The Folk Hall is a thriving community venue in the village of New Earswick, York. Opened by Joseph Rowntree in 1907, the Folk Hall, which is a Grade II listed building, was given as a gift to the people of the village as “a place for meeting”.
The Folk Hall has an impressive range of services, with a Post Office, New Earswick Library and a fantastic café on the ground floor. Many elements of the beautiful, historic building have been refurbished and refreshed, with spaces opened up to create a light and spacious interior while respecting its Arts and Crafts design features.
It is a fully accessible venue, with a platform lift providing access to the upper rooms, Changing Places facilities, and ramps at all the entrances. There are hearing loops available for all the spaces within the building, and the café has a range of accessible menus.
The Folk Hall’s café is currently open 9am-3pm Monday to Friday, and 9am to 1.30pm on Saturday.

I have to apologise for there being a delay on my getting videos out the past week. I had some pressing work to do in my kitchen (still ongoing) and I discovered last weekend that a dear old friend I always wished a happy birthday on her 7 Dec birthday sadly died in 2022 and I didn't know until the other day. She was 5 years younger than me, so you can imagine how it knocked me off beam. Hopefully, I am not back on track and still have a full belly from all the grub I have been eating recently but not edited the videos.
For the first time on the channel, I have created all the music on the channel using Suno.ai. If you want a link that gives you a few free credits, just ask in the comments - I don't get anything from it other than a few credits myself. I wrote the lyrics and sentiments myself and I have done quite a few this month, so you will be hearing more of them during the holiday season.
I hope your own plans for Christmas and the New Year are now sorted. If i can work out how to do it, I might be able to go live (or semi live) on Christmas Day since I am going to be on my own as per every other year for the last decade at least. But would you want to join me - it could be a Santa punishment for being on his Naughty List hahahaha.
I have just had to edit the subtitles - YT had priced the meal at £99.95 hahaha as opposed to £9.95 (so for our friends in the USA about $12) . In my rush to add some fancy bits like the new music, song and snow I forgot to award the Nikki's Nod - but it was obvious anyway. I did see the turkey bones by the way but no idea what happened to the brown meat since I wasn't given any.
Cant get welcome to nikkies nosh out my head 🎅🎅
If you look at the earlier recipes and ready meal reviews, I even sing it lol - but it will only make it worse, sorry.
@@NikkisNosh I have seen them all and its that which is stuck in my head !
@@JakkPickford I am so sorry haha - if it helps when I ever hear the song myself, I sing it in my head.
Looking fantastic.
Me or the food hahaha? I DO know it was the food of course, Thank you! Cheers Me Dear x Another vid out tomorrow too !
Nicking your amazing how you have presented this
I loved it !
Thank you Lynne, you are very kind.
The dinner looked so tasty Nikki. A very detailed review, Merry Christmas to you Nikki xx
It was!
Another great review Nikki, as always. Love the Santa hat. The food looked lovely. I would definitely have had the parsnips though, I love them.
I really like this place Folk Hall, their breakfast you reviewed looked awsome too.
Thank you again Nikki ❤
Thank you, Denise. You can have my parsnips anytime. I have tried them more times than I need to. I will never change my mind on this matter.
Haha! @@NikkisNosh
Hi Nikki, new subscriber. Great review, you are a very engaging character!😂 Food looked good but a bit too much gravy for me!
Thank you for subscribing and I hope you enjoy the videos. I am a bit of a gravy lover, I always ask for plenty on my plate. York folk would have a pint of gravy with every meal given the chance lol.
Another great review. The food looked delicious and you described the taste of each very well. The only thing I would have asked for is a bread roll to dip in that yummy looking gravy. Donna
You know, I should have, Donna, but I have a confession to make. It was so filling, I didn't have a single corner left in my ample belly for anything else. A large sourdough bun would have added to the enjoyment for sure.
@ I probably would have eaten the bread and gravy and left the veggies. 😁
@@DLBass-op2ib Naughty girl hahaha. Those sprouts really WERE tasty. I have seen a recipe where you can make coleslaw with raw sprouts !
Just as i was about to leave the Folk Hall, I saw another meal being delivered to another customer - a massive slice of home-made pork and apple savoury pie, veg and chips and gravy for just £6.40 !!! I thought I had filmed it but the customer was in a rush to go eat his grub and I therefore didn't check. I hadn't turned the camera on, but please believe me, and I am not a great lover of pies, but that pie looked incredible. And apparently, the Cafe does a different home-made pie every day for that price. So I have to recommend that to anyone who can visit the Folk Hall Cafe. And they do enormous baked potatoes with a massive dollop of tuna for, I think £4.10 or £4.20 but don't hold me to these prices. I was on the hoof and didn't write the prices down but the above prices are within 50p of my 'estimate'.
Were there any Yorkshire puddings and roast parsnips?....
Sadly no Yorkshires this time. Parsnips were on offer but I traded them for extra sprouts. Winter root veg are not my favourite I am sorry to say. That sweet taste of parsnips leaves me wanting less, not more. so now I always pass on the 'snips.
