    I remember seeing Goldrush play at the 'Prospect Hill' hotel in Kew. I was amazed seeing that Tommy mainly played drums throughout the set. Great gig. GAZ (Melbourne/Australia)

    In the late seventies they had a regular gig at The Governor’s Pleasure, The Rocks, Sydney. I had the pleasure to share a few beers with them. They were a great live band, great weekends and great memories. RIP Phil

    You could write a thesis on this band/album. .
    Agree with another poster re guitar solo on Desert Wind. .it's my favorite solo of all time. .starts off Gilmour-esque then it goes into the stratosphere...too many highlights on this album. ... i bought a musicman amp years ago from the trading post. .when i arrived to collect it, the seller was David Mare, the lead vocalist. .the band had just split and he was selling his gear. .so i became the owner of the amp he plays on this recording. .if only i still had it!

    Man!!!! Great to hear this again. Was transported back to UNSW to an O Week concert at lunch time 1981! Then to a pub in Armidale circa 84. They were a great band. Thank you for the memories- made my day- what a good gift after a fairly ordinary few days

    Just so sad the Wiz is no longer with us and this band should have been very big stars. I used to see them regularly at the Muso's Club in Cleveland Street near Central in Sydney and they just pulled this out every night. Very BIG sound as Phil liked it, always played on 11 and moved the walls. loved it. Tommy kicked the kit OK in this band..

    I put this on to disk about 15 years ago because there was no info on the album from anywhere. The ABC where it was recorded lost all the archives long ago.

    I saw these guys a couple of times; once at the old Penrith Leagues Club and then at Narara. They blew everyone away both times. Had a great chat with Mark Collins (banjo) after the gig at the Leagues Club - he was a champion bloke.

    Thanks dugbugs. I have this on vinyl but no means to play it any more. This takes me way back to the Newport Arms hotel on many a Thursday night in my youth seeing these guys live - even before Phil joined. Guy Dickerson, who Phil replaced, was an even better guitarist IMHO but was real flaky and the band sacked him.

    Really brilliant stuff. It seems strange this far down the track that they only recorded one live album. They appeared to have more than enough material to do a full studio recording. Perhaps it was just a part-time thing for them. Can't find a weakness. Phil's guitar is fantastic (would you expect less?), as is all of the stringed-instrument work. Tommy's drumming is excellent - he doesn't play anything really flash, but his melodic sense and feel is amazing. As a drummer myself, I can't really see any obvious way you could improve on his parts and perhaps that is the ultimate accolade. Really impressed by the bass player - lovely tone and beautiful playing. Simply superlative in every way - Sweet Elysse is my current fave song and love the final bars of that song and the ending. If Phil E does have the master tapes, time to give then to Gil Matthews at Aztec Records and have it re-released on CD with the full Aztec treatment!!

    • @dugsbugs1
      @dugsbugs1  6 лет назад +1

      Unfortunately no one has the master because it was lost from the ABC archives where it was recorded.
      Even the version Phil released and was selling was taken from the record. and to be honest, Phil and Tommy don't even mention the band these days because they were all young and not famous at the time.
      This version was put on CD about 20 years ago when CD burning was in it's infantsy with windows 97 so now the process could do a good job on a good record. What you are hearing on the record is the real deal because at the time , it was recorded direct to disk.

    Thanks for putting this up DugBugs1 - this was the best value album in my collection, in terms of how many times I played it right through!! Every track has its own appeal. And it was good value for the band as well. I spoke to Phil Emamnuel a few years after it was released. He said it only cost them a few hours of studio time (about $600, from memory) to mix this album because it was recorded at no cost to the band.

    Thanks for posting this. I have had this on vinyl since the '80s also with no way of playing. One of my favourite live albums of all time. Phil's solo on Desert Wind is sublime - full of power and emotion. Awesome track .
    I believe Tommy is selling a needle drop of this on his CGP website if people would like a copy. I have always wondered what the T.F.F. initials stood for on track 4. My guess was Too F&%!cking Fast! Great playing from Phil and Spud Collins.

    I Remember going to a couple of his guitar clinics at Rock Music Bankstown in the late 70's. He did a Great Version of Sultans of Swing and Europa by Santana, and he gave around 20-30 people a mind blowing concert as well . I was one of the Lucky one's to attend them. Don't know what happened to Ken ( The Shop owner ) though. B.T.W. The clinics were for free. can't beat that...Yeah..... lol ... :-) Thanks Ken, wherever you are. :-)

    • @ianbettridge3712
      @ianbettridge3712 9 лет назад

      Snoofle Bum Phil doesn't have the master copy of the original recording. He wanted to borrow the vinyl record from me so they could re release it but the record was scratched on one side, so I loaned him a tape of the record, but that was no good either as the sound wasn't balanced right. He probably has a master copy of the vinyl record from which it was recorded.
