The holding of the chin fur for safety and spraying the pin brush with the coat conditioner are should good tips. Also, I didn’t even know there was a tool for de-matting!!

If only I could get our 11 month old to be as cooperative! I also wasn’t aware of the dematting tool. Thank you for a very helpful lesson and I’d like to ask for your recommendations on what must-haves novices should include in thei Yorkie grooming kit.

Thank you Robert, it takes time to train your dog to sit still, be patient and he will reward you with his trust💕

I need tips for how to be able to brush my 8 month old Yorkie who is super wary of any foreign object approaching here. She moves quickly out of the way. Very squirmy. I can pet and hug her with ease but beyond that, no go! Help!

It sounds like your puppy needs to be re trained and eased back in grooming. At this age they can be very sensitive. I would suggest starting from the beginning. You will have groom your dog once a day and start by placing your dog on the grooming table for 1-2 minute with the grooming tools and then when your dog is still still and behaving, then take your dog off. Do this for about a week. Then the next week begin to touch your dogs legs with your hands and run your hands over his face. Once your dog is ok with this, then begin to brush your dogs back, and then slowly down the rest of the body. This will take practice, patience and perseverance. You need to teach your dog to behave when being groomed. If you both can work together, then you will set him up for happy grooming sessions. Grooming should not be a punishment and try not to reward the bad behaviour with cuddles, be strong and reward when his is being good💗 I really hope this helps. I have attached all our puppy videos for you 💗

can you use a cheap plastic comb instead?

Yes, you sure can. You would want to make sure it can go down to the base of the coat and ensure the comb will not break. Let me know how you go💞
