  • Uniquely respected by the European American captains of industry of the late 19th and early 20th century, as well as the African American intellectuals of the period, Lewis Latimer's inspiring story is an important addition to today's conversations about how our society can progress to the point in which everyone is free to reach for their greatest potential. During this year’s movements for racial equality in the United States, Steve Mitnick was inspired to research the story of this founding father of our industry, who is often overlooked and forgotten because of his race. Mitnick’s latest book, Lewis Latimer: The First Hidden Figure, chronicles Latimer’s involvement in the development of several technologies that gave way to both our telecommunications and energy industries. In this virtual conversation, Mitnick speaks to Latimer’s important contributions and how we can continue to grow the industry's diversity today and in the future.
Speakers: Steve Mitnick, Editor-in-Chief of Public Utilities Fortnightly and President of Lines Up, Inc.; and Dr. Lawrence Jones, Vice President for International Programs, Edison Electric Institute
