  • Here are a few simple concepts and principles that are key to CONTROLLING the BAD GUY.
My goal is for those that are not very comfortable in a grappling type situation to understand that it doesn’t require a ton of techniques and tom foolery to be effective.
If a person becomes comfortable in the positions shown in the video, they will be able to handle many situations that involve gaining control of a combative person.
    This is a start point.
The more confident we are in a hands on scenario, hopefully helps us make better decisions in violent situations.

I keep telling other officers at work that they need to get rid of the universal "defensive tactics" and move to grappling and jiu jitsu. It will develop confidence in the officer and without a doubt, reduce officer injuries and civilian deaths. Shout out to my jiu jitsu coach Carlos David. Great video man!

I have been in law enforcement for almost 21 years and this video is by far one of the best that I have viewed that allows me survivable options in an extremely common situation. Defensive tactics as we all know generally only work on passive individuals but this is extremely helpful and it appears to work well. Please keep up the outstanding work and I only wish that all departments taught these techniques because we all know in the field the basics just don't work but this is real life and it is good to go. Semper Fi!

I'm from the UK,so no firearms involved. But I'm an ex C.O.P sniper and if done security contract's in various country's. I have also been a professional bouncer for many many years. Plus I train 4-5 day's a week at MMA for street fighting. Which is very different from MMA for the cage. So i have had more than my share of violent contacts. And if seen many videos that are just a joke. But I'd like to say I really liked your video. There was a few things I'd do different, but I'm year's into my grappling training. And this is a quick video for beginners. So thank you for showing something simple and that may work.

there is no MMA for street fighting, the difference for self defense is purely tactical, all techs are exactly the same, thats why it works. As for street fighting in general, the concept shouldnt exist, you are protecting yourself, mature adults should not be matchfighting outside sports.

Thanks for putting out another great video. If I may add, I just wanna advise people to be careful with practicing the sit throw during live rolling. There’s a risk of blowing out the other guy’s knee if you put pressure on the side of their knee as you sit. In judo we cal it tani otoshi, and I’ve been on the receiving end of a nasty knee injury from someone sitting on my knee sideways.

Zee another good video. As stated this is for beginners, or walk ins, however for the intent it's very well done. The biggest fault I have ever seen in fights is that people stopped thinking. As soon as you lose that, you've lost. And to the getting tired / desperate point, your dead right. Ppl tire out and give up. I would suspect in an actual match that against your sparring partner there, you would have to work a lot harder to get him by yourself. And could end up with him getting you. Which is the second point I was going to bring up overconfidence. Way to many ppl today are supremely over confident simply because they have been misled by television, and movies. I like that you kept it simple and again emphasized the need to practice. 3 and 1/2 years of judo and 1 1/2 years of MMA has taught me that practice is the essence of success. The odds of randomly encountering a person who is well versed in actual fighting is low for average Joe. In your line of work its significantly higher. Keep up the good vids and don't hurt yourself

This is a very good video and you guys are excellent in demonstrating and explaining certain movements/ leverage and how to survive. But if you are a LEO one can no longer put a knee on someone’s back let alone his head or neck to affect an arrest without being criminally charged these days. But I’m sure in court the LEO could articulate that he was fighting for his life and retaining his gun, etc... but who wants to go through that circus?. But in this day and age it seems like the cop will be criminally charged for affecting an arrest by putting his knee on his back etc. and just doing his job??
So how else can an LEO subdue and affect an arrest without putting his/her knee on the perps back etc and not be criminally charged? I’m sure there are other methods but how can you place the perp in cuffs without having your knee or body weight on him and without causing a nationwide riot 😒🙄 lol . Now if it’s off duty that is a different story you do what you need to do to survive but while on duty cops have to be careful more so because people can be secretly/openly recording and now most cops have body cams. If cops have to second guess their actions in fear of being charged then that can be a fine line between life and 💀. Hence why cops don’t want to get involved anymore in order to protect their lively hood/pension. Excellent video , I like the wheel barrel method and crossing their legs, keep up the good work, stay safe everyone :-)

Very good. These techniques work plus you can add strikes and submissions. Grappling ( wrestling/Judo/Jiujitsu/Submission wrestling/catch wrestling/MMA ) is the first thing you should learn as self defense. Anyone can strike. You can add striking once you master the basics of grappling.

If you go to your own wrist as a grip, it makes more sense to grip the back wrist with the front hand. This makes it so that the actual gripping power is perpendicular to the force your opponent will most likely exert to escape, rather than parallel to it. It's less likely to slip that way. Try it. It makes a difference.

This is all basic wrestling/traditional Gracie Jiu jitsu which is and always will be superior to any other form of self defense training. I've been in LE almost 9 years, wrestled in high school, training Gracie Jiu jitsu for 5 years and Judo for a little over 2. Any combination of these will win the fight against the majority of the people, even with minimal training. If you are LE and care about your life and career I urge you to pay attention to this video and find somewhere to train and expand on these basics presented here. Great content and extremely applicable to the real world.

If your going to shell up, advance in (staying in punching reach is to risky as his blows can either penetrate your guard or your arms will absorb blows that can still knock your head senseless) then in the clinch get your face behind his shoulder (not worth showing your face, he can thumb your eye out) you may have to squat slightly to (as if to pull a single leg take down) to get around him. You will have the same effect and your face will be protected. I would prefer your 2nd technique 8:15 to take down bad guy ( advance outside foot when sweeping/sitting 8:15 or you will injure your leg) once he is down its a whole different ball game since he going to squirming around, I having submission grappling background so I would get to the RNC or some strangulation asap.

The moral of the story is to draw attention and desperation away from the weapon on your hip. You want to prevent the ability to access of your weapon first and foremost. In a moment of desperation, rolling around on the ground you are absolutely not going to have this kind of detail and thought process. It might help but it's not always going to be a given. Training for combative situations is just basic prep work. You need to be able to move quickly and effectively!, dodge incoming attacks and strike back with precision!. No amount of training can truly prepare you for this. Avoiding it altogether and maintaining good distance is the best practice. Usually a good ability to judge attitude and body language is key. People tend to exhibit certain body language and tell tell signs of fight or flight. There are so many variables involved. Nothing is going to be absolute. With that being said there is also the situation of force. Was the force you put into it justified and nessary? Is there proof to mitigate the incident? Was protocol and policy followed? Whole yes it is import to prepare for variables it is also extremely complicated to prepare for the outcomes, considering the rules, policy etc.

if youre going in for a body lock takedown and youre more angled to the side make sure your hips are in, because if the other guy knew what he was doing hed hit you with a head and arm throw or a judo toss. allot of people learn to wrestle by attacking the feet but when they are in upper body , not everyone knows how to position properly, as he was explaining that first takedown i was just shouting head and arm throw , head and arm throw he didnt address how to prevent it. the other stuff was good

I think a single leg is pretty simple and effective as a go to take down but when someone is on there hands and knees like that wouldnt a seatbelt to a rear naked be the easiest straight forward finish. Especially since we are talking about going against untrained grapplers. I like that wheel barrel from behind. That's a new one on me. : )
