  • How to propagate Dracaena with 100 percent success rate isn’t for beginners. Reading any plant, shrub or tree is an art. Looking for the subtle details that signal acceptance of the process is paramount
0:00 These are two houseplants I received from a neighbor who was downsizing their collection; Dracaena Massangeana and Dracaena Fragrans “Janet Craig”

0:37 Beginning the bonsai transition with a deep pruning. The majority of the leaves need to come off before removing the trunks. This will help to conserve water in the plants while it is without roots
1:56 Hard pruning the trunks as low as possible to get the most out of the stock. This will set the tree up for future taper!
2:20 Which shears are strong enough..? The first tool is a concave cutter, second is a broad shear. The utility shears were the only tool able to cut through the hardened stock. Bipass pruner would also work. Additionally a saw goes through everything.
3:03 Four weeks later-The tree is sending out new shoots
3:20 Three new shoots per truck. This will make for a great future tree.
3:39 After two weeks in water the tree tops have grown some new roots.
4:00 The tiny little bumps are the nodes/terminals where new roots will grow from.
5:14 Adding the trunks to a pot with regular potting soil.
    7:06 Making small adjustments.
7:28 Close up details of the rooted and potted trees.
7:46 After a two more weeks, I removed more foliage to promote new leaf growth
    8:14 Final review
