    As a retired professional dog trainer, you might try this: The shock/vibration is suppose to be a instant scare "so to speak" to the dog. Any time you wish to correct the dog with these, it should always be used with a stern "NO!" never using the dogs name. The startle part is what teaches them what "NO" means. No is a negative command and you never use a dogs name with a negative command

      but you dont wanna enforce NO with the stim. thats a bad way to use it you hold the stim on while they do the unwanted behavior then turn it off when they stop. its not used as a NO! you can use it in other ways so by using it as a NO! might as well just use a leash pop. ei: recall you say HERE! for a recall then turn the stim(it should be so low it just feels it ) on till they come then turn it off when they comply. Using it as a NO! would stop them from ever coming to you for the recall

    I have a Mal and with the “no” command it should be the command and if they ignore then command again with the shock. Refocus or redirect to something else but also show that your in control. I’ve used mine on Great Dane and Malinois and gotten good results but we also do a lot of work prior.

      After a couple of instances where she went nuts, and I mean over the top, bucking bronco, Tasmanian Devil kind of nuts, and being hit with the vibration then the shock, she's moderated her reaction to other dogs considerably. This morning when we encountered another dog instead of going crazy she pulled, huffed and snarled but didn't go into full Tasmanian Devil mode. She's also paying more attention to voice commands and the vibration feature of the collar. I think she's figured out that if she doesn't stop after the vibration the shock is coming next. Her behavior is now dipping into a range I'd call "barely acceptable". With any luck I won't need the shock feature again. Knowing what the shock feels like I hated having to do it. But the alternative of letting that behavior continue was not really an option.
      Thanks for watching and commenting!

    Where did you buy this collar from , I have the same problem with my dog right NOW like she is lazy sometimes going out to use the bathroom BUT once she sees a person / person with a dog walking down the street it’s like FULL ZOOMIES ! She really activated but once the person is gone she calms down after about 2mins from the person being gone and the person doesn’t even need to be near her they can be a cross the street walking , or it can be a a person riding a bike , and if a Person is doing a workout just running Down the street .. she is going ballistic & she has a dog friend in our complex he is a much smaller like a pug size dog , I have a pit bull terrier / mix and she is around the same size of your dog in the video .. but over time she tended to get more aggressive she doesn’t see him as often only on walks and the owner & I just use to stop & chat for a little bit with our dogs but I had to stop the whole thing when she stared to get WAYY to aggressive ..when that interaction came about I had pulled her a different way and walked a different way from the dog .. I really hope you reply to this message… because, I’m looking for the best shock collar I can get for her and this was the first video i watched ., so how is it now from 2 months ago when you made this video about your review on this collar it’s self ?

      It still works and I use it every day. Well, I stopped for a week and as soon as she realized that there was no more shock she started her Tasmanian Devil impression again. But one day back on and a couple of good zaps was all it took. Now I just give her the vibration and it's pretty rare for her to go so nuts that the shock is required. I don't know if it's the best shock collar on the market because I've only used this one, but it certainly works good. The link is in the description, but I'll put it below too.

      We're at the point where the collar isn't used much anymore. After the first couple of weeks with the collar I doubt I've had in on her more than a few days. Now I carry an empty paper towel roll and just slap it against my leg to get her attention. But I have little doubt that it was the collar who brought her to the point where something like the sound of a paper towel roll against my leg got her attention. I've been meaning to make a new video to show her current state but keep forgetting. Thanks for reminding me I'll try to get that out in the next week or so. For those who dislike the shock collars I don't know what to say except I don't like them either, but for a dog that behaved the way mine did, and couldn't be trained out of it, then the options are something like the collar, keep them confined for life or wait until they do something totally stupid and then be forced to have them put down. I'll take the collar anytime over the alternatives.

    Wow, ty Chuck. I have a pyrenees with dog aggression issues. My ex husband passed away and I have his dog now. He didn't believe in dog training too much and believed in letting a dog be a dog. His lab is incredibly unruly and my pyrenees is attacking her over it. I'm having hell trying to control 2 dogs at once...
    They have been together 5 years now and due to the stress of a recent move have become very unfriendly with each other. I've been looking for something affordable that worked so I think I'll try the step up from what you got that can be used on two simultaneously. Our grandkids are worried that we will have to give up pawpaws dog or granny's dog... I hate to think of having to rehome either one.... I have a little hope again

    I would offer one suggestion that may help anyone training a young dog. What I noticed directly when you were wearing your camera was that she was already in the "crazy" excited mode before you ever got to the point where you made the correction. The expression "nip it at the bud" applies here. Look at her body language before she ever gets close enough and the excitement gets out of control. Her attention has to be snapped (diverted) well before that behavior begins if you know the signs and you do because you said as much. In your walk you were telling us here she goes again; that would have been the time to tell her with the collar the beep is coming, the vibration, too. The shock is necessary but will become unnecessary after hitting it once or twice IF the behavior is quelled before her ramped up excitement begins. It affords the owner much more control if it's caught (corrected) early. This has been my experience with my German Shepherds.

      A dog trainer on another youtube channel says that when bad behavior occurs the correction has to be greater than the satisfaction the dog gets from the bad behavior. It also has to be swift, short and the dog has to know who it's coming from. He uses ecollars as well as well trained dogs of his own to apply the correction. Most dogs seem to learn pretty fast.

    I feel every minute of this video, we have 2- 9 years olds and they behave just like that and worse, because they also attack each other in the process. If you see them at normal every day life, they are the sweetest things ever but walking them is a nightmare. I have to walk them late night or early morning 3-4 am to avoid conflict with anyone. Anyways, thank you for your video, I can tell this product will not work for me either since I have used similar methods before without good results 😢

      I can only imagine what it's like dealing with two lunatic dogs on a walk at once! My dog does correct the behavior, but only to a degree then over time she slowly gets worse until she's back io full Tasmanian Devil. I've got a product that was just sent to me to review, it's another collar, but it activates when the dog pulls to hard. I'm thinking that will help because it's way to difficult to control the dog and apply correction at the correct moment. I'll have a video up in a week or so. Good luck!

      This is the kind of stupid comment that makes me cry for the future of the human race. Have you ever house trained a dog? I have, many times. And what's really shocking is that I didn't need a professional trainer to do it. Have you ever seen a male dog pee on an electric fence? I have. You know what I've never seen? The same male dog peeing on the fence a second time. You think it took a professional trainer to achieve that? No, the dog said to itself "Wow, that hurt. I guess I better not do that again!", and then proceeded to never do it again. So in closing, let me suggest that you take your brain out of the garage for a test drive and see if it still works.

    There's a good reason why these are banned in certain parts of the world. What you're teaching is sadly a fear response, which although it may provide some results, really is not what you want to be doing.
    As someone with two rescue dogs who's spent a great deal of time trying to learn about dog behaviour to train them I was really struggling to watch the part where you took her out on the lead. She looks like an absolutely fantastic dog and she'll thrive with some appropriate training. I understand your responses to how she's acting from a stress and frustration point of view, but they're really not helping.
    If you're against paying a professional trainer to help you to train her correctly in a positive manner, try a Beaphor Gentle Leader and some high value treats instead. Reward the positive, do not punish the negative.

    • @3rdpig
      @3rdpig  11 месяцев назад +14

      Thanks for your comment and suggestions.
      I have to say a couple of things here. First, I don't give a rat's backside what governments ban. Politicians ban whatever they think will earn them votes and donations. I've watched their stupidity for decades and I've been unimpressed. I've watched them push for bans on things they didn't even know what was. As a group, they're a pack of self serving idiots.
      Second, I've had multiple rescue dogs since I was a kid and while this isn't the first dog I've had with bad behaviors, this one particular bad behavior is so over the top that nothing else I've tried has worked. The rescue home we got her from had her for months and had trainers that tried to stop this behavior and failed. My first few weeks with her I've tried to stop, or even moderate, this behavior and failed. She had been adopted twice and brought back because the owner couldn't control that behavior.
      At the vet they had to put us into a room right away because she was disrupting all the other animals in the waiting area. The vet sent us home with Zyklene to moderate her anxiety and it hasn't worked. What you saw in the video is mild compared to what she was like when I got her. She's an absolute angel in the house and yard, it's only on the leash when she sees other dogs that she turns into the devil incarnate. A bucking bronc in a rodeo has nothing on her. She ignores everything in her attempts to get to the other dog, for what purpose I don't know, but it's absolute and no commands or treats could break it.
      I've got a friend who's had her latest rescue for several years and it displays a similar behavior to leashed dogs. She's spent thousands on multiple trainers and they haven't even moderated it, much less stopped it.
      Fortunately in my case, the collar has had good results. The shock was only necessary for the first couple of days and I only used it after giving "NO!" commands and after using both the beep and the vibration first. Not only has the bad behavior lessened considerably, but she's responding to both voice commands and the vibration of the collar and now she will back off when I say "NO!" and take treats, that just wasn't going to happen before.
      Thanks again for your comments!

    • @mowcius
      @mowcius 11 месяцев назад +1

      @@3rdpig, the ban on such collars came due to pushing from animal behavoural experts, not really anything to do with the governments.
      One of our rescues used to respond almost identically to leashed dogs so I understand the situation entirely. For weeks we struggled to walk down the road unless I was certain there wouldn't be any dogs within eyesight.
      Sadly whether you're getting results with the collar or not, it's still a fear response and will likely cause other issues.
      In the walking you showed she exhibited very little in the way of "bad" behaviour, despite telling her no on multiple occasions for totally understandable movements and actions.
      Please try a gentle leader or other face harness and never use the shock collar again. All of the actions and lunging shown in the video would have stopped immediately without any kind of punishment had she had one on at the time. They *very* quickly learn that lunging equals being turned back around by their face, and it takes the force off the body which can exacerbate their response.
      Many trainers would really advise against the general use of the word no as well, as it's also almost always associated with something negative which dogs genuinely don't respond well to.

      @@wildpinto3291 Agree! Sometimes you must pull out all the tricks to save the dog from themselves. If used responsibly as a tool, and not long term, it can have fantastic results in helping a strong-willed dog turn the corner and focus on voice commands. We've rescued huskies and husky shepherd mixes, all mistreated by horrible humans, our goal is to create a solid pack mentality with clear expectations, and sometimes the dog needs a clear, strong realignment. Gentle leads, high-value treats, and a strong alpha presence don't always guarantee a desired response. This is exceptionally VITAL when rattlesnake training or desensitizing for the safety of smaller animals due to a high prey drive.
