- Dallol is the hottest inhabited area on Earth, and also one of the most remote places on Earth. It is located in a depression, at more than 100 meters bellow sea level. Dallol has one of the most unearthly sceneries on the planet, due to its acidic hot springs, sulfur, salt, iron oxide, and other minerals, small gas geysers, and pools of acid.
Recorded February 2014 in HD with Panasonic TM900.

Usually, I can look at pictures of a place and imagine the temperature and humidity of the air, the scent of the breeze, the feeling of the ground against my bare feet, but THIS. This is unworldly, I can’t imagine any of that, it’s just so alien!

If you see it in person, you will love it more than it deserves
It's so beautiful, but I only could enjoy it for a couple of hours.. After that it becomes too hot to even breath.

@@seesee2132 Yes really, this place is covered in toxic gasses and the waters are over 200 degrees F*. Saying as there’s also 2 active volcanoes, I wouldn’t think it would be too safe..

If you guys ever wanted to see what Venus would look like without its ridiculously dense atmosfere, this is it.
The Russian Venera probes actually took some pictures from Venus surface which much later have been de-distorted and stitched by Don P. Mitchell (look it up). At least at the landing sites Venus' surface looks nothing like this. -- This incredible landscape is more like how I would imagine the surface of Jupiter's innermost Galilean moon Io to look like (except that on Io all welling up water boils in the absence of a notable atmosphere - making even very cold geysers ~0°C possible). Io is a giant volcano moon since it is so close to Jupiter and thus heavily kneaded by tidal forces. Io probably lost large parts of its water due to the volcanic heat leaving a naked sulfur silicate and whatnot core behind. Space photos of Io look colorful and toxic like a moldy pizza. All the three other outer Galilean moons have so much water left that global subsurface oceans are speculated about.

The craziest thing is about 5 miles up the road there is a village where locals live and have lived for a very long time without air con or electricity living a fairly normal life. That blew my mind just as much as the depression

A friend of mine told me about this place 3 years ago, and since then I have been dreaming to visit. Finally got there last month, traveling there is getting easier and more people travel each year.
The couple of hours at this site were amazing experience, I think the video is passing well the colors of the place in the bright sunshine.

This place is unreal, i cant get over how alien everything looks. I kind of want to toss a rock into one of the boiling acid lakes just to see how fast it dissolves

Danakil is certainly one of the most stunning places I've seen!
its so hot that the sweat evaporates almost immediately. ever been to the southwest on a hot summer day? People would die on short trail hikes in Camelback Mountains because they were unaware they were losing water and becoming dehydrated.
This place is fast becoming ocean bed. Part of the east African rift valley, a continental split is in progress. There is nothing like it in this planet!

This is a place that has not been talked about, some of them call it hell but this place is true, and even if you see it in person it is great that I am not an Ethiopian because this is a fun place

Having seen many spectacular places around the world, for me this was the most otherworldly sight. And I felt the excitement all over again while working on the video, quite happy the footage turned out good :)
skylilly1 you need a gas mask and a protective suit to go there, there is no clean water, only acid water and very toxic air. Enjoy!

Like walking on Mars. I just came back from Ethiopa et it is hard to describe what it is. It is so beautiful and the sound of the bubble and the smell... It is so unique ! Difficult to compare to something else.

nice film. this has got to be one of the most amazing places i`ve ever been to, spent 6 months working there and had as many drives to the salt dome as i could. Was amazing how the pools came and went with underground activity, one time the whole area would be filled with a blue pool of sulphuric acid then days later would look like in the film with all the coloured minerals. Fantastic....
Andy Cooper This is what I was thinking, that the place is ever changing, and unfortunately I got only a glimpse into this ever changing area. For me it is too one of the most amazing places on the planet, and when I saw the pictures from it I knew I must see it one day :)
I envy you for having the opportunity to see it multiple times, but I also understand how demanding it is :)

A true wasteland.
But very beautiful at the same time.
Nature is indifferent to the economics of capitalism. And Beauty is its own value. The comment reminded me of a friend's grandma who came from Kansas to visit him in Denver in the 1980s. The family decided to give grandma a good time. They drove up to the mountains, to the high ranges in the Rockies. "Don't you love it Grandma?" a grandson asked once they got up there. Grandma panned the serrated mountain ranges into the horizon, and gasped. "Um! Um! Um! What a waste of Land!"

The bacteria are polyextremophiles which means they are adapted to extreme acidity, extreme heat, and extreme salinity all it once. If you're going to be a rude smart ass atleast know what you're talking about first. It took me 3 minutes to disprove your entire argument using google.
