    It may not seem like it at first, but Niujie Baiyuan Tongbei Quan has a lot of grappling and throws mixed in due to the influence of the local Shuaijiao practitioners exchanging with practitioners of the system. Niujie has always been known for its Shuaijiao and Baiyuan Tongbei benefited from that.

      @@MuShinMartialCulture Looking forward to those for sure! By the way, seeing as you practice Bagua yourself, would you happen to know any local practitioners of Ma Gui’s lineage in Beijing? From what I’ve heard there aren’t any left, but seeing as you actually practice I wanted to ask for your knowledge.

    The primary problem with TCMA is the practitioners rarely, if ever, engage in unscripted, non-compliant, hard contact sparring. Practicing a Set is a way of engraining good structure. It needs to be regularly pressure tested in order to transfer to real world. Painful, but, 100% necessary.

    • @MuShinMartialCulture
      @MuShinMartialCulture  3 месяца назад +1

      True, however there are practitioners that do varying degrees of pressure testing.

    This was an excellent episode! I have always loved Tong Bei, especially the Bai Yuan line. There are no qualified Tong Bei sifus near me here in the states, unfortunately. Besides now that I am in my late 50's, and out of shape, I no longer possess the youthful energetic qualities or flexibility this style demands. I would have had to start practicing it no later than my early 30's I think. Thank you for making this informative video and I look forward to the next episodes in this series.

      Hello Sir, do not give up on learning the heart or fundamentals of this style. Although I had been exposed to Tong Bei throughout my martial arts journey, it wasn't until I was older that I really began to train it seriously. I am now 58 and teaching students near my age. They have been able to achieve and develop more than expected from the fundamentals of body alignments, relaxed but connected mechanics and energetics of Tong Bei. Of course having a good instructor goes without saying, but I encourage you to get some material on DVD or video source available from reputable teachers. As you become very familiar with the movements, the opening of the scapula and other mechanics, the benefits will come. It will probably influence what you already know. If you decide to proceed with learning, I advice you to learn from a teacher that has first hand experience and knowledge of the combative side. This style is effective, explosive and brutal. I can say this as a long time instructor of Muay Thai, and other combat sports and traditional arts. Unfortunately, not all Tong Bei teachers have that experience and there is definitely a "fighting tradition" taught within the style that is not commonly taught to everyone. I don't say that as to propagate mysterious teachings, I say it because there is a difference emphasis in training and goal when the focus is combat. I hope you continue with your journey and curiosity 🙏

      @@fullcontactconcepts9239 Wow, thank you for the kind reply and encouraging words. We are the same age! Yes I had purchased a few dvd's back in the day in my early 40's and practiced with them for a short while, but without hands on and in person instruction with a qualified Sifu, I eventually gave up on it to pursue other styles of Kung Fu. The dvd's I was learning from were the one from Strider Clark's Sifu, then I had the Explosive Tong Bei dvd from Sifu Sun Anguang and the 3 dvd set by Sifu Zhao Ya Jun. Best of luck to you and continued success with your training.
