I rememeber upgrading from Mac OS 7.6.1 to Mac OS 8.1, (having upgraded from 8.0 in favor of more features down the road) and sure enough IE 4.0 (if I recall) was on the desktop. I still have these OS's for my beloved 7600, I just find it ironic someone made a video about them. What's next, Cyberdog? Apples infamous browser at the time? Good job as always MIke.

i stopped using Chrome after Google begins tracking everything you do !
same chrome makes me feel uncomfy. at least with RUclips I consent to tracking of my history of searches and videos watched, that I don't mind. I use Safari + Firefox.

Internet Exploder 5.x for Mac OS was actually pretty damn good. From there, the browser went downhill quite rapidly, and this statement can be verified by anyone who was a web developer at the time (Internet Exploder 6.x) having to come up with hacks to get websites displaying properly.

I know this was comment is 3 years old, back when Windows Media Player was still around. I think it got added into WMP, as WMP played video.
I always thought it was because they developed MS Office for Mac. What an interesting history!

Ironically, the notorious hatred people had of Internet Explorer didn't really start until around the same time this happened.
Prior to 1997, it was practically the Google Chrome of its day! Once Microsoft started really pushing it as the "default" browser for both Windows AND Mac, causing not unfounded fears of Microsoft forming a potential monopoly, it's reputation was basically sealed. IE6 only made its reputation even worse thanks to Microsoft's refusal to update it making it look incredibly outdated compared to literally every other browser.

So yeah, the fact that Microsoft and Intel asked the San Francisco Canyon Company to improve Video for Windows with version 1.1d made Apple feel like the company that ported QuickTime for Windows betrayed them to develop a low-budget bootleg version of it (3:21)

I might be mistaken but I thought that part of the reason why Microsoft invested $150M was also because the Microsoft antitrust case was also ongoing at the time?

Wait a sec, but didnt IE for Mac had completely different engine to Ei for windows? It was reasong to drop support for Mac at some point - they got tired of supporting it.

Apple learned a lot since then. Now you get 'Pages' and 'Numbers' for free while Microsoft still charges for Word and Excel ..... Often overlooked in pricing comparisons. The big question is: did microsoft sell those stocks in the meantime?
You don't get Pages, Numbers and Keynote for free lmao, you need to pay for the iWork apps when you buy an Apple Product, you probably bought them before you bought a new mac. Also the apps are only really comparable to G Suite, so underpowered with bad UI. There is nothing intuitive about using them. MS Office actually has substance and you can actually create things on their Suite of products. The two products are vastly different lmao
I had to check my facts... but no they ARE still free. So regardless of the "UI quality", I'm still able to write some documents without shelling out $100/year or having to resort to pirating. I'm using that 100/year for my Adobe stuff instead.

Microsoft had so much money back in the 90's and was very willing to spread it around so let's just say those companies that didn't take the money aren't around today.
Back when apple actually cared about users.
Other reasons why they stopped the lawsuits is because msword was the go to word processor at the time and didn't really have anything that could come close to it.
IE boasted the most popularity as well as compatibility with most sites making apple users lives easier.
