    Maybe in the season ending interview dufus heard some things from the players that they were unhappy about, some things that would prove problematic for him as a GM and he decided to BAIL rather than have his name used in a bad light, making a NEW job much harder to get.

    Can you be picture being really happy with everything Dubas does but the fact he builds a soft team? Then he wants to be buddy-buddy with the rest of the players, guys he should be willing to cut their throats in negotiations? Then he cries about how hard the season was on him? Might be the straw that broke the camel's back.

      I don't think that's fair or even representative of what actually happened. You're way oversimplifying this and are also taking people out of the conversation who have more responsibility than Dubas ever did. Shanahan and MLSE are vastly more responsible here and all people can do is complain about Dubas. I'm sorry to say, but you've been suckered into their narrative. They did a masterful job at directing the blame away from themselves and you and all the people that upvoted your post got baited perfectly.

      @@Katie-hb8iq I really didn't talk in absolutes. I can't be pro-Dubas or Shanny because the truth hasn't come out. Really just trying to share a possible narrative where Dubas could of easily put himself on the chopping block. What if players were walking all over him. What deals were 'interference'? If it was Shanny that made the Leafs acquire Acciari, McCabe, and Schenn instead of Dubas, would have no hope for Kyle. There's a lot of Dubas 'walked on water', when all it could of been is him on thin ice.

    Tkachuk was undisciplined with the Flames...costing them at the een of seasons and in the playoffs. It is like a switch has been turned on ,in his head, and he plays for keeps now.

    The era of smothering players with huge contracts for having accomplished nothing near the goal yet... What an upside-down management style. I wonder if it will ever get back to the time when players are REWARDED for their actions, and NOT their "potential"? For that matter, it seems the era of TEAMS has vanished as well; few players want to win as a team - they want themselves to "win" that contract, and to hell with the rest of the team. There is no "team"' there is no hunt for a Stanley Cup anymore; there's only looking out for #1, MY payday, and if I happen to get lucky and attach myself to a club that wins it all? BONUS! (NOT priority). We live in the age of ENTITLEMENT.

    Why does the GM catch all of the sh*t when it’s the coaches who pull the strings and implement strategy? It’s o.k if the Core 4 plays a little softer as long as lines 2, 3 and 4 show up and contribute. Depth. Not many teams have it. Besides, good friggin’ luck trying to move any of the Core 4, especially if the whole league knows you’re antsy to make a major move. You say you want grit? Good luck finding it! Ain’t much around.

      Tom Wilson can probably be had but he’s held together with duct tape and self-tapping screws. And The Caps would want a lot because they will be starting a rebuild.

    Turning point of Panther season...
    "I'm a little disappointed in the Panthers," Keith Tkachuk told TSN 1050 on Wednesday morning ahead of Florida's 3-2 overtime victory against the Toronto Maple Leafs. "They're a soft team and they're getting everything they deserve right now." 3/29/23

    Here is what happened. There was a deal on the table. Dubas knew he was basically going to get re-signed since the trade deadline (when Shanny wanted to renew his contract). Dubas said he didn't want any distractions and wanted the playoffs to end. They eventually ended and Dubas wanted to speak to the media, which Shanny advised against. Dubas then mentions he's not sure if he wants to come back and used the family card. This was most likely all an effort to now demand more than what was initially agreed upon ($4M/year). A few days go by and Dubas tells Shanny he is good to go and that his agent will call him. His agent does call, but then asks for $6-$7M/year, 5 years and full autonomy with transactions. That was a drastic difference from the framework that was already discussed and essentially agreed upon. The "I'm not sure if I want to come back" was the first red flag. You need someone who is all in, especially this far in and when so many big decisions in a short period of time need to be made. Shanny then likely felt betrayed by the one guy he's gone to bat for when everyone was saying to get rid of him. After the call from the agent, it was over. Now lets fix this. A mistake was made....so what....it happens all the time... Did his agent create this mess? Maybe....but how about taking a different look at the situation.
    A mistake was made here. Was it Kyle Dubas agent, Kyle, Shanny? Dubas is someone I’ve always enjoyed listening to. He’s smart, articulate and often a lot more open than many of his more experienced colleagues. One of the brightest minds in the game. You will not find another like him right now. He cannot be replaced. I do not see anyone coming in and doing better. It is not too late to fix this mistake. The leafs have made the playoffs every year under his watch. The team has one of the best records in the league over the last 5 years. It just knocked off Tamp Bay this year and made it to the second round for the first time in over 20 years, Glass half full here. This team is good and getting better yearly. Fix this mess , you still have a choice....mistakes get made...learn from it......fix it. Win or learn.....Meet guys, come on, do what's best for the team right now. Kyle and Keefe have done a good job here..... This can be resolved differently......let the egos go.....Shanny, Kyle....reach out.....sit down...talk....w had a really good thing going here.....wake up!!!

    I still can't get over hiring the guy that kept Darryl Sutter on as coach and traded away Tkachuk to Florida so they can win a Stanley Cup. That's the front runner? Seriously? You have 100's of billions of dollars and that's the guy you're considering?!? No wonder this team is so terrible in the playoffs. Management is awful. You can hate Dubas all you want and use him as the scapegoat, but the reality is that the guys at the top are the real sources to blame.

    • @pjpredhomme7699
      @pjpredhomme7699 Год назад +3

      You have some pretty misguided information - Treliving quit Calgary because they would not let him fire Darryl Sutter . He didn't choose to trade Tkachuk - he told him trade me or I will play out my contract and you will get nothing - so that is not a lot of leverage to make a deal - given that he did alright . I am not a fan of Treliving - I just don't like people to misrepresent reality. I thought Dubas was a promising GM he made plenty of mistakes but he did good things too, the way he used his family in the media hoping to score leverage was disgusting -not many people are going to respect that - hope he learns from that in the future.
