There are rarely any Indian/South Asian leads in North American films. If there is, they play roles such as the comedic sidekick or a computer hacker as an example. I’m so happy that there’s someone South Asian kids and also adults can look up to that represents them in this space. Hoping this movie impresses and there’s more opportunities for Asian people in general in North American media.
This film was an absolute BANGER. Easily more badass even than John Wick and because it turned to the best inspiration action and revenge cinema has ever produced - Ong Bak, Raid Redemption, Oldboy, I Saw The Devil - yet it also had layers of culture more rich than even those films. Monkey Man is something special. Easily the new standard of a film experience I'd call truly "Primal".
