    hello an important information which makes the difference is that the PR7 is not approved for two places. I have the Tenéré since July 31, 2019.I do a lot of solo off-road travel.
    I would not recommend this motorcycle for a beginner like any motorcycle of 200 KG or more (in off road). It happened to me to be sometimes in difficulty in solo but it is imperative to have an excellent physical condition and that passes. always keep in mind that during an off-road trip you have about 25 kg in addition all including tools, tent, clothes etc ... and it can very much exceed this weight if you have suitcases, aluminum and blah racks and blabla .... To come back to the T 700 Teneré as a duo, the rear seat is an object of torture. over a big 4-day 1400 km weekend, my wife thought about leaving me.
    On the way back, I ordered a conflable saddle. my marriage is saved ... phew !!!

    Exactly. I see too many riders with the big litre class bikes who are comfortable on the 200km of paved road TO the "venue", but when they get there they struggle to wrestle the beast around the technical sections. I would rather struggle slowly on the road section with a smaller bike, but then have more fun on the intended off road part of the weekend/trip.

      And after all, the average speed will always be +- the same, +15km/h or -15km/h, it isn't such big of a difference...yet offroad, 30kg is a whole new world

    Very good explanation . All bikes are adventure bikes, it's just how well a bike copes with off-road.

      @@fmacdonald3559 thats true...in a way! Too much information/planning about the journey ruins the adventure (i often sabotage my own trips to add that little extra randomness factor...to get a bit extra thrill) but knowledge about yourself and your bike i think its important.
      I mean... Unless you really dont care about anything, and thats ok too.
      But people usually care enough to spend 5883 hours and euros searching for "the perfect bike", or the perfect tire, or the perfect auxiliar light...my point is that, if you are going to care about something, care about riding skills first, then the rest comes naturally ^^

    Wow…how could I have missed this video: It’s a spot on my internal dilemma for the past few years. As a biker coming from enduro to long distance trips, no matter how good are the twists on the pavement, there is always some very tempting off road junction where I feel like riding a 220kg elephant between fragile glass. Ooh boy, I do miss my ex dual sport bike in the dirt and I am afraid the only solution would be two bikes in the garage 🧐🤔

      The big problem here is that because brands are so afraid or loosing their golden goose market (the big and expensive ADVs), they dont develop mid range dual-sports. There are only 3 that I can think of...the PR7, and the KTM690 with it's clone, the Husq 701.
      ...So 2 and a half, not even 3.
      And none of them is suited for 2 passengers...
      Thats why I am keeping my XT660R for now. Inexpensive, acceptable on road, very acceptable with passenger, and "light" enough (mine is ~190kg)...if I drop it I don't care anyway.
      For 10-15years that they don't make a bike for the "real" offrad traveller.
      Of course, you could trave with a KTM500EXC or wahtever... but come one! 859234 BIG adv options to choose from, and only a handful of dual-sports :/

      @@OFFroadOFFcourse totally agree with you! Yesterday I read an article about a guy doing 140 000 km RTW on EXC 500 but in this case, you need an iron butt and a maximum range of 200-250 km per day.
      While we are limited in Europe, you could buy brand new DR650 or XR650 in USA but can't register it in Europe due to the emissions. I am suffering this in the last month as I bought a used 2016 KLR 650 and now it seems like I have a bike that just can't be road legal in EU 😐Probably the second-gen KLR 650 would be the only bike that stays exactly in the middle between the adventure and the dual-sport category - neither the one nor the other 🌓

      @@lyubengeorgiev1751 check out the xt660r or the xt660z. They have basically all the same technology as the new KLR (thats why i cant respect the KLR, but i havent tried it..) but they are evn cheaper (used). Especially the XT R

      @@OFFroadOFFcourse I owned the xt660za and whilst I liked it a lot I recently switched to a T7: similar dry weight and handling onroad is far better like you pointed out in the vid. Offroad I have little experience with my standard T7 but my first impressions are positive with Mitas 07+. The tyre choice for an ADV like the T7 is crucial for offroad drivability.

    Hello Diogo! I enjoy all your videos but this is the first one leaving me with a feeling of wanting more (from this video)! What you're saying is absolutely true but the whole video was basically "lighter bike, more offroad - heavier bike, less offroad". It would be nice to see more what it is that makes these two (types of) bikes different and how they compare when ridden by normally skilled riders (not Pol Tarres)!

      Hey there Eric! I know, i agree 100% with you. This video was a little bit rushed (cause i am on vacation in Luanda, Angola) so unfortunately it wasnt as thought out and as complete as i usually try to.
      Lets say its a video dedicated to those asking me to compare the t7 with the PR7 (since that clearly shows they dont really know the difference/importance of heavy and lightweight) and not so much for people who already know the basics of this activity :)

    Please, someone tell to AJP to homologate the PR7 for 2 people and to put the ABS! I find so strange that in 2022 someone still thinks that abs is not necessary... In my opinion, AJP would have sold a lot more bikes. It's almost the perfect motorcycle, the joining link between dual sport and adventure bikes, only these two things are needed!

      I agree! I liked the PR7 but I'd never buy one becuase i have a girlfriend.
      mayeb they could even make 2 versions, the ABS one for 2 people and the "race" one

    Hi Diego. Congrats for you RUclips channel, it´s feels really honest. Actualy I ride GS 800 ADv and ride everyday in the city traffic. Not enjoy travell on road but we must drive a lot on paviment to reach the gravel. I´m looking some lighter than my GS. For the same price do you recomend AJP or T700 one over the other? . Just didn´t like the maintenace intervals on the AJP but i love the idea of a simple machine and like the suspension to. Gracias.

      The T7 is a great bike but its not fundamentally different than the F800...its kind of "more of the same, but better" (for offroad).
      The AJP is a totally different beast, and it will definitely open your offroad horizons. How about a KTM690 or a Husk 701?
      What about a CRF300L and keep the F800 for the long road?

      @@OFFroadOFFcourse hi. Ktm have a lot of issues with bikes. Batery problems, leak coolant, soft rims. But in Chile the mayor problem is the dealer. So Husky is worst. My longer trips are 3 ds and try to take offroad options. But i need a daily motorbike lighter than my gs and slimer 😅. Thank U for your time.

    Great content my friend and sound advice. I recently bought the H-D Pan America and there is no way I’d be comfortable taking it off road where I enjoy my lil Kawasaki KLX 300. Likewise, the KLX wouldn’t make a good mile muncher on my frequent 1000 mile trips to see Ms Werewolf.
    They both can dabble in the realms of the other to a limited extent.

      @@OFFroadOFFcourse I haven't taken it off-road yet. Parts are just starting to trickle in for the bike. Once I get the skid plate and other guards on I'll hit some fire roads and once I wear out the street tires I'll find some more adventurous trails.
      On the road, it's the most fun I've ever had on a motorcycle. The engine and suspension have been great in the twisties and any kind of pavement, nothing seems to unsettle the bike.
      I'll let you know how it goes when I'm able to take him on the dirt. I put a couple of rambling videos on YT, kinda first impressions. I've got around 3400 miles on it now.

    Great video on a Great Subject! No question the key was "rider skill" - for me, being old(ish) at 61 / physical condition could use improvement / short (5ft - 5in) and though I've been riding all my life, my off-road skill is not "stellar" either. So, I had an Africa Twin. Pretty nice on the road (though no Gold Wing lol - everything is a relative compromise! ) - terrified me off road. I couldn't see any easy way to make it more manageable. So I got a KTM 690 Enduro. It's so dramatically easier to manage (even though not a "light weight dirt bike" ) ! Now I've been doing every mod I can find to make it a better road bike. Seat / fairing / lowering link / steering damper / anti-vibe bar mounts / bigger pegs / It's getting there! Never will be "perfect", but its now possible to have a reasonably good experience in most terrains (avoiding the extremes of both of them)

      I'm going to say "yes" as it's a 2021. The one thing I can't seem to "fix" is the engine buzz through the bars at around 100kph. BRP rubber mount / stabilizer, pillow top grips... better, but not gone. Maybe I'm being too picky at this point, lol.

      @@Gbner It's so vastly lighter and more nimble than the Africa Twin, it's hard to fully describe. It's never going to be a "great" road bike though... usable / passable / capable of spending all day on the highway - yes, just not as comfy as the big Adventure bikes. Too much power? ... nah, it's completely controllable. It likes to rev (not lug way down low) but you don't need to constantly shift, it pulls for long, long time in each gear. And there's no sudden "bam" of power... smooth transition. Worth noting: the super-moto version of this is one of the most popular super-moto's ever made. On fire roads, gravel, and small twisty pavement, its' beyond fun! Having said that - I wouldn't rule out a Suzuki DRZ 400. Less power, similar size and weight, but maybe a little more smooth/gentle? Probably worth a look, and about half the price too.

    Great explanation! I have a CRF250l, only been back riding 12 months, trying to remember all the skills I’ve lost! Anyway I’ll keep the 250 for another year and then I want to get something a little bigger, I want something that is like a 50/50 bike. Any ideas what I could look at when the time comes to change? Thanks

      Hi Ian, until our pro videographer gives you a better answer, here's my 5 cents worth. Finding that 50/50 or Unicorn bike is not that easy because there will always be some compromise but here goes some examples that may come closer, based on being lighter than most other adventure bikes:
      An older and less expensive KTM640 Adv. It weighs about 158kg dry and is almost twice as powerful as the original Yamaha XT500 but, like my son who owns one, it helps to be a bike mechanic and not mind some engine vibration.
      Another possibility, with the addition of a screen and a long-range fuel tank, (if there are such options available) would be a BMW G650 X-Challenge. It only weighs about 148kg and is very torquey.
      Both my examples are thumpers, which help reduce weight but aren't going to produce the open road performance of a good twin (like a T7)
      Hope that helps man.

      Suzuki DR 650 is very reliable ,and can Cruse at 75 mph, or if you want something more Hi-Tech the latest version (2019 and up ) of the KTM 690 Enduro r also very reliable

      @@ferkuzuel Hey friend, I’ve had a go on a 690 and found it difficult to manage on slow single track, the bike feels better suited to more open terrain to me?. The DR would be a great bike but you just can’t find a nice one anymore here in the UK.

    Recently went from the Atwin to a WR250R was fine taking my A twin on mx tracks and single track but I was tired of killing myself lofting the bike up on come offs. The WR250R feels like a bicycle in comparison lol.

    I had my heart set on the AJP PR7 but apparently here in Australia they are no longer importing these bikes, I think due to the new road safety regs (This style of bike must have ABS). So I've been looking at the T7, but I'm thinking it's a bit heavy for the single trails I'm interested in tackling. I'm a good rider with about 40 years of off road experience but I'm now in my 50s and I don't want a bike I can't lift out of a boggy hole. But then there is the KTM & Husqvarna but when you do all the mod's needed it's getting quite expensive. So I've been thinking maybe get a DR650 spend $? on it and I'll have the perfect bike?

      I almost got a T7 but went for the KTM 690. Same horse power as T7 and same price as T7 but 50 kg lighter.You don’t need all the expensive mods, just a bit of protection as for any bike, and a small screen for $150.

      I always associate the DR650 to the australians, don't know why.... but probably becuase of the "Cross Training Adventure" and "Cross Training Enduro" channels. Those guys rock!...and they love their DR650s.
      If I could get my hands on a "new" DR, probably thats what I would do

      I agree with Gloss. The expensive nav tower is nice but you can definitely live without it if you don't plan to spend more than 1hour on the highway frequently. Anything below 110k/h is manageable without tower

    I got T7 and I loved it .. usually I ride alone on TET trails or similar and after some bad situations I am thinking to change from T7 to PR7 … but I am very sad to leave my T7

    Tenho uma T7 à um ano e normalmente ando pela cidade e as distâncias que percorro em autoestrada/estrada são para os trilhos. Gosto de fazer os eventos offroad e cada vez faço mais e com maior dificuldade. Comecei a pesquisar a pr7 e pensei em trocar. Gostaria de saber a tua opinião. Não faço intenções de fazer longas viagens, no maximo a península ibérica. 😀

      Vivas Alvaro! Eu tenho um review da T7 e da PR7, nao sei se ja viste?
      Gostei muito de ambas, mas sem duvida que a PR7 é uma moto muito mais engraçada e facil no offroad. A T7 consegue tudo, mas tens de ter habilidade para a usar a 100%, e uma queda pode ser cara e dolorosa...a PR7 é muito leve e intuitiva, e tanto devagar como depressa porta-se muito bem.
      Na estrada a PR7 nao é nada má, para "dual-sport", mas claro que nao tens o mesmo conforto que numa T7 ou noutra ADV bicilindrica :)

    I think the T7 comes closest to bridging the gap between the two. it’s a seriously great bike if you dont mind the weight. I constantly compare it to a 701/690.

      I see what you mean, but I really can't do that.
      701/690 feel like a modern/better DR650, TT600, KLX650, etc...
      The T7 feels like a modern/better Africa Twin 750, XTZ 750, F800GS, etc
      I LOVE the T7, I think it is a great bike, but due to its weight I still think it cannot be compared to these single-cilinders =)

      @@OFFroadOFFcourse I think i do it prob because the T7 is a small adv bike and the 701 is a big dirt bike so they start crossing paths in functionality. Your comparisons make more sense lol. I think the AT standard is getting too fancy. T7 is doing it right. but since my 150 mile test loop on forest roads on the T7....I think the 701/501 is more for me, they’re just so much lighter and thinner.

    Well, I’m actually past the Indian thing… everyone knows that! But you also said every rider should get to know themselves, so they know which arrow to choose!
    My point exactly, which means we’re exactly on the same page!
    The right arrow, for the right Indian, is the most important thing!
    Training is off course what will allow you, to get a better arrow! But a better arrow, will never make a better Indian… actually, it will make his life a hell of a lot harder!!! But that’s the secret no brand wants us to reveal…

    Eventually, we might end up putting some sense in this senseless industry!

      A malta pergunta: "Pneus bons para a africa twin?" E vem logo toda a gente disparar ideias... A intenção é boa, mas primeiro tem de se perguntar ao homem de onde ele é, se faz muito ou pouco offroad, se ta disposto a ter um pneu que dura pouco ou se quer que ele estque, etc etc... Os mitas sao bons? No geral nem por isso, mas para o que custam e para o que duram (ou costumavam durar) são uma escolha tão válida como qualquer outra. Depende do objectivo ;)

    Muito bom o video, parabéns. Completamente de acordo com as conclusões, mas discordo com essa diferenciação de adventure bikes e dual sport. Para mim são todas trail, big trail ou mini trail, seja qual for o tamanho e a potência.

      Pois exacto! Para mim "todas as motas sao adventure", mas este nao foi um video de opinião, foi um video de explicaçao dos vàrios conceitos. o mundo fala assim, vê assim, e eu estou a explicar isso :)
      Para mim, é obvio que uma "adventure" de 400cc nao vai ser tao valente na estrada como uma 1000, e que uma moto de 250kg nao vai ser tao boa na terra como uma de 130kg... Mas pronto dividiram-nas em 2 grupos (e isso até tem as suas vantagens) :)

    The best dual/Adventure COMPROMISE, I've found, is the KTM 390 Adventure (~380 pounds or 175 kg). Yes, it would be nice if it were 100 pounds lighter off-pavement and 100 pounds heavier on-pavement; but, I've not seen many heavy 'cruisers' towing trail bikes? It's sprung heavy enough such that the fork bands show ~2 inches unused travel after riding; since I don't use all the suspension travel, I can back off the damping (-32 clicks compression, -32 - -30 rebound) ... and it DOESN'T ride like Jello! Rear rebound is more sensitive; at -19 clicks the caboose doesn't follow the train; but, at -18 clicks it's fine. Off-pavement, it will tractor along at 2,000 rpm (7 mph in 1st, 10 mph in 2nd). At 72, I don't jump it like a moto-cross bike ... and I weigh ~100 kg in the 'space suit'.
    I'm dismayed at the INflexibility of motorcyles, demanding a different bike and tire for every surface and speed. C'est la vie ... and marketing!

    Ora aqui está um vídeo que me interessa muito, bem como o comparativo que fizeste da Tenere e a DR650. Venho pedir-te aconselhamento apesar de ambos sabermos que, no final, vou fazer algo completamente ao lado, se calhar. Estou a juntar dinheiro para uma dual-sport (acho eu). Não sou muito experiente em offroad e não quero grandes velocidades. Quero uma moto fiável e poucas chatices. O tal unicórnio. Tenho um grupo de amigos que anda nas enduro mais pequenas e fazem umas macacadas. Gostaria de os acompanhar mas não quero cá hard-enduros e merdas que estragam as motas e haja dinheiro. Gostaria que fosse algo mais do que um brinquedo e desse para uns passeios mais longos ou até ir ao pão. Será matriculada, pois. Orçamento: andará pelos 2000/2500, penso eu. Neste momento, a minha cabeça tem XR 400, 600 e 650, DRZ 400, Dr650, Dominator, Tenere. Tudo antigo, claro. Não dá para mais. Algum conselho que me possas dar? Grande abraço e parabéns pelos vídeos muito fixes.

      Este é um dos meus tópicos favoritos, Gabriel!
      O facto de quereres começar com uma moto leve e simples e barata ja te mete á frente de muuuuuito boa gente, que perdeu os primeiros 2 ou 3 anos deste hobbie à briga com uma moto "maior que a perna deles" :D
      Por 2000-2500 nao será muito fácil pois o mercado está caro..."as melhores das antigas" estão a custar 2500-3500eur.
      As minhas sugestões:
      DRZ400 - Não ha como enganar. É pau tara toda a obra. Só nao vais gostar dela em longas (+40km seguidos) viagens de alcatrão.
      DR650 - Um canhao muito polivalente. Nao é uma GS1200, mas já a aguentas an estrada muito melhor que a 400
      KLR650C ou a TT600RE (são as versões de arranque eléctrirco) - Belas alternativa à DR650, talve até melhores segundo muita gente
      Dominator 650 - Uma boa moto sem duvida. Arranjam-se relativamente baratas. Ouvi dizer que estava dificil arranjar peças para elas
      TTR250, DR350SE, NX250 - Mais pequenas, mas muito interessantes an minha opinião
      XT600 - Esta talvez arranjes barata. É uma dual sport do catano...humilde, nao tem tanta suspensao e leveza como a DR650/TT600, etc, mas para aprender nao precisas de mais. Fui muito feliz offroad em XT660, milhares e milhares de KM =)
      XTZ660 (as antigas, primas da XT600) - Têm melhores suspensoes que a XT60, mas pesam mais..mas também têm outro porte e conforto em estrada.
      Ha mais, claro...mas estas sao as que melhor conheço

      @@David-uc8vw vivas David! Se queres aprender offroad do zero, vais aprender muuuito mais depressa e mais barato do que na tenere. Podes comprar uma crf (ou dual-sport leve semelhante), usa-la uns meses e vende-la por pouco menos dinheiro.
      Quanto às viagens pela europa... nao sei como ê a tua vida em termos de dinheiro e tempo livre, mas "a maioria dos mortais" acaba por comprar uma moto para isto ou para aquilo mas depois 99% do tempo nao a conseguem usar para nada disso. Imagina: se uma expectativa realista é viajares 10 dias por ano, entao é muito mais pratico e economicamente viavel alugares uma moto propria para o efeito durante esse periodo do que compra-la e depois nao dar o o uso devido (a menos que seja uma moto tambem boa para o que fazes no dia a dia e com frequencia, seja la o que isso for :) )

      I really dont know! I'd say they are more on the ADV side than dual-sport, since they are close to 200kg, have a fairing (mostly useful on-road) and because they have dual-sport counterparts (the XT without the Z).
      I also consider my 2008 XT660R an adv, considering even after the weight loss it weights ~190kg with half a fuel tank and thanks to me, it has a nav tower (and because it is ridden by the biggest adventurer-wanabe in the world, myself) :p

    Except, the arrow analogy is completely wrong. As an archer , the correct arrow is vital. The wrong arrow is at best inaccurate, at worst , dangerous.
    Other than that , T7 all the way

      @@Hutchie2112 i am pretty sure I would shoot worse a 100eur arrow than you (a good archer i assume?) would shoot a 5eur one.
      Of course, if instead of a 5eur one you shoot a bent arrow made of lettuce then its a different story :Dd
      Here on the bike world all "normal" bikes are adequate. Some a bit more than others, so yeah, although the bike helps, 80% of the merit must go to the biker.
      At least thats my opinion. You may think differently and its all good as long as ti works for you :p

      @@OFFroadOFFcourse Well, I have my archery channel, and I am pretty sure I could use a bad bow with an arrow that suited it more accurately than a good bow with a badly mismatched arrow.
      So we are basically saying, folk should start with an easier, lighter weight bike, and get used to it, before progressing to an adventure or big dualsport.
      Same advice I'd give anyone taking up archery. Get a lightweight bow and matching arrows, learn the techniques properly, then upgrade, because then you will also be clearer what you prefer. :)
