. It’s a good addition don’t get me wrong, but I kind of find it ridiculous that we are demanding that if you’re not shooting with a son of a camera already…
@ there are camcorders with shutter angle. A camera being hybrid is no excuse to not have it, especially when Leicas that aren’t even used for video have it. Can’t make any excuses for fuji, who has repeatedly marketed their hybrid cameras as capable for filmmaking at the production level. And given they are implementing Timecode, F-Log2 C, 14bit readout, etc… there certainly needs to be shutter angle. It’s a basic feature for filmmaking, it’s not, and should not be, exclusive to cinema cameras.
@ yes I get that but a camcorder is for shooting videos. You’re not talking about a steals camera. Not making excuse for them it just doesn’t make sense given that their market was to provide a hybrid camera. I would be upset if it was just a videography camera like the FX3 that didn’t have shutter angle for years and then announced an update, but you weren’t getting until six months later that’s a frustrating thing because that is just a videography cinema camera. That’s what they marketed as Fuji didn’t market this as a cinema camera. It has cinema quality to shoot Amazing video. But nonetheless, it’s a hybrid camera. Having shutter angle in a hybrid camera is a very new thing still. Sony barely did it. Cannon hasn’t done it Nikon hasn’t done it… Putting the pressure on them without any real criticism is just unrealistic for this type of camera… A great bonus, but I say just buy the camera as what they market it for not for what you wanted it to be
@ there isn’t much of a difference between the XH2S & FX3 despite what they’re marketed as. Both are hybrid cameras at the end of the day. The FX3 and 30 are taking photos as nice as my XH2s does. What “real criticism” is there to give to them as they talk about “pro features” for video? I don’t need to do anything else besides request it. They’ve been in the business for long enough to know why someone would want it. They’ve been adding features that people been asking for (which goes beyond what the camera was initially meant to be) for years now. Asking for shutter angle is a very simple request that many others are asking for. Having this discussion is just silly considering the fact that they literally just released a cinema gamut and TC support for a device you’ll never see outside of a film set. The thing has a 14bit readout which was also only in cinema cameras before fuji implemented. What they are intending with this camera couldn’t be more obvious. So, I’ll take your opinion for what it is (an opinion) and keep on with my day.
@ if you see the FX3 as a hybrid camera. Then from that standpoint you right. But I’ve never seen anybody shoot a professional wedding photos with an Fx3. I don’t think it’s a hybrid camera. It doesn’t have hybrid features. It just takes one single photo per click. That’s not hybrid features. That’s more for documentation while shooting the video for example that’s what I do for my documentaries when I own the fx3. But if that’s your perspective of the camera, then by all means you’re right. I just would never see it that way. Good conversation! Appreciate it!
Is Diety and Tentacle Sync going to work? It's way more beneficial for these fujifilm devices to work with prosumer kit like the aforementioned. I get that Ambient is on big, professional sets, but they aren't using Fujifilm in these cases. Would love an update on this. Look at how Sony is using these features and dominating the event and docu work.
Super ridiculous man when not all the camera companies have that especially when you’re expecting it out of a hybrid camera. Go buy a cinema camera just like I did.
@ It’s true, that’s the perfect way to put it. This firmware is def a step in the right direction, but they’re constantly making questionable decisions. For example, that GFX Eterna cine camera they’re working on worries me. They’re vastly overestimating filmmakers desire for a medium format sensor and vastly underestimating how little a filmmaker is going to want to deal with the caveats of shooting on a rehoused GFX 100 II. “Oh yeah sure, we can shoot 8k buuuut I wouldn’t recommend it bc it crops in to super35 and rolling shutter is terrible”. I give the GFX 100 II a pass because it shoots phenomenal photos alongside decent video, but this is not the right sensor or ADC for a dedicated cinema camera. I probably sound like the biggest hater right now, but I actually love Fuji and want them to succeed. They need a leadership change and a better software team
@ man same! I’ve been shooting Fuji since the start. It’s hard for me to leave. I keep cheering for them and they keep making moves that could make them more and more appealing but they always miss the mark. The intention seems to be there, but the experience and actual field knowledge seems to be lacking
Dear Michael, thanks a lot for going a little bit more into detail about the new features of the latest firmware update. Please be aware that many of us film makers were so much hoping for something very basic as 'external SSD recording' also for the X-H2s. I fully understand that there is an internal ranking when it comes to the importance of improvements (besides bug fixes). But providing basic functionalities should come before further improvements. Do you agree?
External SSD recording isn’t really a pro feature. My Red doesn’t do it, Arri doesn’t do it. Internal is more pro because it’s more reliable. I don’t see the desire when CFexpress is cheap and reliable
External ssd recording is not basic and it isnt something that can just be patched. Thats not how it works. If you want SSD recording get another camera because there is no way to do it via firmware.
@@oskrrrrt2198 I am not so sure. As the processor (and co-processor) architecture is extremely similar when you look at the GFX 100 II (which does offer this feature, amongst other nice film making tools like false color, anamorphic de-squeeze, to name just two) and the X-H2s, the video related features should be / could be very similar / the same for those two model in the FUJIFILM lineup.
So you made USB timecode work with devices that cost as much as your cameras... the kind your customers would invest in if they could afford RED or Arri cameras. You should cover the long list of minor quality of life features your customers requested 4 years ago, like shutter angle, or variable frame rates. Stop being weird, Fuji.
Also, who thought it was a good idea to limit usbc TC compatibility to ambient devices? Not only is that contrary to what the FW release notes suggest, but it’s also a horrible decision. This is a prosumer camera, not a high end cinema camera. I’m not spending 25% of the cost of my camera on a TC device. The fact that you guys think that is a worthy decision, but shutter angle isn’t, is absurd. There is zero consideration for your user base. No communication whatsoever. No asking us which TC devices we are actually using or would use, so that you can put out new features that would actually be used by XH2s shooters. Now we have to sit back and wait months for another firmware update. A waste of time and energy, honestly. I feel like your users want you to succeed more than you do. You have so many examples of what to do in what other camera companies are doing and you still make silly choices like this. It’s these kind of decisions that contribute to why you are far behind sony/canon/nikon. Do better and consult your actual user base in the future. And your actual users please, not your sponsored content creators.
No Tentacle or Diety support...it's like they were trying to shoot themselves in the foot by supporting the only system that costs more than their cameras.

Tried Rode Wireless Go Pro TC Mode 5 last night. Did not work :(
You had a lot more grace with your feedback than me lol, well said
@ haha you went off! All facts tho bro
Please add a shutter angle feature. Get with the times Fuji!

Shutter angle, waveform, and a way more usable dynamic IBIS for video would be much appreciated in your next series of cameras
can GFX100ii be timecode jammed with Tentacle & Deity devices?
any links for official documentation for LOGC indicating IRE values,,what is the recommended CST in Resolve?
Yes !!! All CST and Aces explanation. The goal is to used the official LUT.
Tentacle Sync please! I’ve been working in film for 12 years and only seen ambient devices on a handful of sets
