Match 3: 00:27:52
Match 4: 00:35:02
Match 5: 01:01:22
Some say he is still taking turns to this day
welcome to vintage
God I hate time walk decks lol.
Reid's enthusiasm for this archetype is infectious. I love watching Reid play a BGx deck! The editing was a little aggressive.
The editing needs to be done a little better next time. Don't skip the draw step, don't skip any time someone puts something on the stack, makes an attack, takes any kind of action. Just cut out long pauses when one of the players is thinking.
The time skips are a blemish to Reid's otherwise great content
Davi Paulino I actually like the cutaways makes the whole thing look very tight.
The edits are a bit too abrupt, it's rather jarring. I appreciate what they are going for I just think they need a little more practice.
Agree. Match 2 Game 1, all of a sudden the game was over. Even if Reid didn't say anything during that time, the winning moves should still be shown.
i appreciate editing to quicken the content a bit, but i think this was a bit much. There were times when we missed the last few plays to end the game. notably around the 23 min mark.
i was SO waiting for a reid video on this deck
I've been waiting for Reid on this DIXK
The fades ion those dark confidants were soooo fun to watch. Exciting matches there.
"Well you don't want to hear me talk about it." What the hell man yes we do! The insights are all so valuable.
Everyone here talking about the editing, while Reid is playing the hell out of this Jund deck.
Always been a big fan of your Duke. Keep up the good work and glad you can play your favorite deck more now, as I am happy too right now
These videos are amazingly educational. Thanks, Reid!
I think I prefer these videos without the time skips, it's a nice thought but I'd rather have the full commentary and play by play. Especially since it's Reid.
Edit: Some of these cuts are especially jarring, at 23:26 the video skips the opponents first turn, that just seems important enough to leave in.
was about to say the same thing. Would have improved the video quality for almost everyone in the world, except maybe reid...and lsv...
Agreed, videos from those two are good for every second
Yeah just hit the 23:26 cut - got a split second to figure out that Reid burnt out his opponent before it flicked to the sideboard screen. That cut was really bad.
Bloodbraid could be anything, it could even be a boat!
Parts of the editing was nice, others jarring. There were instances where it was fluid, but other points where not. At around the 8 minute mark there's magically a dark confidant in play and the Liliana activation on the stack--what?!
Great work from Reid though as always.
Always makes my day when I see Reid has a new video. Please keep them coming!
I've been waiting to watch this for longer than I realized.
I got to meet Reid at GP houston a couple/few years back , what a tall and cool dude!
Seeing Bloodbraid back in modern warms my cold dead heart. I started playing magic just as it got banned, and have only heard of the utter dominance it delivered in old folk tales. Jund 4 life.
Not a fan of this editing, I don't mind cutting long pauses where no one does or says anything, but skipping full turns or attacks, not showing spells being cast and lands being played is not acceptable. I'm a fan of not having the dumb watermark though, that was a welcome change.
A+ for effort on the editing, I know it takes a lot of work and it demonstrates you give a shit about what you're putting out.
However you need a bit more narrating to make up for the time skips, otherwise it is jarring or unclear. Watch the way Saffron Olive edits. He says "opponent passes" and "pass the turn" etc and jump cuts around it. The game is clear because he always says what happened if he didn't show it.
Zachary Weyandt i doubt it was reid’s decision to edit, nor did he edit it, hence that issue. otherwise i agree
Great to watch Reid play again - always learn something from him. As everyone else in the comments section has said the cuts were quite bad please make less cuts and make them more subtle in the future. It takes you time to try and figure out what just happened and this means that you aren't really listening to what Reid is saying about the current situation. I have watched many RUclips videos that are 2, 3 or even 7 hours long. I would rather a longer video that I can break up if I don't have the time but when I do I can watch the whole thing without distracting cuts.
Another thing I would like to note is that I like to pause the video and think through what I would do and compare this to Reid's lines afterwards. Some of the cuts prevents me doing this by skipping the parts of the opponents turns so I can no longer consider how I would respond.
that last game was brutal. Turns for days!
Anyone else find it ironic that he got wrecked by a timewalk deck at the end of a video with excessive editing to skip time?
This is like two-for-one porn. Also that double Bob draw at 42:50 was nuts. Your mastery of this archetype is really on show here. Awesome stuff makes me want to get back into the deck. I really do think BBE alongside bolt with wind up eclipsing the Mind Sculptor himself.
I notice you decided to include a basic mountain this time. Good on ya, Reid.
You can tell this happened after the Team Modern Super League, where he got blown out for not having one. His opponent's field of ruins cut off his red mana several times and he had lightning bolt, k-command and bloodbraid one of those times. Having the single mountain would have totally avoided that issue.
Been waiting for this video for a while. Keep on junding them out, Reid!
About damn time lol thanks for an awesome watch Reid
Also for whoever is cutting the video, it's way too much. The discontinuity is completely disorienting throughout. Often times it's difficult to keep up with simple interactions because of the jarring nature of the cuts. Allow for more continuity please. Otherwise great vid
A lot of people say "Better lucky than good." for Modern. But I think it's safe to say here that Reid Duke is both.
I like the edits, reading the comments the majority dislike them, which is fair, they are abrupt and sometimes youre like, wait wtf, was that lag.. but i find when i watch these videos i skip a ton, like 5-10 seconds ahead, when i know hes just gonna play land pass, or dude pass, so for me it saves me from clicking every 50 seconds. Anyways WELL PLAYED Reid, you always make the most profitable play every time. Gl at the mocs
if you read this.
I just realized Reid that we have the same exact tastes in modern.
"You know what'd be a great draw? Bloodbraid Elf."
This deck is soooo my style :) Love seeing the deck piloted by Reid Duke :D
i really respect how reid doesnt use the royal "we" like other content creators do (*cough* Frank Lepore *cough*) or if he does it's almost never used when he makes a mistake ("I Misplayed").
28:08 "I guess shouldn't speak too soon, but I'm expecting this to be more or less a slaughter."
Sure enough, it was.
I’ve waited for this day
Bout time, I was expecting Reid Jund content the second of the announcement😂
Never clicked on a video so fast.
Been waiting for this! 😁
Eww Reid has the cutest convos with op's on modo I love it lol great content brother always a treat
Reid Duke and Jund - The weekend starts here!
I loved that last deck. What a neat deck.
The editing kind of ruins the video because the one playing is Reid, and Reid explains all his choices, even if it's just searching for a land to put into play. The logic behind behind Reid's thought process is mainly the reason why people watch videos of him.
Yes totally agree - Reid and LSV probably are the two best streamers to watch if you want to learn. The way they go in to detail of all the different lines they could take and all the cards that they consider playing around is great and as you said the time they put into thinking about land drops and tapping mana.
I quite like the chopped up editing, but could do with some more info with the cuts (leaving in draws, sequences of plays, etc.) but the efforts are really appreciated. I love Reid's vids, but having the action cut together makes a far more enjoyable video.
the 4-2 inquisition/thoughtseize split is interesting when 2 powerful 4 drops were just unbanned.
Editing was good, skipping pauses is the way to go. Some skips where to large, so it was not quite clear what happened, aside from that flawless video, happy to see the elf back in modern
People are right to complain about the timeskips, but I just want to point out that the idea is awesome in theory. I think the editor just needs some more practice, but I think with this time it'll really improve the content.
I enjoy how the first game gets going right away with BBE itself just overrunning a control opponent. Beautiful. That being said, it does highlight why I'm a bit confused by the BBE unban. Not because of power level, BBE is not out of line with other powerful strategies in the format. But it's a buff to an archetype that was doing fine (there have been many high placing Abzan decks, similar to Jund), in *particular* against a strategy that was arguably more in need of help in the format, which is reactive control strategies. Like, BBE isn't honestly particularly good against the powerful linear strategies like Tron, Storm, or Burn, which run the format. I'm not too sure what the point of unbanning BBE was, when it hurts some decks that need help, and does little to the top decks.
Which is actually why I kinda understand the Jace unban a little more, even if it's by *far* the more dangerous one (and I wasn't a fan of either). At least Jace has the chance to boost archetypes which could use some help. I just can't support the unban because I don't like power in Modern being so concentrated in one card. The current midrange grindy matchups are fascinating because there is no trump card. Jeski control relies on mediocre finishers like Raise the Wastes, and no one card breaks the stalemate (including other grindy strategies, like the valuetown CC decks, some of the Bedlam reveler decks, etc). I'm just concerned that even if Jace based archetypes aren't too strong, he's going to become too much of a trump card in those matchups, where all that matters is landing your jace.
This deck is B E A utiful :) i dont feel bad for being in the way to do my jund... was thinking of abzan all this time but with bloodbraid elf.... it became my new target...
That blue deck was amazing. I just made uw control and was gonna do miracles now i wanna do that taking turns deck
Man, if there’s any CFB content creator of whom I’d happily watch 2 to 3 hours, it’s Reid Duke. Reid’s also unfortunately seem to be the only videos that are edited so heavily. It’s unnecessary! I don’t mind sitting through extra time if I’m doing so with Reid!
I love all of these edits and wish people did this more often!
Oh my god that blue deck was filthy
this is the content i'm here for
You can follow what's going on if you pay attention but if you're newer or looked away for a second you may miss an interaction and have to back up, which increases the relative time of your video to something akin to it's lightly edited counterpart.
I love that you guys are trying to edit. However, if this is the best you can do please never do it again. End of game 1 match 2 skipped from end step to end of game in a single frame. I would like to see the spells be cast and resolved. Even though it's clear what happens it is not entertaining to watch, which is at least half the reason I'm here. That being said, it's also not interesting to watch opponents tanking and afking so editing that out would be grand. Good luck with future attempts, whoever edits MTG goldfish videos is a master, though I imagine it also has to do with Seth knowing how it will ultimately be edited and him accommodating that with his narration style.
I would add a Choke or two to the sideboard, with Jace unbanned, that awful type of blue deck of the last round, and other controls, will get more play. Great content.
Excellent gameplay, editing can get better but is a step in the good direction for magic content
Agree, Reid is arguably the best content creator at explaining his logic and gameplay, but this editing is so distracting that I got nothing from the video. Please have the cfb editors take a different approach, or leave it alone and let us have our long pauses. we know how to speed up or fast forward the video as necessary, no need to take that control away from us.
22:00 I think they are winning the long game with huge shadows and you best bet is to just chump with elf, knowing you run lots of bolts, could have attacked with both into goyf and burned them out
That 4th game was manly af
Yeah, they should have a transiton between rounds, evolve the content abit. Maybe a segment in between each round with Reid giving his thoughts after the match etc..
God damn a surgical extraction would have made some work in those matchups! Out with a lilliana + bolt and in with two surgicals!
I have been waiting for this since the ban announcement
It's great you are editing the videoes now, maybe just be more careful not missing the crucial end plays and reids reactions. otherwise fantastic with more editing of the slow parts, especially the opponents slow plays
No final notes or a summary?? Love the speed editting!
M1G1 I wonder if it would be better to let BBE and Tarpit trade and return Bloodbraid with KCommand to get more Value if opp has removal.
Also I liked the editing. Maybe a bit less next time, but I found it superior to non-edited content.
I was watching this on my phone on silent in the library, and was very confused by all the jumping around. came home and put it on and see that it is just the way it is being edited. With the audio, Reid is usually narrating what he is going to do and then the video just skips over it all, so you can mostly follow it. But even with narration, it is sometimes really hard to follow. I've had to rewind the video a couple times to re-watch parts, because it is just too fast and abrupt. 18:27-18:50 was a bit much.
I think the editing was great.
At no point i thought it was unclear. I did not even think about it.
Could someone point out timestamps of bad/confusing editing.
If there are that many comments i suppose i have missed somthing
The editing is a touch quick. If you watch Reid's clock you can see that some of the edits cut long gaps of probably dead air (normal for Reid), but a lot of the edits cut out 2-3 seconds at best.
Editing is a doubled edged sword. Ya swing it around too much and the comments section is going to come for your head.
I managed to watch 3 minutes of this. Please don't do that kind of editing again. I don't mind watching the full length of Duke videos. It's actually quite nice having some time to reflect over the plays. Especially when the master is playing.
A man and his Elves... Lovely
Nice Reid!
Try one copy of Despise in your sideboard. Has been working great for me in playtesting against the blue control deck, and gives you an edge against the red deck as well when thoughtsieze serves as more of a coffin nail in the late game.
why no cage against mono blue? or spell bomb? lightning bolt that good?
Reid, maybe moving forward in a world of JtMS, perhaps Dreadbore over some number of other spells (maybe abrupt decay and maybe 1 bolt etc?
Im loving this deck is there a link to the full list?
What was the reason for selecting the confidant instead of waiting until bloodbraid hit the yard and then just picking up the braid again? Wouldn't that have been an objectively better use of your resources? The game started to slip away from you after that misplay.
At 55:57 why play Bob and not goyf? You have two (plus a scooze) and wouldnt the card advantage by bob be more valuable than a beater?
Oops, I didn't even notice!
Well, good thing I still have my BBEs! 😃
after g2 you hadn't seen any delve creatures, why take out the last boly when his threats are snap, tar pit and jace?
if only i had the money to buy this deck !
At 1:10, why didn't you bolt the Jace ?
The blowout at 1:00:20 made me a bit moist :D
Keep up the great work!
You could tell he was buttmad about losing to that last deck because he wouldn't concede even though it was obvious his opponent was trolling him by playing every spell possible instead of just winning as fast as possible
31:00 you say obviously Maelstrom Pulse is good vs Storm. I was actually typing to ask why and it dawned on me that you're expecting they bring in Empty the Warrens, which is fair. I'm still going to post this comment, though, because since Pulse is garbage against them game 1, I think an addendum to that commentary of "because they're going to bring in Empty" would have been helpful.
i can live with the edits, but i think that other players need them more, like nassif who takes forever. reid's commentary and gameplay were perfect to watch to begin with, so i'm not opposed to editing some of the gameplay you post, but just not reid
Bloodbraid unbanned? Suddenly I have an interest in MTG again
I was expecting and hoping for this video, but still overcome with excitement when I saw it had been posted :D
Shame it's been used as another attempt at the tight editing method, which still detracts from rather than adds to the experience.
My advice to improve the editing would be this: count the average number of cuts you've been making per video (ignoring length of cut, just number) on average and divide that number by 10. Then for the next similar length video you edit, start with that new number as the absolute upper limit for number of cuts you are allowed to make.
This should result in a lot fewer, short cuts of
At 39:17 why didn't he play another land and just use Raging Ravine then attack with both BB and RR? What am I missing?
Okay I am kinda new to modern (and magic in general), so can someone please explain to my why one would play 25 lands in a deck thats highest cmc is 4?
He wants to guarantee being able to cast Bloodbraid Elf on curve since it’s such a powerful card and he also has 4 manlands to sink mana into. Liliana of the Veil also helps you dump extra lands if you get her out so you aren’t discarding spells.
funny how people look at things so vastly different - was thinking how much i enjoyed the attempt to edit videos which so much of actual play time is search for land and OP thinking etc. perhaps it's jarring but also people are just not used to the process itself
But there is even play time being cut.
I go back and forth between thanking CFB for the content and raging about the inconsistent and badly done editing choices. Shrug.
I'm a fan of speeding up the recording, the time skips aren't bad at all.
In the storm matchup, why is maelstrom pulse better than push? I’m probably missing something, but I’m curious as this is super complex deck
Liam Childs it's good versus Empty the Warrens. that's the main reason.
oh, sure I'd forgotten about that. Thanks!
does anybody know where I can find that timewalk list that looked super fun
1:03:40 Someone's been watching Magic Aids...
Also about the editing: It was mostly fine, except for some awkward cuts here and there. People on RUclips are being crybabies? No way!
44:00 Greatness, at any cost
I feel like he should have cast the Inquisition or Brutality instead of the Goyf in the final game. What's the 3 per turn when you can give yourself a chance to take an Exhaustion or Warp?
Around 37 min you talk about bolting the death shadow and then bolt in response to the fetch to play around stubborn denial. That would not work. Pay 1 life Cracking fetch makes it a 4/4
