- Darkstalkers (aka the Vampire series) was a rising fighting game star in the 90s for Capcom. But then one day, it vanished. Well, not vanished, but new games no longer were made and the Darkstalkers had to live on in crossover games and re-releases. However, it has remained a niche fan favorite ever since. So, to pay tribute to the premiere monster fighting game, let's rank every single character on the roster! Part of it is the character's importance to the series, both in and outside the game, and the vibes of the character. Sometimes, I just gotta say how much I like a character. The Darkstalkers will live on!

Mr. Top Ten, if I remember right. Q-Bee is hunched over because she's looking right at them with her real eyes. The humanoid face is the mouth and her actual bee eyes are her hair buns.

@MrTopTenList Secondly, this "Top 10 List" is a bit wishy-washy without a dive into the deeper, darker lore, especially since you skipped over a lot of lore surrounding the more important Darkstalker Characters.
@@jakeblancaster8498 A lot of omitted lore is stuff I've covered in previous videos, specifically my list on the Forgotten Darkstalkers Characters, so I tried to balance this as a video that wouldn't repeat points I brought up before, but for people just discovering my videos, it would be a good introduction for the series and if they were more interested, I have other videos to expand upon it. The list was more meant to be a tribute to all the years I've spoken about individual characters and finally pit them against each other in a ranking. Jedah for example has gotten entries in 5 other videos, or for Victor, I covered his Darkstalkers Revenge lore related to Dr. Gerdenheim on my Top Ten Electricity users ing Fighting Games video, and then his Darkstalkers 3 lore related to Emily in my Top Ten Grapplers in Fighting Games video, along with Dr. Gerdenheim getting his own entry in the Forgotten DS Characters list. Happy 30th Anniversary Darkstalkers and Morrigan is my favorite because she's iconic!
Far as Morrigan's abilities go, lore states that her wings have incredible shapeshifting powers, not only forming things like jet boosters and laser cannons, but also hardening to a stone-like consistency to block attacks. Lilith, being a part of Morrigan's soul, also has these abilities.
As for BB Hood, the reason for her involvement in the story is that she's so actively malicious that Jedah mistook her for being a Darkstalker and drew her into his realm. Her matchup against Lord Raptor is meant to contrast how the two became so monstrous.
@@Blayne06 Bulleta/BB Hood is one of the most evil characters in the series.
She is cruel, greedy, and enjoys killing her victims.
She is so evil that she caught the attention of Jedah, who deemed her worthy of joining his dimension.
In Project X Zone 2, Bulleta appears as an enemy, she changed jobs from Dark Hunter to assassin, saying those days are over.
She got hired by Shadaloo and even Lord Raptor
Also fun fact, Lord Raptor's friend (Le Malta) has a crush on Bulleta but she doesn't care about love.

B.B is my absolute favorite character, along with Jedah. Guess I like the evil ones or something.
She says so much with what little we know of her.

I even would want to see certain characters (particularly Jon, Felicia, Morrigan, B.B. Hood, and Sasquatch) in future Smash games (make them T-rated like Brawl, its not too hard)

the long awaited video at last! even if darkstalkers is being themed in horror i alway think of it as the most playful of the capcom fighting games, everyone movesets are so cool and imaginative
Here’s how I see an announcement trailer for a new Darkstalkers game to go today:
It starts with a foggy background which then reveals the Capcom logo. It then fades away to reveal a full moon in the night sky. We then hear a female narrator talk about the conflict between the light and the darkness, all the while we’re shown the following images:
Demitri's coffin opening up revealing one of his glowing red eyes.
Several men reduced to shriveled-up husks as Morrigan dresses herself up and flies away.
Jon Talbain's human hand slamming against a wall as he transforms into his werewolf form.
Anakaris rising triumphantly from the sands of Egypt.
Felicia walking towards a bright and shining stage as she begins her performance.
Victor's lifeless body lying limp on an empty bed in his castle before being hit by small bolt of lightning which brings him back to life.
Bishamon's sword Kien being unsheathed, which releases a dark aura.
A graveyard where we are then shown Lord Raptor’s grave, which then bursts open as he rises from the grave clutching his signature axe.
A shot of the Amazon river as we then see Rikuo's silhouette swimming beneath the water.
A snowy trail where we then see Sasquatch walking by, leaving behind large footprints.
A decommissioned Huitzil robot, which suddenly reactivates itself.
An ember from a volcano which suddenly sprouts horns and blue glowing eyes, revealing it to be a fragment of Pyron.
Donovan's sword Dhylec embedded into the ground before being telekinetically pulled out.
Mei-Ling in her talisman form searching for her sister Hsien-Ko before noticing her offscreen and jumping towards her.
BB Hood inside an armory full of weapons, preparing an Uzi and putting it in her picnic basket.
Q-Bee and her legion of Soul Bees flying off in search of souls to eat.
Lilith seeing a bright and colorful amusement park and then transforms into her human disguise to join in the fun.
Jedah Dohma's lifeless body rising from a pool of blood, where he then opens his eyes.
We then see the title of the game, which is Darkstalkers 4, however a disclaimer at the bottom of the screen says that this is a working title.
The final image then teases the game’s new villain, who is shrouded in darkness before revealing his glowing red eyes. It then cuts to the game’s targeted release date.
That’s how I see an announcement for a new game to go, anyway.
All great ideas! Not sure how many characters they'd put in a reveal trailer, but I can't imagine a new DS game without the 18 original fighters. Maybe a new boss or the mimic characters added in too. As long as they don't omit any of them to just sell them as DLC later.
I can't believe you missed Donovan's 3 other spirits. He doesn't only control fire, ice and thunder spirits. He can also summon a water, giant-earth type and devil type spirits as his special moves.
I've covered Donovan int he past, so I didn't want to repeat everything, but I should've brought up the giant one at least. I love making a Monty Python reference with the stomp. Also, I always assumed the devil spirit was his Dhampir side taking charge, which why I only showed it, but the water spirit I did miss! I generally just use the fire, ice, thunder, and giant foot when playing him, so those dudes stuck out in my head the most when writing.
@@MrTopTenList The water spirit is a bit confusing. Evereything about her appearance suggests a water-type (the trident, the watery background etc), but she actually helps Donovan by striking a thunder? And not to mention that he already has a thunder / electricity type spirit? Maybe you should do a video just for all of his spirits hahah.
Everything visual about this game is perfect!
I mean even the animation of being electrocuted is so unique to each character (Pyron getting a constellation skeleton or seeing the little bee inside Q-Bee)
or in Zabel's Hell Dunk when the little ball version of each character splats on the ground (LeiLei's sistser's spirit squirting out of her mouth or Donovan turning from one of his wooden beads into a string of beads), they have just about thought of every touch.
It would definitely lose something if they ever 'upgrade' it to Streetfighter 4-5-6 style.
I've heard rumors (and basically confimations) that a new Darkstalkers was in development during the middle of the SSF4 days, and I can't imagine how it would've dealt with all the life in the character animations with the stiffer SF4 graphics. I'm almost afraid a non-sprite artstyle would've dampened hype. UMvC3 did it's best, but I feel the DS characters were missing a bit of oomph (mostly in their getting hit animations), so maybe it's for the best it didn't happen in the early 2010s. Though, now with the Guilty Gear cell-shading tech, Darkstalkers has a chance to look stunning in modern gaming.

Infected crows (Resident Evil), messenger birds (Demon Slayer), Ravemon (Data Squad), Raphael (Mario), etc.
Q-Bee's eyes are on her hair, the face is just a human disguise.
Heisen Ko is in my all time top 19 fav characters. But I also loved Caffeine Nicotine in samurai showdown to.
Q-Bee is on the list, I'm happy.
Morrigan was the introduction of the succubus to japan.
almost any Succubus over there after her introduction...is literally designed off of her. That's just crazy. I remember when she was pitched,The Japan side of the capcom team working on it didn't even know what a succubus was, until they told them and they were like hell yeah lol.
that guitar riff lord raptor plays when he slides sounds like the opening guitar riff in megaman x6 boss theme
Both were made around the same time by Capcom, so maybe they had someone who really liked that idea on the teams.

What an interesting series of games, with an equally interesting cast. (All of these characters are memorable, most likely because of how odd they are)
Lord Raptor is definitely my favourite Darkstalker, he is so charismatic and interesting that I think he would be very popular if he got exposure outside of the series.

We love you Darkstalkers happy anniversary! I hope someday you can get another game sequel. I wished Capcom can make it someday or make another Capcom edition. I love all the characterd in Darkstalkers and one of the few series where I enjoyed the cast. I hope Capcom can revive this series even if its another port we still love Darkstalkers.

Aside from KoF, I think Darkstalkers have the best character designs. Even if I don't like their playstyle, every character looks interesting and unique and makes me want to play them just to check out their story. It also helps that the visual style and whacky animations make everyone so fun to play.
I believe Rikuo actually rides a horseshoe crab...

Capcom is missing out on using the Darkstalkers characters in other games (ether theirs or another company) as guest characters.

J. Talbain - Street Fighter
Lilith & Teenage Anita - Digimon Story or World
B.B. Hood is pure evil. It was stated that while everyone else is based on horror movie monsters, she is based on the true evils of man. The horrors of the night and stories pale in comparison to the true evils of men.
As the only pure blooded human, she is the most sadistic and cruel character in the series. A serial killer through & through.
I've always viewed her as a twisted Van Hellsing parody since she's a monster hunter, but to the extreme, which Darkstalkers was somewhat lacking in the first 2 games, with Hsien ko and Donovan still being part Darkstalker.
If a Darkstalkers character were to grace their way onto a future
Super Smash Bros title it's most likely Morrigan. Despite her
very sexy appearance, she surprisingly has way less skin than
say Felicia who's practically naked except for a few bits here
and there. As for Demitri Maximoff... Yeah, maybe it's a good
thing our favourite succubus is far more popular because I do not
want to see that guy performing Midnight Bliss on the entire
roster... Especially the younger kid characters! (And Pokemon)
I’m with you: all Darkstalkers are great and there’s no bad Darkstalkers. If I have to name favorites: Talbain, Felicia, Raptor, Huitzil, and Anakaris. The fans have kept the series going, but hopefully Capcom will join in on the fun and someday make this list obsolete. Until then, keep the spirt of Darkstalkers alive with great fan content!
Glad you liked it! Hoping this list can get a bit of outside attention from my channel (or even get the interest of the people subscribed for the non-fighting game content) just to at least get a few more people interested in the series. It's such a creative series that I wish could be given a shot in the modern day of gaming.
@@MrTopTenList it seems like every Halloween, Darkstalkers gets a little bit more exposure and a bit more mainstream acknowledgment. This year seems to be the most it’s had in 25 years. Between the numerous fan vids and art, the Darkstalkers battle pass, and Nakayama finally acknowledging to have worked on a Darkstalkers game over 10 years ago, we might be getting closer to something big!

Ah, good ole nightmare music. There's a free RUclips Audio track that has that type of pitch shifted music and I've always wanted to try it in a Halloween video, but I think it's too creepy to just have passively playing.
Lord Raptor was one of the main villains in the project x zone crossover I believe.

Thank you! It's hard to see a crossover without Morrigan at this point, but I think Lilith deserves a shot! I'm fine if it's Morrigan and 1 or 2 characters that haven't been in a crossover yet (Raptor's my top pick for that).

Its funny to me that our top 5s are so similar. Mine is more or less ask me on a different day and the top 3 could shuffle around. Demitri just doesn't seem as interesting to me as Morrigan and Jedah. He is just kinda there and Jedah more or less upstages him entirely as a rival to Morrigan because of his connections to Belial and Lillith.

When I was editing, I was wondering why I didn't put Felicia higher, which might've bumped Demitri out since he got a boost from me sympathizing that he never gets crossover love like a lot of the other higher ranked characters. Either way, I do love the Jedah storyline with the succubi the most, and I like Felicia and Raptor doing their own thing each game. I would liek to see a hero/anti-hero team-up with them again like in the OVA.
@@MrTopTenList I absolutely love the idea of Lord Raptor as an anti-hero type. One aspect of him I feel is never explored enough is apparently he has a crush on Hsein-ko, but they never do anything with that story wise. He just gets a unique entry animation against her. Hsein-ko in turn has a victory screen line about him in MvC3. I could see a Felicia and Raptor team up maybe running into Hsein-ko to add to that team up, Felicia just being the piece keeper between the odd couple of Hsein-ko and Raptor.
Felicia also has a good dynamic with Talbain in the comics, so maybe could throw him in there too. Make like this small team up of Darkstalkers Similar so a Maxi, Kilik, Xianhua world traveling trio. Though in theory with would be more of a 4 person team up, 5 if you count Mei-Ling with Hsein-ko. Maybe they could even frame it as a music world tour situation since both Felicia and Raptor have ties to being musicians.
@@ironmurothe manga are very rare but they explore Lord Raptor and Hsien-Ko’s relationship very well. He is not just lustfully in love with her but actually wishes to be loved by her ever since their first encounter where he saw how determined she was even after she lost a battle to him. Raptor has a lot of evil in his heart but there is still a soul in there.

I'll always love darkstalkers. A pity, capcom would rather whore 1 or 2 character likenesses for skins dlc rather than an at least actual guest appearance ;/
I just had a stone-faced reaction when they announced Darkstalkers items for SF6. I knew it was going to be that tier of representation when announced, so I went in expecting nothing and still was disappointed.

Definitely sounds close, but that's Garry Chalk, voice of Optimus Prime in the 2000s Transformers series, Robotnik in Sonic Underground, and a bunch of other characters in shows voiced in Canada.

When I was doing a stream where I was capturing the footage for this video, I was wondering if I gave too much sympathy to Demitri losing his main character status and not enough credit to how much I liked the whimsy of Felicia, since they might've switched spots if you caught me on the right day. Alas, I stuck with my gut feelings with the ranking.

Happy anniversary they are going to have crossover with a show about Queen’s and Blade no am not joking two of my favourite franchises are having a crossover I wish they could be in a fighting game together.
I saw this too yesterday morning. Quite a surprise considering Queen’s Blade is notorious for the fan service and none of the Capcom ladies got a combat book in the spin-off Queen’s Gate series from years past.
@@YeldellGW yeah but both franchises have lot in common when you think about they both live in world where demons are hunted by humans and both the main protagonist and these days the reboot of the antagonist have themes similar to Morrigan.

To me, Darkstalkers is not as serious/dark as some people think.
The main reason why I like it is because it is silly, goofy and cartoony
Donovan could work better in other franchises like Street Fighter, The King of Fighters, etc.
The reason Donovan was made is because Dimitri was the protagonist in the first game, and Capcom said Dimitri is too evil to be the protagonist. So Donvan was the protagonist of Darkstalkers 2 because he's more likable than Dimitri.

@@meganinten0078 Fun Fact: Capcom said that Hanna-Barbera cartoons and Disney were the biggest inspiration for the animation of Darkstalkers. It wasn't because they wanted to, it's because they had to.
It's confirmed that all of the characters were designed by different artists. Thus Haruo Murata had to come up with a way for all the characters to fit in the same world.
Cool Fact: Demitri in the OVA is voiced by Paul Dobson, most known for Naraku from InuYasha.
Anacarus ( don’t know how to spell that) seems similar those two brothers sealed into a suit of armor Ed fought in FMA or the other way around depends who came first
