I LOVE Rocky 5. I really don't get the hate at all. Actually I do - It's not about the boxer, it's about the character. There's 2 Rocky fans - The ones who love the fighting, and the ones who love the character.
There are literally dozens of ways that Rocky could have got himself out of dodge financially, if not a fight with the useless Union Kane then writing memoirs, becoming a pundit, having a column in a national newspaper, setting up his own sporting brand (dozens of sponsors would have wanted to jump on the bandwagon of his victory over Drago)... the list goes on and on...
The sponsors thing wouldn't work if you remember earlier in the movie he was talking to those guys earlier and they mentioned that wouldn't work because of his loan sharking he did in the 1st movie.
Could've been a commentator for boxing, could've been an analyst for boxing, could've done commercials, could've become an actor, and honestly that's just the beginning
Still one of my favourite Rocky films. I love that they took it back to Philly. Rocky 4, as much as it had a great cast, training montage(s) and fight, for me it’s the harsh reality of Philly and the rise of the underdog that makes these films special for me. I also love the Elton John signing on the end credits.
Tommy didn't want to listen . Rocky wanted keep him away from the bad out there . unfortunately Tommy Morrison dud same in real life . Sad how bad it went fir him in the end . he was a good boxer could've even been great if he kept his head on straight . wasted talent . funny thing is Creed is actually same thing . he reached out just like Tommy did . fortunately Rocky too old to fight Adonis so they couldn't do that .. but Creed didn't listen either and git butt whipped by Drago Jr. but then gets rematch .
I personally like this movie. It may be the weakest in the rocky series overall, but a weak rocky movie is still a good movie. Plus that street fight at the end is awesome
I like 5.. but I agree it was a bad LAST film, but now that there is a 6 and now 7... 5 does fit the overall structure. But as the last film it would be depressing.
Rocky 5 is a masterpiece, the film has very few fights, but that makes it a dramatic masterpiece, Stallone's remebrance of his mentor in a lone boxing room is iconic
Few fights? Rocky V has more fights than 4. 4 had two (Apollo vs. Dragon and Rocky vs. Drago) with no fight montages. 5 had three (Rocky vs. Tommy, Tommy vs. Cane, Robert vs. Bully) and two fight montages with Tommy.
We Will always Love Rocky!- What a cast..They become part of your soul...Thanks Sly for always bringing it home! Thats how winning is done! You've gotta see Rocky Balboa too.
Well, this is a lot better than Rocky 4 it brings back the charm of rocky and his lifestyle. when rocky comes back from Russia he goes into retirement and hangs up the gloves and goes back home to Philadelphia after Paulie loses their money to a stockbroker, Rocky then renovates Mickey's gym which was left to Robert and reopens it where he meets Tommy Gunn a boxer that seeks out Rocky and wants him to train him. I love this movie it also shows the relationship of Rocky and Robert his son who becomes a major character and how Rocky is putting his son aside for his new protege Tommy. This movie brings back the drama that which made the first three Rocky movies great. This is a really good movie. The acting is great, the story is great, directing is great and so is the music. The best scene is the street fight at the end between Tommy and Rocky. And the flashback scene where Mickey gives Rocky this heartfelt speech was heartbreaking makes you mess the character. If you have not seen this movie then I recommend you do. This movie is Cinematastic rating 5/5
I wanted this movie SO BAD when i was little. This trailer was on my VHS copy of Rocky 4 and I'd watch this over and over in anticipation of getting to watch Rocky 5.
What captivated me as a kid and still to this day was the post Russian episode and how they used Rocky 4 music in this trailer ! Rocky 4 is an icon epic movie. It's just out of this world huge. That was what Rocky was made for...Taking down the ultimate fighter...Drago. Rocky 5 is hard to watch after that monumental fight and victory. Rocky in red white and blue America trunks fists in the air !
This movie is way better than it gets treated n a very real representation of what fighters go thru in every facet..dont see how critics didnt see it that way in 90..dude who played Duke killed his role 😂
Jared Robertson people are just pissed because it’s not a movie where rocky will just train and prepare for a fight and the whole problem was different but they don’t realize u gotta enjoy the movie.
It's just okay. It has it's moments. But Rocky not training for an opponent in the ring was a problem.. And the movie is depressing. Rocky rose from nothing, just to have nothing again. Yes he has his family, but dead broke was depressing..
If Rocky V was a standalone movie, it would've been average. But because it followed Rocky IV, which was absolute 80's over the top cheese and ended the Cold War, stripping the franchise down and taking it back to its roots felt like a big step back. Watching it again in hindsight, it's perfectly acceptable. But it's doomed to be the forgotten movie. The one that Stallone pretends never happened in the canon of the franchise.
I never understood this movie. Just because Paulie signed over power of attorney didn’t mean Rocky had to fight again or anything else. Why didn’t he just fallback on his endorsements?
This trailer is pretty decent. The way this trailer is cut makes it seem like a different film tho. In my opinion #5 was a poor ending to the series, but the film is not bad as a part of a longer legacy. In a way it has a lot more story and raises a lot more serious topics than # 3 & 4 did. The issue of brain damage in boxing, the inevitable decline of every grat athlete, how chasing your own dreams may affect you own family, the greed in the sport industry I actually liked the film more the second time I watched it than the first time.
I remember watching the trailer as a kid never could tell the last fight was outside and not in the ring. I thought that bar scene was just a scuffle. But it did deliver one of the best lines ever (you knock him down why don't you try knocking me down now).
That's actually from the directors cut that is much better and has never been released officially. I have a link to the full film if you want it. Much different and better
I am confused like many I am sure why the Rocky V trailer is using Vince D Cola I don’t think I am spelling his name right,he did the music to Rocky IV and Bill Conti did the music for Rocky V?
I think they knew it was somewhat of a downer movie so they tried to sell it as another Rocky IV where Rocky must overcome a major personal loss (In this case his fortune) and return to glory by defeating the new antagonist, thus winning back his fortune. Of course, that's not what it ended up being.
When I was a kid we always heard a script was coming where rocky was going to die in the ring due to his brain damage from all the previous fights.. and his son was going to be the next champ. So in 5 it did look like Stallone was setting up 6 to be his last movie. So it's like they totally eliminated 5 all together made 6 Without brain injuries. And took a whole new approach to it... Rocky Balboa there is no talk about brain injuries...
There are very few people who are cast perfectly. Talia Shire as Adrianne is one of them. Carl weathers as Apollo is another. We skip years ahead and find Orlando Bloom as Legolas and Sean Astin as Sam gamgee.
This was the start of a decline in great Rocky movies. I did enjoy it, although it did not match the excitement of the former ones. I didn't watch any that came after this because I figured the game was over. Out of the 4 real Rocky movies, number 3 will always be my favorite.

@The Cawd Squad lol as if Hollywood cares about that, Mike Tyson isn't no angel. Rocky V is just a poorly written movie.

It was a complete rip off of Mike Tyson's story. Even Mickey's lines were straight up copied from Cus D Amatos words
This was the first Rocky I ever saw. I don't care what people say, it's my favourite
Rocky V goes back to the beginning, like a cycle where Rocky must start again, this time with his family alongside him.
