@Dennis Conrad Thanks for doing the maths, I was going to do it myself (glad I checked the comments first). I always work out the price per 100g/100ml when shopping, I usually check the % of fruit/veg/meat as well. That's how you find what the true value is.

These are my favourite kind of reviews, thanks Gareth! Btw, the Bramwells definitely has a bit of paprika in it and maybe a tiny bit of turmeric and cumin. It really balances the acidity.
Must say my latest 'find' and for the time being my go-to tom sauce and the bbq and brown- is from the De Luxe range from Lidl - I think it was 89p or 99p for a 280g bottle - similar in appearance to your posh brand on display. Tremendous tomato FLAVOUR. Consistency has a very slightly 'grainy' texture as though the puree has been pressed through a sieve - leaving the max amount of the tomato fruit IN the mixture. I can imagine it being made from an Italian Granny's kitchen. We also like Heinz, Daddies, Co-Op and I used to get the Adsa standard version. The rest are like coloured vinegar!
I can also recommend the cheap M&S tommy sauce! Heinz did used to do a "posh" sauce, but sadly was discontinued around 2008. I remember when I worked at ASDA HQ, it was reduced to 50p in store, so I did stock up. I will be giving the Co-op and the Sauce Shop a try too! Thanks for this Gareth, best wishes from Yorkshire!!
Hi Gareth another great saucey challenge I think it all depends on personal taste and of course pennies we like aldi bramwells brown for dave and red for me, there bramwells pickle is tasty too both Branston and piccalilli and tartar sauce and they are not really expensive,
I like the Bramwells. Never noticed the spiciness before so will look out for that now. Great content as always. Will try to catch the live stream Fri. Take care. Love from Liverpool
I like the Pudliszki Mild Tomato Ketchup 480g £1.15 (24.0p/100g) from asda polish food selection. It has just a touch of chilli which really brings out all the flavours i like in ketchup. I'll also throw in Winiary Mayonnaise Majonez 400ml £1.60 (40.0p/100ml) as my preffered mayo, it has flavour like the polish/german/dutch mayo which i like and mixed with the Pudliszki Mild Tomato Ketchup makes a great burger sauce base. Take care, God bless one and all.
You’ve sparked some nostalgia with that daddies sauce! I remember it as brown sauce tho, which I haven’t had in ages but might have a look for sum next time I’m at the shops! Remind me of the good old days haha
Yes Daddies brown sauce is No.1 in my books, tried loads of others but nothing comes close im my humble opinion, Asda sell the large one for £1.50 but B&M sell it for £1 so I always buy at least 3 each time 😊
Cheers Gareth great review mate, We have the Bramwells at home usually, Seems to be nice whatever it goes with.you commented on the spice in it , That’s funny because I know a lot of Indian takeaways use tomato sauce as an ingredient to make chicken tikka masala. The one you mentioned when you was a kid reminds me of those yellow hot dog vans years ago after the pub , Hot dog or Burger with cheese , Fried onions, and those big tomato sauce bottles, just like the sauce you had . Ps I don’t think you will need to buy any sauce for a while lol 🍅🍅🍅see you on the next one ☝️👍👍🍻🍻🍻👍👍🍻
Hi Gareth. I love this vid! My fave ketchups are Co-op and Sainsburys own brands, glad you found yours. May I suggest for the future, brown sauce, mayo. and salad cream comparisons. Thanks for going this. 😋
because we both from Cumbria we can't try waitrose but I never knew to you done this video that daddies make tomato sauce I got their brown sauce which I've eaten since I was a kid so keep up the good work and thanks for information cheers mate
What I like doing is opening up the lid and putting a small spoon full of baking soda inside the Ketchup then shaking it up and closing the lid for 2 minutes. Give it a try makes the flavour so much better.
Hi Gareth, as always yet another brilliant vid, as several times recently, you have shown that expensive is not always best, will be trying the branwells in the next couple of days on your recommendation, as i have just done with the cheapo beans and sausage that frankly, tasted no different to the Newgate in LIDL, and no different to Heinz 👍👍👍👍
spot on review, i love the coop one. keep up the good work mate, you doing great. any chance you could do a review on frozen roast potatoes and cook them in the air fryer
I like Rubies In The Rubble ketchup. It's about £2 for small 300g bottle but I don't use it often so may aswell use quality. Its made using pears instead of sugar. So more healthier. Morrisons stock it.
Hi Gareth. Thanks for another informative review. Plenty of ketchup for your chips now mate. Lol. Going by price, size of bottle and taste and of course your facial reaction, I'd say the Aldi one is the best value. I've been buying the Bramwell one for a while now and it's great. . Keep up the spot on work, see you Friday. Best wishes from Scotland.
So many out there Garath to choose from. Really surprised on your vid outcome just goes to show how useful the channel is great I stokes Spot on ! Lynda x
Cor, what a marathon! I only buy Aldi Bramwells. If not available, then Tesco Stockwells. Today Aldi had more gaps on the shelves. No squeezy mayonnaise, just jars. I was actually looking for the garlic mayonnaise you like. They didn't have it. Also no sunflower or rapeseed oil, only olive oil.
I used to be a brand snob until a few years ago and would always go for Heinz but since trying Tescos Stockwell I've switched because the difference is minimal and for the price it wins hands down, I can buy nearly 5x Stockwell for the price of 1x Heinz and I can't tell the difference unless they are side by side.
Great video as always Gareth. For me it's got to be the Aldi / bramwells. { although I must admit, I haven't tried a lot on your list, including the most expensive } all I know is the Aldi is awesome when it comes to cutting slightly burnt Asda extra special pork sausage up and dipping the pieces into the sauce, and then scooping up a bit of mashed potatoe and a tiny bit of Apple sauce { made with Bramley apples Yum Yum). When it comes to brown sauce it's always always always got to be daddies. Only problem is I don't seem to be able to source any at the moment. No pun intended of - sauce, I mean of - course 😂. See what I did there? 😂
'Pudliszki' ketchup is worth having a try, several of the supermarkets are now stocking it. Less 'sugary' than the others, with a celery/spicy/tang, depending on which one you buy. Different form ordinary red-stuff, it has more flavour.
I grew up on Heinz tomato ketchup, but having watched the "Eat well for less" programmes on the BBC I gave the Sainsbury's equivalent a go to see how it compared. I was pleasantly surprised considering it costs considerably less than the Heinz, so now I only buy the Sainsbury's. I've tried their own label brown sauce and salad cream too and now buy those exclusively.
Yeah, I haven't bought Heinz tomato ketchup for years. I do buy Heinz Curry Sauce, though. It's far better than Tesco's version for making a Currywurst German-style. The Heinz one, however, is only available at Sainsbury's near me. Get genuine (made in Germany) Bratwurst from Lidl if you've got one.
Same here I think pre own brand days we all grew up on Heinz tomato ketchup, but its not cheap at more than double the price of supermarket own brand. Personally i prefer Daddies red sauce too Heinz, and its cheaper.
@@SuperLittleTyke yeh the Lidl Bratwurst are beautiful. Like you said with Tesco curry sauce for currywurst is lovely. Like in Germany i sprinkle a bit of curry powder over the sauce as well.
@@SuperLittleTyke agree 100%. the aldi/lidl bratwursts are fantastic. I think aldi and lidl designed their ketchups for the german pallatte to go with these...german sausage has a lot more meat and slightly different seasoning.
Thanks for the vid.....you chose a tough one !! Tomato Ketchup needs GOOD tomatoes. Having done some research...the growers use sneeky ways of making tomatoes look ripe. Pick them early (green). Spray them with the gas given off by the vine to "ripen". The tomatoes look lovely and red but are far from ripe. My point here is do the buyers for the Ketchup "makers" know this or choose to ignore it? Sugar is a big issue. Basil does make tomatoes taste loads better and is cheap. Hope this helps.
If i was testing the sauces it would be all down my t shirt by the end , then id have too review some washing powders then .🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Great vid by the way , love the Friday vids .
Personally I think that Bramwells is the best for tomato sauce, but they haven't been stocking it in my local Aldi's recently and they're not selling it online either. I'm starting to think they may have discontinued it. Hope not though.
My favorite is Tesco Stockwell tomato sauce. It`s very cheap, but has a great taste. It`s like the ketchup you get at the fair ground burger van, or the old style golden egg , greasy spoon. Has a higher vinegar taste.
I rarely eat tomato sauce it makes me sweat for some reason obvs an allergy, but I have lids made by batts that tastes ok . Good video as always good prepping you'll need no sauce for a while mate lol
I really like the COOP one, but as it wasn't available I tried Sainsbury. I don't like much from Sainsbury but the sauce is really good. Its dark, thick strong & NOT sweet. So either are good to me but if you want sweet, go elsewhere are these two are not.
great review gareth, i love tomato sauce and i think heinz is the best followed by tesco homebrand, but it also depends on your budget and what u are used too 😀 love from cornwall
I love my ketchup with a cheap and cheerful vinegar taste so it's the ASDA Smartprice one for me! I also buy the Aldi one for a change and both last ages 👍👍 Can't be doing with posh sauces. Just give me bog standard ketchup! Also the Asda Smartprice Ketchup is Vegan friendly too 👍 Next up do the Brown sauce taste test Gareth? In terms of value.. the Aldi one is cheapest on that list because you get 650g. So with the cost of living crisis that's the best sauce to get on a budget.
I find it's an eternal quest finding the best ketchup! I did always buy Co Op at one stage but my local Co Op closed. I bought Bramwell's last week. Not bad but a bit thin. My main criticism is that most ketchups are too sweet and not tangy enough for me. The sweetest I ever tasted was Tiptree's. Tiptree are known for their jam and that's what it was like! Tomato jam!! So sweet even my niece (who was 3 at the time) didn't like it! My favourite ever was Branston's which used to be sold in Poundstretcher but I haven't seen for years. I'd be interested to hear if anyone's seen Branston's recently.
I used to love Branston ketchup but it was as rare as hens teeth. I think they've actually discontinued it now, so I tend to buy Bramwells. It's not quite as nice as Heinz but it's about 1/4 of the price, and I'm more of a mayo person anyway
@@PotatoPirate123 Yes, me too with the mayo! That's the other eternal quest and then I found it. Sainsbury's French style mayonnaise! Then guess what? They don't seem to sell it anymore! I even tried making my own mayo and....not worth the effort!
@@nickhirst999 if you buy Dijon mustard and mayo from Aldi (or wherever) you just need to stir in a bit of Dijon. That's all french mayo is. You can mix it together on the bread if you want to save on pots.
Love the video ! , Gotta a question where did you buy the Daddies tomato sauce from ? - as can't seem to find it where i live in South Gloucestershire.
Gareth obviously everyone loves Heinz especially my other half. She was brought up with a silver spoon 😂 your videos are slowly working in her. Keep it going. What makes me laugh when we are abroad the other half will eat anything especially if it’s of sunbathing temperatures
There sure are a lot of brands out there. Most taste roughly the same but some stand out a bit more from the crowd. I have Daddies in the cupboard and I wondered if you would comment on the vinegary flavour. You did, so I know it wasn't just me. Going by the brands you've just tasted I would probably go for the Co-op. It's not too big a bottle and is reasonably priced. Anyway, that was entertaining. Nice one Gareth 👍
This is such a brilliant review 👏I would ask you to try polish Red sauce that's the one we have turned to now it's lovely and really thick 😊 I would ask you to try it Gaz but I think you have enough to go at now for quite a while 😂
Bramwells ketchup is good, but their mayo is excellent - easily as good as Hellman's. Hoping you do a test of those too. I didn't like Asda's own mayo at all.
The ony ones i have tried is hinez and polish tomatoe sauce there both nice dont really use tomato sauce often like peace on potato scone with sauce thats all lol .thanks video.i went to morcoum when i was kid loved was brilliant 😊x
Vinegary I can't stand! The brands we usually have are Lidl & Tesco. Heinz is a brand I avoid regardless of the product, they are massively overpriced (in my opinion) but, as you say, it depends on the individual's taste and perhaps on their ability not to worry how much things cost! Good video.
Sauce Shop is my favourite one, but I'll only buy it as a treat when on offer. Good ol' Heinz for me the rest of the time, altho I buy the low sugar one. Aldi's Low sugar one is also actually comparible I think.
Hi Gareth. Here in Thailand we use ROSA Tomato ketchup. That comes in kilo bags from many shops@ less than a UK£1. We refill our Bramwells bottle, the same as our Salad cream and use it on burgers, sausage, hot dogs, pizza and chips. More good wishes to you, we tried Tesco and NO ONE RATED IT. It was thrown out. All the best Don, Phannee and the boys
Another great vid, thanks. My Wife will have nothing but Heinz ketchup....Ive tried! Will you have a look/taste of custard tarts? Tesco, Morrisons, Co-op & M & S. They are all made by Park Cakes on the same machine! All the best.....
I always bought the morrisons own brand when you grandkids were little they used to smother the food in the sauce .I now buy aldi I think the is only me who likes it I love it on a plate of chips boiled ham and egg the is nothing nicer than tomato sauce on chips and egg .my mum used to say if you've got potatoes in eggs bread and butter and cheese you get a meal with chips and egg cheese on toast is another and jacket potato and cheese on top you've got 3 meals and they don't cost alot love fran xxxx
My favourite is Stokes tomato sauce from Waitrose and also from Stokes own website. When I lived in Spain, the Mercadona own brand ketchup was as cheap as chips and much nicer than Heinz.
My favourite is Mr. Organic from Waitrose. And, Waitrose Essentials reduced salt and sugar is OK as well, and it's also a very cheap. In my opinion, if you don't want the best, but you want still a nice taste on budget, don't look further.
You need to search online for it probably get from Amazon or main supplier and I actually love it my favourite ketchup is Harrisons Tomato Ketchup It's just my oppinion but M&s one sounds nice too.
That's a lot of ketchup, Gaz! The Sauce Shop is £1.75 in Sainsbury's, £2.00 in the Co-Op and (as you said) £2.50 in Morrisons. I used to only buy Daddies, but found it changed when they started making it abroad. I always found Heinz to be too gloopy. The fact the Co-Op brand has clove in it would put me off. Biona organic is the one I'm using at the moment, only because I picked it up cheap in Poundstretcher. I would buy it again if on offer.
@@philcroxall6575 £1.50 in B&M and Iceland for 685g. I often see it in Poundstretcher too. Think Morrisons might have it still, but not sure. Brown is available in Asda, Tesco and Poundland.

great review gareth, i love tomato sauce and i think heinz is the best followed by tesco homebrand, but it also depends on your budget and what u are used too 😀 love from cornwall
Cheers Matt.
i ment tesco homebrand not stockwells in my comment
I love my ketchup with a cheap and cheerful vinegar taste so it's the ASDA Smartprice one for me! I also buy the Aldi one for a change and both last ages 👍👍
Can't be doing with posh sauces. Just give me bog standard ketchup!
Also the Asda Smartprice Ketchup is Vegan friendly too 👍
Next up do the Brown sauce taste test Gareth?
In terms of value.. the Aldi one is cheapest on that list because you get 650g. So with the cost of living crisis that's the best sauce to get on a budget.
thanks 😊
If you like tangy you’ll love the M&S one. 👍
@@racingspoon That's one I've never tried. I'll give it a go, thanks!
Love the video ! , Gotta a question where did you buy the Daddies tomato sauce from ? - as can't seem to find it where i live in South Gloucestershire.
Iceland Andy
@@BaldFoodieGuy thank you.
The Essentials Waitrose would surprise you, only 80p but tastes just like Heinz, not vinegary like the cheap stuff.
Gareth obviously everyone loves Heinz especially my other half. She was brought up with a silver spoon 😂 your videos are slowly working in her. Keep it going. What makes me laugh when we are abroad the other half will eat anything especially if it’s of sunbathing temperatures
haha yes we were all brought up on them, all the best, both
There sure are a lot of brands out there. Nice one Gareth 👍
cheers Steve yes quite liked it took me back to chips on the prom at morcambe lol
This is such a brilliant review 👏I would ask you to try polish Red sauce that's the one we have turned to now it's lovely and really thick 😊 I would ask you to try it Gaz but I think you have enough to go at now for quite a while 😂
Great suggestion!
Spot on you've got sause Gaz 😋🔝🚦😉
Thanks 👍
Oooh this looks interesting will have to watch this later
thanks 😊
Thanks for doing this. Been wondering what the best is for a while.
thanks 😊
Bramwells ketchup is good, but their mayo is excellent - easily as good as Hellman's. Hoping you do a test of those too. I didn't like Asda's own mayo at all.
Asdas own mayo is literally pva glue! Disgusting I agree
Bought some of the Bramwells Aldi garlic mayonnaise. Pretty pretty good. 👍
I get the Tesco no added sugar one. Not everyone's cup of tea, but I like it.
The ony ones i have tried is hinez and polish tomatoe sauce there both nice dont really use tomato sauce often like peace on potato scone with sauce thats all lol .thanks video.i went to morcoum when i was kid loved was brilliant 😊x
Cheers Jayde
Excellent review Gareth. I am not to keen on brown sauce, but perhaps you could do them next. 👍
Sounds good!
Vinegary I can't stand! The brands we usually have are Lidl & Tesco. Heinz is a brand I avoid regardless of the product, they are massively overpriced (in my opinion) but, as you say, it depends on the individual's taste and perhaps on their ability not to worry how much things cost! Good video.
Cheers
Cheers Donald
Another great vid, thanks. My Wife will have nothing but Heinz ketchup....Ive tried! Will you have a look/taste of custard tarts? Tesco, Morrisons, Co-op & M & S. They are all made by Park Cakes on the same machine! All the best.....
Great suggestion! thanks Michael.
I always get Aldi red sauce, i think its better than heinz imo.
Ha - Gareth, go on 'the sauce' much? 🤣 great review, I like ketchup so I'll give that co op brand a go ! 👍
Bramwells in my favorite at the mo, it is slightly spicy and really tangy.
Wife & I love your videos!
Have you tried Aldi's Salmon Wellington (salmon en croute)? In our opinion the best ready meal ever!
cheers will look at that one
Hammond Chop Brown Sauce is different and nice. Last seen Morrisons
I've got to try ketchup I haven't been a fan yet
Blimey fella..with all the different weights this is way too complicated for me..makes my head ache..😆🤭..great vlogs
Price per gram would be helpful, keep up the good work and thanks for the information 👍👍👍👍
Per gram, lol
In Ireland we have the Chef brand ketchup and Brown sauce it's expensive but very good
My favourite is Stokes tomato sauce from Waitrose and also from Stokes own website. When I lived in Spain, the Mercadona own brand ketchup was as cheap as chips and much nicer than Heinz.
I’ve tried some of these but I always go back to Heinz but thanks for the review 🤗
My favourite is Mr. Organic
from Waitrose.
And, Waitrose Essentials reduced salt and sugar is OK as well,
and it's also a very cheap.
In my opinion,
if you don't want the best,
but you want still a nice taste on budget, don't look further.
You need to search online for it probably get from Amazon or main supplier and I actually love it my favourite ketchup is Harrisons Tomato Ketchup It's just my oppinion but M&s one sounds nice too.
not had that one Kristen.
Personal preference at the end of t’day, I am by no means a big brand snob but do always seem to come back to Heinz red and HP brown.
Yep
That's a lot of ketchup, Gaz!
The Sauce Shop is £1.75 in Sainsbury's, £2.00 in the Co-Op and (as you said) £2.50 in Morrisons.
I used to only buy Daddies, but found it changed when they started making it abroad.
I always found Heinz to be too gloopy.
The fact the Co-Op brand has clove in it would put me off.
Biona organic is the one I'm using at the moment, only because I picked it up cheap in Poundstretcher. I would buy it again if on offer.
cheers pal, good information
Daddies Tomato was my choice, sadly becoming difficult to find and not tasting as well as it used to.
@@philcroxall6575 £1.50 in B&M and Iceland for 685g. I often see it in Poundstretcher too. Think Morrisons might have it still, but not sure.
Brown is available in Asda, Tesco and Poundland.
@@Val-from-Leigh Many thanks for your reply, I use Iceland but never thought of looking for it there, i'm glad to see that others still like it. As a kid it was lovely in a mash potato sandwich ! Lol
Good description of those seaside/cafe plastic bottle abominations. 👍
cheers George
Thank you for the important research there....don't care about war or anything else , I just need to know what's best on my chippy tea tonight 😋
exactly
Catching up on some your old vids Gaz iam finding them all great , always been a Heinz ketchup person , but love dadies brown so about 2 months ago in icelands got a botlle of Daddies ketchup , well not impressed as you pointed out very Vin agree ,and yea took me back to wimpy bars in 70s where i got that flavour from ,just off to watch your brown sauce reviews ,hope daddies wins .
Thanks you're welcome
Heinz will always be the best. Red sauce and beans, the two things they are the best at and always will be.
Hi Gaz ,my favourite is the Aldi one, always purchase that one ,
Hope you having a brilliant day 💜
You too
