In Japan, the issue of senior poverty has become increasingly prominent amidst the backdrop of an aging society and economic challenges. As the population ages and birth rates decline, the strain on the pension system and social support mechanisms has intensified, leaving many elderly citizens vulnerable to financial insecurity.
This video delves into the complex factors contributing to senior poverty in Japan, examining the impact of the low birth rate on the sustainability of pension funds and the broader Japanese economy. We explore how rising housing, food, and utilities expenses have compounded the financial burden on seniors, making it increasingly difficult for them to make ends meet.
Drawing from recent news and government statistics, we shed light on the stark realities faced by elderly individuals in Japan, highlighting the urgent need for policy reforms and social initiatives to address this pressing issue. Join us as we delve into the challenges of senior poverty in Japan and explore potential solutions to support the well-being of the elderly population.

In a culture which supposedly respects its elders, this is especially shameful. Their government needs to make age discrimination illegal. Shame on them.

My local Sheriff's department has retired deputies who will go and check on the elderly. If the elders need social services, food assistance, small home repairs, etc they have volunteers who will help.

Shocking, considering that Japan was on top of the world about 40 years ago.

Shouldn't cleaning after dead at least be subsidized by the government so landlords would stop refusing renting to seniors?

This is the trap that many generations were told to fall into. Seriously.
In the States, we're supposed to work x# of years until it's "time" to retire and then depend on social security to take care of us.
    WRONG!!!!
If you're 55 and under, please listen up!!!
Social security was/is meant to be a backup if things didn't/ aren't going so well for you financially. It was NEVER meant for you to live cushy. And it never will.
If you want to live a decent life when you get older, SAVE NOW! Invest NOW!!! Don't plan on depending on that because it probably won't even be there when it's your time to collect. Either that, or you'll retire, find out how how little that money goes, and are forced to work until you kick the bucket.
Consider this video your wake up call.
