I dont think I could have handled this song in it. The one I chose was almost more than I could get through.
I still think her character in Twin Peaks came from of the White Lodge. She sings like an angel. The way she gets emotional when singing this could be that she knew what was happening to Maddy at the time and was expressing it when singing. Or not.
Yes, Lynch is so good at giving the vibe without explaining it. It is truly reasonable that an angel from the white lodge secretly merge into humanity just to comfort them in bad times.

You will never make a record anything like Floating Into the Night. So, perhaps you should just shut up and move on to music that is more your speed, like Lady Gaga. I said this for one of the other songs from this performance, but the emotion and meaning she is wrenching out of these songs is just phenomenal. I don't care if she's missing notes or not hitting certain high notes, I have never seen more meaningful performances of these songs by her than these. The nature of these songs makes them gather more and more meaning with age. I haven't been this emotionally wrecked by a performance in quite a long time!
Syrinx ok, I agree with you on everything except Lady Gaga. Lady Gaga's music is made with passion and creativity. I love both Julee Cruise and Gaga. Gaga is a classically trained pianist and has a big range of what kind of music she can perform (flawlessly if I may add).
There's no question that Gaga is highly talented. The question I have is in terms of the musical/artistic quality of what she chooses to use that talent to produce. Christgau called one of the records something like "well-crafted pop machines". That was pretty accurate. They were very well-crafted and effective... machines. The music of hers that I've heard, several singles, were catchy but hollow. They sounded like commercialism. Similarly, Whitney Houston was a highly talented singer who chose to make banal commercially-successful music.
Syrinx I disagree with you about artistic quality of her music. I feel that it is some of the most artistic pop music being created today. I think it all comes down to taste and what sounds good to you. I feel the messages and inspiration behind her work are a reflection of the world at this moment. I think her pop music may not be as deep or emotional as music like this, but it does not mean it isn't good. Twin Peaks is about loss, love, evil, fear, and the human experience. That is the essence of Lady Gaga's current music as well.

Then I watched it again at 19 years old on VHS and now at 32on DVD. I just love the 4:3, 35mm film feeling.

In all honesty, Ms. Cruise's voice and the music of Angelo Badalamenti are an integral part of the original program Twin Peaks. Whenever I watched the airings of the show, I would send the audio signal through the VCR (remember those?) and then through the main amplifier and speakers in my stereo system, and crank up the volume. There was such a mysterious, nostalgic and even heart rendering sadness at times, such as when the mother of the murdered teen age girl would sob in anguish for her daughter.
