It’s fun to check what other people are reading! September was an amazing month for me, I finally rediscovered my love for reading after a 4+ year slump where I barely read anything. For the first time in so long I have read 9 books this month! It will be 10 once I finish the way of kings either today or tomorrow. One of the five books I read this month was The Big Sleep by Raymond Chandler and I was so let down. I saw so many good reviews online and I've been on a crime fiction kick lately, so I thought surely one of the most influential books in the genre would hold up... But no.
Haha I read that book last year and didn't like it either. I loved the subtle humor, but disliked almost everything else. The 'mystery' didn't interest me at all, there weren't really any clues or anything 'unusual' that made me want to know what happened, and I don't understand why the pacing was the way it was: solving the mystery really early on and then chasing after a loose end that I as the reader didn't care about. @@booklanerecommendations One of the things I hated was the mystery as well. Maybe some collections of sci-fi or fantasy short stories? Those don't require a long attention span, and let you sample a particular author's range or get a taste for a bunch of different authors. That way you have a sense if you want to look up their longer works! Two single-author ones I recommend are "The Birthday of the World" by Ursula LeGuin (she's a master of sci-fi worldbuilding in a short page count, with very culture-focused stories, and that really shows here) and "Fragile Things" by Neil Gaiman (which really showcases his range, from Sherlock Holmes/Lovecraft crossovers - 'A Study in Emerald' - to poetry to a unique take on zombies in 'Bitter grounds'). I'm usually hesitant to pick up multi-author collections, but "Afro SF: Science Fiction by African Writers" had a lot of really excellent short stories: 'Moom' (which is also the first chapter of 'Lagoon') is an alien first-encounter from the perspective of a swordfish, 'Home Affairs' is about the results of trying to fight bureaucratic corruption by replacing bureaucrats with robots...and so on. Folktale collections from different cultures are also good for getting a lot of short, engaging stories.
Maybe consider audio to help you get through the books? Mistborn has a good audiobook version. Otherwise maybe consider short stories, Murderbot comes to mind for something shorter.

But then i got into inkheart and mistborn which are most similar to my type and yet, couldn't finish any of the two
What do you suggest i should do?
Fun fact: You’ve officially started reading the same saga as the rest of us who are up to date.
Correction: Not there yet…😅
No, Dressrosa is also a saga.
@@Michael-vl7ey Nope. The Yonko Saga starts in Punk Hazard and is ongoing. Dressrosa is just an arc in that overarching saga.
@@Sebster85 The Dressrosa Saga (ドレスローザ編 Doresurōza Hen?), also known as the Pirate Alliance Saga, is the second saga of the second half of the manga and anime series, One Piece and is the eighth saga overall.
Story Arcs
Punk Hazard Arc: (Manga: 2012-2013) (Anime: 2013)
Dressrosa Arc: (Manga: 2013-2015) (Anime: 2014-2016)
@@Michael-vl7ey Ah I see. I always thought that the Yonko saga started in Punk Hazard. But I see that you’re right. The Yonko Saga officially starts on Zou. That’s weird to me because all the big events that lead to the Yonko saga: Meeting Momo, Kanjuro and Kin, the formation of the Straw Hat - Heart Pirate alliance, Luffy’s decision to take down the Yonko all started in Punk Hazard.
@@Sebster85 Yeah that's where the build up started. But it makes sense because Luffy wasn't already fighting Yonkos or Yonko crews at the time. And now we are in the Saga where that's what he's doing.

Did you DNF Malazan or are you still planning on continuing?
Malazan is a monumental slog. Have paused at book 8.
It's not a DNF. It's a DNFY.
After One Piece u need to watch Attack on Titan.
I'm not sure if she would like it or not:
World & Plot: interesting and a bit mysterious
Characters: flawed but very one dimentional
@@marshwiggle8364 trust me she will like it
