Iga's coach said match against Cornet was winnable, Iga just made bad decisions. I think she was mentally very tired and the fact that grass is her least favourite surface additionally put her in gloomy mood.

@@vojtasjedyny yeah i remember watching the match and it was nothing like the iga i saw over the past 4 months. who can blame swiatek? cornet is a good player, plus coming off a very long clay season, with the added pressure of a 37 long winning streak it was just a shame to see it snapped so easily.

As Iga stan I have to say it was an incredible ride. She's such a joy to watch.
0:19 Dasha's third loss against Iga in 2022 (1st at AO, 2nd in Dubai). She's clearly salty and I don't blame her at all. RIght now she probably accepts the fact she's becoming Iga's pigeon.
0:32 Very important match against Saba, sweet revenge for YEC '21, and big boost of self-confidence. Aryna later said she was surprised by Świątek's aggressive style.
0:42 Everyone thought Iga is Maria's pigeon - Iga probably thought so too, but fortunately she defeated her nemesis and cried afterwards tears of joy.
== Qatar Open was a major breakthrough. It showed that hiring Wiktorowski was a brilliant idea. New tactics, proper attitude and patience skyrocketed Iga into another league, unavailable for the rest of the tour.
1:13 Start in Indian Wells was tough. Three 3-setters in a row. Iga needed a lot of time to adjust to these conditions.
2:20 Second win vs. Sakkari. Iga showed Doha wasn't just a happy accident. Match was ugly (mainly because of wind), but victory was a decisive one.
== Splendid tournament, but road to success was pretty tough despite slow surface which theoretically suits Iga perfectly,
3:07 Iga is a terrible match-up for Coco. Gauff is her pigeon now (H2H: 0:5).
== Miami Open was like a huge parade of young queen returning from long and successful war. And that tasty bagel for Osaka which perfectly summed up Sunshine Double.
4:33 Iga's longest hug this year. 🤣 They know each other from junior days.
4:42 Eva was impressed af, applauding winners very often. She later said Iga is a great inspiration for her.
4:58 t's a rivalry that hasn't really taken off. You could tell there's some tension between both ladies. Iga clearly wanted to show Emma who rules _on court_ . Funnily enough Emma became face of Porsche soon after.
5:12 That match was tense as fuck. Samsonova was peaking and Iga played just third match on basically unknown surface (I call it quasi-clay), with very little preparation to clay season (thanks to her hard court deep runs and BJK Cup matches).
== Stuttgart was a bit weird event. Clay tournament without real clay (it's a slippery gravel put on concrete) where everyone expected Iga to win like in Paris 2020.
6:44 Second set, 4:2 - Iga's one of the best - if not the best - game during this season. She started from 0:40. Absolutely insane rallies, dropshots, stop volleys, painting lines and whatnot. Ons was throwing everything at Iga, but the kitchen sink and still wasn't able to break Iga's serve.
== Rome - overall fantastic tournament for Świątek, and her first defended title.
7:50 Surprising start of the match vs. Zheng (very talented player BTW). Poor ball, both ladies were hitting extremely hard. Iga was clearly relieved because many people smelt huge upset. Iga after 1st set: FU, I'll kill you now. 😂
8:04 Two months before this match Pegula twitted "help us all" in response to Courtney's: "and now she goes to clay". Well said.
== RG was a final touch of spectacular first half of the season. Without this win Iga definitely wouldn't feel satisfied.
Wimbledon - Iga was almost burned out, and her attitude wasn't good from the very start. After loss in Texas Wiktorowski said this year Iga lost two winnable matches: against Sabalenka in Ft. Worth, and second vs. Cornet in London. Oh well, all good things must come to an end.

I still feel like this didn't receive enough press this year. Serena's 34-match streak of 2014-15 encompassed all four slams, and here we only have one. I still feel like not enough non-tennis fans who she is . . . but they will.

The Streak of serena in 2013, azarenka 2012, henin 2006-2007 and venus 2000 all are less than iga but the quality of players IS years light better than we have today

@@thisp666 by the same logic we only hear about Navratilova and Evert during late 70s and 80s. Does it imply that the rest were so much worse? Definitely not. They too faced championship caliber players other than each other. The only difference was they were that much better. We'll have to wait to see what Iga shows in the future. But if she keeps on winning she might be that good actually.
