    I love how these videos show old faucets are so clean and easy to replace where in reality this shit is rusted and the cartridge is even melted to the tube.

    Thank you! I saw so many videos, no one was explaining about how to put the new cartridge. That is where I was having definitely. That trick to screw the red/blue part to the cartridge before installing did the trick. Thank you again for showing that.
    Cheers!👍

    Your video was perfect. The hard parts were getting the new cartridge out of the plastic packaging and re-seating the handles to turn off and on correctly. I'm 75 and was able to DIY! Thank you.

    I think I can even do this myself after watching your video - though I am holding my breath about the plastic parts and their condition after 15 years. Appreciated the commenter who noted this and the 'original owner' lifetime replacement fix from Moen.

    Thank you for this video. I viewed many and most of them lacked some detail or the other. Overall I think this was the best video walkthrough to replace these cartridges. It made my job very straightforward and easy.

    This was great. Moen actually has a lifetime warranty. Probably just to the original owner but I don't know. I called them with the model, explained the problem and they sent me the handles, stem and the extraction tool and they paid shipping (3 packages) which was nice. The ONLY downside was that their on-line help video is for the single unit model and I have the split handle unit so I was REALLY happy to find your video. Thank.

      When putting the cartridge and the packing nut back in always apply liberally plumbers grease on the cartridge and the gray nut that holds the stem down if you use plumbing grease you’ll never have an issue when it’s time to go back to replace it again

      @@mariopiazzolla9105 I agree with the application of a lubricant, but it should NOT be plumber's grease on a cartridge but SHOULD be silicone grease as petroleum based greases will deteriorate the rubber o-rings of the cartridge.

    Thank you very much for creating this video! It was a big help in preparing me for replacing my cartridge, as the directions and videos Moen made available left significant gaps. I do have to note that Moen Customer Service was great in sending me for free all the replacement parts and not just the cartridge itself. I was agonizing over taking this on, but after watching this several times, I did get through it. I know from past experiences that getting old, corroded parts out can be the most difficult part, and was worried about pulling the cartridge out after the retainer ring was unscrewed. But it ended up not being that difficult after all. Another thing I was concerned about, that I didn't see or hear in this video is if the new cartridge had to be placed back into the hole in a specific position prior to the white plastic retainer ring being screwed back down on the cartridge. Thanks again for taking time to record this!

    Very glad that I found your video before undertaking this task. Thanks to your step-by-step instructions everything went smoothly. The only issue that I encountered was that the lower plastic piece that was to be screwed down onto the cartridge did not properly seat (go all the way down) until I rotated the stem on top of the new cartridge. Everything worked fine when I turned the water back on. Thanks ! Well done.

    One very helpful thing you showed was reassembling the cartridge and plastic "stem engaging" piece is better done BEFORE slipping the assembled unit back into the brass. Otherwise, for me, the unit comes apart when you turn on the water, and no other videos pointed this out. Thanks much.

    There is a notch you have to line up with the top of the stem. Use the grease on the metal threads. So it is easy to take off again.

    Anyone know what will happen if you can't get that plastic sleeve screwed in all the way. I have it screwed in somewhat but the inside threads are stripped so I can't get it to go in any further. Will that an issue or create a leak?

    Good video in general...HOWEVER....
    ...the cartridge (almost any cartridge) rarely just slides out with just a tug unless you're talking about a cartridge that is recently installed and removed already (like for making a video, etc....lol). If that cartridge has been there for more than a few years, then it's most likely really, really stuck due to mineral deposits, corrosion etc. The challenge is figuring out how to break the deposit and corrosion bond and pull it out without breaking it off inside the valve body.
    They have t-shaped cartridge pullers that I've used with a bathroom tub/shower faucet which was a little easier since you're pulling out from the wall, but with this Moen 1224 cartridge in kitchen and bathroom sinks you're pulling UP not out, with less leverage. The puller I have for the Moen bathroom cartridges does not work for the Moen kitchen sink cartridge. I'm looking around to see if there is a cartridge puller for a Moen 1224 cartridge - not sure yet. Anyway, in most cases, that's going to be your biggest challenge - removing a very stuck cartridge. I have seen a couple videos on that using vice grips on the cartridge stem, and a long solid screwdriver going under the vice grips, and on to a block of wood as a fulcrum and then lifting up to pull out the cartridge to pull it out.
    I'm not knocking your video in general though, good job.

    Remove screw when in place and screw a long screw for ease of removal. Also when installing, you must align the notch with cut out on Bottom

    Same problem here - engineered to fail - Instead of playing along to buy the overpriced part kit. I just replaced the entire faucet - you can get kits online to fix these issues which are pricey. The failure point is the plastic - even if you find a replacement part and buy the special removal to get the plastic spacer out from on top of a leaky cartridge. it is difficult to salvage the plastic spacer because it’s brittle and the time involved to find the part, replace the part, have them ship part and figure this all out with customer service is better spent (time =money) just replacing it. IMO. Good luck - the plumber I had over wouldn’t touch it, too much time involved. This type of mfg. is ridiculous a 100 year faucet with a five year plastic valve is just a Moen annuity.

    You have to shut off water to both faucets before replacing the cartridge. Otherwise, water will flow into the hoses beneath the sink and out through the faucet under repair.

    That's great! Except the plastic piece that holds the cartridge in is ALWAYS broken. I've never seen it not broken and have to perform surgery to get the damn thing out of there. I hate Moen!

    The O-rings are size 11 if your just after those.

    • @crsnNtl814
      @crsnNtl814 2 года назад

      But note that there are 2 other smaller o-rings inside the plastic casing which may be the source of the problem. You can get to them with effort...worth the $10 to replace the unit.

    Would add the color blue is for cold and red for hot plus if you unscrew Philips first you don't risk touching the cartridge and removing the silicone grease from the outside!

    Fixing one of these at work. There are no videos on this setup except for yours. I figured it out but it took a while. I broke that stupid blue thing that turns the valve. They don’t sell it at my local stores either. Terrible design.

  • @KH-fi1fn
    @KH-fi1fn 2 года назад

    This is straight up the stupidest design I've seen. I bought this set a number of years ago. The cartridges are getting sticky and need grease. The cartridge retainers are seized in there. I have the tool, I tried soaking in CLR, penetrating fluid, applied heat. They will not come out. To moens credit they are sending me a new faucet set to replace this one. They must know the design is faulty. If you have one of these and you can get the retainer out, I would recommend greasing the internal threads with the cartridge grease.
