- Nikki is a member of the Sizzling Pubs Loyalty Scheme and got a voucher for 40% off all Mains valid until the day this was filmed (10 Jan 2025) so we put it to the test at this Sizzling Pub. Did it all go smoothly? Well you will have to watch to find out, won't you?
So, please join Nikki for an early evening meal at the Black Bull, Hull Road, York when she selects from the extensive menu: a starter and a discount voucher applicable Sizzling Main. Will she polish her sweet tooth by having a dessert?
Well, you will have to watch right through.
If you stay through to the end, you will see why this is only Part 1 of this review since something happens that upsets, normally happy and trusting Nikki that will be covered in Part 2 tomorrow.
This is her first Dining Out Meal & Review of 2025 and hopefully, one of many more to come - Happy New Year everyone.

BUY ME A COFFEE MAYBE?
I fear it will be sometime before we get monetised, so if you enjoy my videos and would like to help support this channel, even as a one-of, it will enable me to widen my food and equipment range for improved content. So, it would be great if you might think to Buy me a Coffee and I will love you forever!
Many thanks in advance.

Integrity Note:
Just a quick point here. Many influencers seek to get free meals or even payment for a good review. I will ALWAYS pay full price for my meal and will never accept sponsorship from takeaways, cafes, canteens, vans or restaurants. This ensures my reviews are ALWAYS independent and what I say, albeit personal to my experience, maintains my integrity.
All vouchers I might use have been obtained through publicly available UK loyalty schemes, discounts due to my being and old age pensioner (senior) or other personal characteristic (other than a RUclipsr!) or I had obtained a discount voucher through a newspaper or online media source which I either got for free like every other reader or I bought it commercially e.g. Groupon.
You're back, marvellous . Happy 2025 Nikki and all. You are an amazing lady, so charismatic ,always put a smile on our faces. Love your videos xxx
Happy New Year Nikki - the food looks lovely xx
Wish i had your appetite its good to watch you enjoy the food 😊
Thank you 😋 Every time I go out for a meal to video, generally speaking I don't eat that day since I am paying out from my state pension plus a small amount from my tiny pension pot and money can be tight, particularly over the winter months. Before I started this channel as a promise to my daughter to keep myself busy and help combat my loneliness, I hadn't been out for a restaurant meal in 6 years. I am gambling on getting monetised at some point in the next 3 months thereabout so some Google Ad Revenue commission will come my way to help pay for all this dining out.
Plus, after running a B&B for 9 years before retirement, I was living through the business. I actually put on 1 stone (14 lbs) for every year I ran the guest house and so far chipping off that extra weight has been a struggle, not helped of course by a fish and chip dinner once a week for starter lol.
Great to see you Nikki. Happy New Year to you. The beef looked superb. Nicely cooked and quite a generous portion. Those vouchers are certainty a bonus. They make it much more affordable and in the cases where the ValueFM isnt so good they make it easier to swallow. Keep up the good work. Loved the gentle music too. Cheers, Archie💜
Thanks so much, Archie and Happy New year to you too! 😊. Save me checking, but I reckon Beef rib is a braised dish and something you might have done on your wonderful cooking channel? I hope I am right since on thinking about it, it is the closest in flavour to my mother's braised steak recipe which I have always failed to replicate.
I don’t know where you put it Nikki 🤣. All looked delicious though. I also love mushrooms 🍄🟫 especially in their raw form. By raw I mean just fried with salt. Yummy. Strange you should mention Garry and Greeno so much. Both are absolute gentleman but both HATE mushrooms.
Anyway. Happy new year to you and yours.
Philip in Ireland ☘️🇮🇪👍
Lovely to hear from you again Philip. I find a place for the food in my substantial belly wehich should be smaller as too should be my appetite of course, but when I am going out for a meal, I don't eat before or after - it has to be my only meal of the day apart from a coffee or an apple.
I like the background music 🎶 ❤😊
Thank you. It is a bit hit and miss getting the audio mix right at times but I will keep on trying to be better at it. My mother said I was always very trying.
Happy New Year Nikki😊. Oh dear I guess your local Harvester isn't that great? The one near me up here in Scotland is fantastic, great food and great deals 👍
Oh wow! and HNY to you Sheila. The English Harvesters get a bit of a bad rap. I seem to think both Gary and Greeno have been to them and been appalled so I have sort of marked them off my 'to visit' list - Harvesters, not G & G lol.
Happy new year. Good to see you back. Food looks good, your delivery is better than Royal naffing Mail
Haha - my delivery is in keeping with the Royal Mail - it is 3 weeks since I last delivered a video. The food was marvellous.
Happy new year Nikki, and how nice it is to seee the fiirst vid of 2025. I actually like the addition of music, however, maybe not in every video. Great review, the food looked terrific, and i would have really enjoyed that pudding. I think you're being fair with your score 😮 or are you??? I hold my breath and wait for part 2.
Brilliant review Nikki. Thank you 👍
Happy new year to you too, Denise and everyone else reading this reply! Well, I decided to split the experience into two since you can clearly see how positive I felt at the end of the video when I set off to pay my bill and my mood changed dramatically after that.
I have another video I have been sitting on since the end of November that had a irreconcilable outcome and I currently cannot find the words to describe what happened before and after eating the meal. I shall on this second one, but it might take me some time.
Happy New Year Nikki. Looking good. Your hair looks nice straight (looks nice curly too) but sometimes it's nice to have a change. Back at work today so nice to relax with a Nikki's Nosh. You eat mushrooms first! You put Gary and Greeno to shame!
Thank you, Bianca. Lets hope 2025 brings us all better health and wealth! I visited my hairdresser before Christmas and we decided to change my hair colour and cut so my 'look' for most of the videos so it looks a bit more professional but it does mean I have to straighten my hair more often. The candy floss look will still appear occasionally though.
All the food looked delicious. The dessert is my favorite. You gave a fair rating. I really want that dessert. All I could eat today was soup. First I had taco soup then ramen soup. I have to be good for a few days as I recover from my liver biopsy. The mushrooms even looked good and I don’t like mushrooms. I have noticed that people in the UK eat mayo on their French fries. Ketchup with some tabasco sauce would be really good on those fries. Glad to see you back. Donna
Donna, I am glad you have come through the liver biopsy safe and sound and you are taking food, albeit soup. I had a wonderful carrot and coriander soup at one of the places I visited before Christmas and it was delicious.
Yes, we Brits do seem to like putting mayo on our fries/chips though many Northerners enjoy having Chinese Curry Sauce on their chips with fish and chips.
You sure like your food hot, Donna. I bought some of that Frank's Hot Sauce you recommended and used it in a Quick and Dirty Prawn Cocktail recipe I filmed just before Christmas - video to follow. It sure pepped up the sauce and I like it better than tabasco. Big hugs and thoughts for you right through 25, Donna xxxxxxx
@ that carrot and coriander soup sounds delicious. Franks is my go to hot sauce. I like curry sauce so dipping my fries in a Chinese curry sauce sounds pretty good. Hubby juiced some pomegranates for me today. Tomorrow I will have beet, carrot, apple, celery, lemon and ginger juice. Trying to be good although I still want that dessert you ate. 😇
Nikki Happy 2025.
Looking forward to following your Vlogs.
Take care. God bless. Steve
And back at you Stephen. I am looking forward to eating some new types of food from different places - big chains and ideally even better small independents. So I hope I do not disappoint you.
Hi Nikki my husband and I have been watching for just a couple of months and really enjoying the videos. We love your personality and enthusiasm and the amount of work you put into the videos. A little bit of constructive feedback: although the music was nice for a short time, but didn't need to have it in when you're talking as it was very distracting. There's also a lot of editing where the scenes skip forward repeatedly but it's distracting when there's a lot. Just keep your full self in - you're great to watch - no need to keep cutting. Hope you don't mind this feedback as we are really enjoying your videos. I've no doubt your channel will keep growing. Looking forward to 2025 vids and by the way York our most favourite place in the whole world. We visit twice every single year without fail. Xxx
You are of course, right, Michelle. At present I am still trying different things to find out what works and somethings don't work or, as in the background music, I fail to get the levels right. It would seem that I have had a stutter all my life and never realised it until I began editing my videos. I said this to my daughter and she said "of course you stutter, didn't you know?" I didn't !!!. So I edit out the excesses. Plus I take my stories off on tangents and they also have to be removed hahaha. If I left everything in the videos might be 2 hours long, believe me.
@NikkisNosh oh I'm so sorry to hear you have a stutter. I think I'm understanding and I hope you work it out. You'll find your style and tricks very soon I'm sure. 👍❤️
@@Michelle-bo5zs Thank you Michelle. At least my daughter has said I have been stuttering for as long as she has been alive and she is 27 this year. So it isn't some sign of a degenerative condition. Mind you, I think it is worse when I am nervous and doing these videos means a lot of concentration. Obviously I don't work from a script haha.
Excellent singing welcome!!!...... Waiting for tomorrow with baited breath 😂
To quote that now deceased old pervert, Harris "Do you know what it is yet?" I am going to record it in the morning at 'Nosh Manor' and so I hope my editing will be fast so I can get it published before 6pm on 14 January 2025.
needless to say, never ask an AHDer to deliver something on time. I recorded Part 2 at about 6pm 14th, editing it overnight and loading it onto YT at about 5 am to be released at 7 am 15 Jan. I have of course, slept a lot of today.
I enjoyed your review but it's been a sizzling pub for years before the re-furb. I went last Wednesday and all 3 meals, all different, were excellent which is usually the case from my experience apart from the odd hiccup which considering I go there about once a month has been minimal. Btw, the Dormouse, off Shipton Rd is a Vintage Inn, the next nearest is the Three Cups at Stamford Bridge.
Thanks John for that extra information on the Black Bull's recent history and I stand kindly corrected. Yes, after I did more research for Part 2, I discovered The Dormouse was on the Vintage Inns list but since I retired 6 years ago, money has been tight and the VI brand's prices seem to have spiralled upwards from when I lived on Taddy Road, I couldn't afford to go back there. In the Noughties I would go there about once a week for lunch.
I thought of putting The Dormouse on my To Go To List. Which of the 3 ones near us would you recommend or do they now all serve up the same menu please?
When I was a mere export sales assistant in the 70s, the first proper restaurant meal I ever had was at The Three Cups on Stamford Bridge and the owner then had an obsession with keeping a massive roundel of Blue Stilton Cheese just covered with a muslin cloth and seemingly without refrigeration - it was totally noxious and incredible flavour at the same time and I have loved Stilton ever since. He would serve it up with a spoon it was so runny.
@@NikkisNosh Like you Nikki,I stopped using Vintage Inns as their prices kept creeping up and the quality was questionable. I loved the Three Cups in the mid to late 80's when they had the best carvery around.
Always interested in your Vlogs as I am a York resident. When you went to 'Phill Ya Boots' you said that 'The Ship Inn' at Acaster Malbis was a place you will go to. Will be very interested to see that Vlog now it is under the new owners. Thanks
I think Phill sold 'Ya Boots' before Christmas so he could spend more time on The Ship Inn but I just checked on Fb and it says they are closed today. I wonder if the Ouse being up has flooded them ? I intend to go back to the Woodthorpe cafe soon since I have to touch base with an old friend I haven't seen in a few years and that is near where he lives. The Ship Inn has a great profile too, so I will try to go to them before April.
The great thing about York is that you are never short of places to go and eat - I think there are enough Food Standards Agency licenced food establishments in the City of York Authority boundaries to go to a different one every day for at least 2 years !!!
I am currently dabbling with trying out the new set menu at The Drovers Arms in Skipwith this week. The last time I went there was over Covid, once going in their huts and another a Sunday roast takeaway for £10 a head that was totally scrummy. I have another old friend who lives near Skipwith.
@@NikkisNosh Thanks for your reply. We went to The Drover's Arms about a year ago, soon after they had finished their refurbishment and had the Sunday roast which was very pleasant. I look forward to see more of your Vlogs.
I was right about The Ship at Acaster Malbis - they have been closed a little due to flooding and their car park and the road in front is still under water - saw it on Facebook.
I woke up late today - retirement and having to edit the Part2 video overnight. So I won't be off to The Drovers today. Maybe next week !
You would think they would put mushrooms in the meal; yes!
Hi Nikki when is part 2 waiting to see what went so wrong x
I am having to record my comments at home and I fear it will be late tonight or early tomorrow morning by the time I edit it since I need some graphics for it too. Sorry.❤
Thank you for taking the time to reply xx
I love mushrooms too!
I am glad I am not alone, Khrystyna !! Thank you.
Lovely personality and excellent videos. But is there really a need for all that background music? What happened to the rule: ‘if you notice incidental music then it shouldn’t be there’?
My personal Head jury is still out on that one, Mr R and I can understand your point. My initial aim when I started to do it was to mask any background chatter as well as copyright music being played that can give you a strike. Not all my videos carry a background music track so I shall try it again without. Thank you again for your constructive comment.
Need to know what went wrong Nikki. We were planning on going tomorrow (Wednesday) x
Sorry for the delay, Debra. Video just rendering now (3:20am Wednesday morning). It will be published for you to watch over breakfast. The important thing is to be sure you have any or all your vouchers and get then scanned BEFORE you pay your bill. Tell us how you get on - remember there is a 40% discount voucher on Mains again this week until Friday.
Correction. Part 2 now loaded into RUclips which is doing all the usual processing and it will be published at 7am GMT/UTC.
Sorry think the guy was right its running a bit too long lol sounds like something off midsummer murders lol very intriguing 😄
I apologise for making it all a bit too click baity on that video, Colin.
Nikki do know there is music playing in background? Not that I mind; but could hear you better without!
The background music was intentional but it remains very much an occasional thing when I edit rather than something I will have in all the videos. Sorry it was distracting.
I hope nobody nikki anything off you?!
Nothing too risky, I felt safe there. Just had issues on the bill. Part 2 will be publisghed before 9am Wednesday 15th jan.
@@NikkisNosh That has happened in the nikki of time!
I think you are our now our Official Punster , Matthew, wetherbridge you like it or not !
@@NikkisNosh I don't mind being the punster, hope it isn't pun-ishment?!
To honest everything is a rip-off in Britain everything sos but fact 😊
I can sympathise with you a great deal, Colin. I cannot help but think the UK Trading Standards & Sale of Goods/Services Laws need a refresh more in favour of the consumer.
The video is a bit longer today, since I also try to summarise what I hope to do in the channel in 2025. Part 2 will explain why I had to temporarily downrate my rating. The food and table service was great at the Black Bull but what happened at the till when I went to pay was most certainly not.
The background music is from Suno.ai again and I was trying some more adventurous prompts to get some interesting chillaxing music. One friend though thinks it sounds like a funeral dirge lol. I would love to know your comments.
@@NikkisNosh I love a wake lol
When I went into the Black Bull it was not very busy or my hearing is going. Progressively as time went by the background hum of other diners talking went up, so I had to switch on the Voice Isolation in editing. I think I got all the hum sorted but if I missed some clips, please accept my apologies. Heck, all the way through the editing, I got more and more hungry as I see me eating again. The food really WAS tasty and the Beef Rib worked out as a net price of £9.29 which for a full meal is a corking price, so, if you are in the UK, please remember to join all these loyalty card/apps but I shall tell you more in Part 2.
Love your content Nikki, I’m sure @GaryEats or the @macmaster would enjoy your b&b style full English. Keep vlogging you’re a breath of fresh air ❤
Thanks so much for your kind comments, Sarah! 😊 I have to admit I would be very nervous feeding either of those two food review giants for very different reasons hahaha.
