- The Prime Minister of Slovakia is reportedly fighting for his life after an assassination attempt. Reports say Robert Fico, 59, the populist, pro-Russian PM of the small European nation, was rushed to a hospital after being shot in the stomach four times. Fico was elected premiere for the fourth time last year, bringing his nationalist party to power. Reports say a 71-year-old male suspect was detained, but no motive has been determined. Premier = prime minister. The prime minister is the head of government with the most power to actually change stuff, the president is the head of state and mostly has a representative function. But the president also has some power, for example to veto laws and the president is the head of military in times of war.
