They are so nice! Aliexpress has porcelain pans that you can buy. Not as big though.

Ohhh what a wonderful collection😍 Like you, I like to collect old sets - especially professional grade watercolour, even tho I'm an amateur. You've really inspired me to tidy my art room over the weekend and feast my eyes on my old treasures ❤️ Thanks for sharing, Katrin😃🥰

Wow! As a fellow vintage art supply collector I am so jealous, but happy for you to find such treasures. I have the guitar paints in a tin and also had tubes that I put in a palette. They are so much fun to use.....They have a slight odor though. I paint with them in sketchbooks so don't have to think about LF issues. My hauls this summer were from artist estate sales of some vintage paints and newer items, vintage pastel set, Derwent drawing set, lots of charcoal and pastel paper, vintage Aquabee paper, watercolor book and about a dozen art magazines from the 1990's. I'm having a blast using them all. I'd love to see your swatches of the Gansai paints....actually all the paints. I broke down and just bought a set of 48 Gansai paints and they are fun to create with. Have a great day and will look forward to your next haul or swatching results.

Hello! I recognise the Japanese box on the left. It’s by Saiundo (or Saiun Do). The store still operates in Kyoto and sells their paints in the same ceramic pans and packaged in the same box. I’d love to visit them one day! I don’t think the paints have gone bad, they are just dry. Try using them; but do note that Japanese paints are more opaque than western watercolours.

Thats good to know! Ive been to Kyoto once but at that time I didnt know about Saiundo. I have some of their Japanese paints in ceramic round dish which I showed in the video. Their ceramic dish is the only one that has their shop name stamped.

Love the ceramic pans and the larger round pans which would make for great mixing plates. Great finds

Wow! That's so cool! Where do you find that kind of treasure? I live in Canada though... Is it all online? I'm gonna start to look for some too if it is the case. Any trick for me? By the way, if you like painting with gouache, you're gonna love the Shinan poster color even if they are not lightfast. They are pigmented and reconstitute well. Enjoy! :)

Hi! I find them online and locally. Ebay, Facebook Marketplace, online auctions, art stores (check their clearance pile!) but majority of these were from Marketplace.

That black heavyweight W&N palette is lovely, and all the Japanese colours in porcelain dishes, oblong and round are lovely too. I liked the Shinhan poster colour set a lot too, I think these were used by students studying analogue type animation before the digital stuff took over. You can set up the jars and even leave them open just keep them topped up with distilled water so they remain moist.
