Say what you will about Dai Atlas' and Sonic Bomber's _"Slag 'Em All! Let Primus Sort Out The Wreckage!"_ approach to dealing with the Decepticon problem. You can't argue with the results.
daiatlas79: It was because Transformers was falling in popularity. They weren't as big as they were when the 90's began, so Takara drew more attention to their new Transforming robot series; Yusha or the Brave Series.
Hasbro came up with the concept off Transformers based on Japanese toys. The Americans created the characters, storylines etc. and send the character designs and storyboards to Japan to be animated. Actually the American episodes DID have the lips match their movements to the dialogue. The Japanese episodes don't do that.
@iHaveOneArm Get your facts straight. Transformers was an American creation. toys were originally japanese, but the concept of Autobots, Decepticons, Cybertron, and all the characters names all came out of Hasbro, Marvel, and Sunbow. They didn't diverge until 1987 when TF animation stopped in the US but continued in Japan. Even "Headmasters" still emulated the style and animation of the US series.
True. Actually, The first G1 anime series also have Japanese people participate in making them. So basically, I will say Transformers belong to both the USA and Japan. And well, I guess that is due to Japan is the country that starts robot anime history By Astro Boy Atom, and Mazinger Z.
I would like to see the Japanese Transformers: Zone OVA episode come out on DVD or Blu-ray one day. This may or may never happen but, I would like to see the Japanese Transformers: Zone OVA episode come out on DVD or Blu-ray. I wish that the Japanese people would change their minds and release the Transformers: Zone OVA episode to the United States. I have seen the Transformers: Zone OVA episode many times but, I did not have my own copy of this episode. I wish that would release this with English Subtitles.
There was rumoured to be at 4 more Zone episodes animated or at least storyboarded. But we'll never know. They could be in a film vault in Tokyo somewhere. Toei are extremely cagey when releasing their material outside of Japan. The Zone story was continued in magazine form, which was mostly text with a few illustrations.
I came here to research the character a bit after purchasing Fans Projects version from Big Bad Toy Store. Fun clip, though I know less Japanese continuity than North American. To add a little to the debate about which is better...Japanese or N.A. Being that the origins of the transformers was in Japan, I see more depth in the storyline. Since their popularity in Japan, for the most part, never faded, the need for that depth made the storyline involved enough for even adults to enjoy. Hasbro on the other hand, seemed to mainly aim their concerns on toy sales, and their child audiences. Meaning as kids grew up, the lack of depth behind the characters became too cookie cutter to keep up interest. And this is coming from a admitted N.A G 1er. But...it's what I grew up on, and grew to love...even now. Between both though, they are wonderful contrasts to culture, style and taste. I'm pretty sure any open minded, in depth fan of transformers, will see all continuities are, for the lack of better words...more than meets the eye. Till all are one.
One thing that's notable about the Japanese continuity is that it didn't really come into its own until Masterforce. All of the exclusive content prior to Masterforce was tied directly to the Japanese broadcast of Seasons 1-3 of the American G1 cartoon. With Masterforce, Takara briefly severed most of the ties with Hasbro's version, and revamped the brand for the Japanese market. Gone were the space adventures and most of the advanced technology from Season 3 and Headmasters, and the existence of the Cybertronians on Earth was again (for a time) known only to a handful of humans. With the release of the G1 movie in Japan, Takara did eventually re-establish some ties with Hasbro's version, bringing back space adventures and some of the old characters. Also, i think one of the big differences between the Hasbro/Sunbow version and Takara/Toei version is censorship. They could get away with a lot more swearing and animated violence in Japan, and overall they didn't have those concerned parent groups breathing down their necks to produce something they considered wholesome for children's programming.
Dai Atlas and Sonic Bomber are the only two characters written good enough in this story. Even Victory Saber does not get what he deserves here. Or maybe we should say "what they deserve", as Victory Saber is Victory Leo and Star Saber, though he is featured like a single person in this anime OVA. I mean, how could they not separate even after being wounded, and no one shouts out Victory Leo's name when they are invloved into the big explosion?
2:43 He sliced Predaking like Trunks bisected Frieza!
Combiners with capes, how much more badass can you get!
Love how they try to make a friggin' Base Mode some sort of epic power up!
I love you Dai Atlas
completely obliterated the biggest decepticon combiner ever in like 3 seconds.
I don't think ViolenJiger revived Predaking as a combiner... I suppose all his resurrected combiners were resurrected as as independent personalities.
The final piece of G1 animation by Toei. Toei Animation and Transformers 1984-1990...good times. ;)

When you gain the power of the dirt heart and you kill some of the most powerful villains in the universe in seconds
Indeed, but Takara made Brave to take Transformers in a different direction and it worked, up till the introduction of Beast Wars in the late 90's. :)
I wish Roadfire was in this too

The popularity for Transformers had died down in Japan in the 90's.
