Conditions: Dam generators running 2 units.. 11am @ 74F with few clouds.. ~5mph N wind
Tackle:
Me - 10'6 St Croix Legend Surf + Penn Slammer III 4500
30lb PowerPro Braid + 5 wire umbrella rig
Dad - 12' St Croix Avid Carp + Penn Slammer III 4500
30lb PowerPro Braid + 3 wire umbrella
It's ridiculous how I have never seen anyone release a fish from keystone or any other body of water by there besides me. You should seed the looks I get from the old dudes when I let my fish go.

Oh man this brings back good memories. Have fished Keystone Dam my whole life. 15 min before sunset they go nuts. Turbine side, drift a white and red bucktail jig above a 2 or 3 oz lead. Throw at the end of the wing wall and hold on. Just keep it off the bottom and always tie a break knot between the jig and weight.
They are opening up the floodgates today and releasing a record amount of water. This should be a treat to see😀☔☔☔
I watched this video many times and hoping to fish here. Guess what, I went on the summer of 2019. This place is unbelievable. Never in my life I’ve seen a strippers so big and so fat! The girth is around 22”. No kidding! Some of the guys were snagging some paddlefish. Theyre huge!!! You can see them swim against the current. My advice is, bring some serious gear like 12ft pole or longer. Use a 4 oz sinker if you are on for bottom fishing. You can try this technique he used in this video when the water is clear. But man, I’m coming back again this 2020. Its only 2 hours drive. Great video man. Thanks for posting.
Looks like fun, I'm in Washington state and stuck fishing for salmon, crazy fun when kings and silvers are all in the same water. Kings are strong and silvers are acrobats

Not sure I'd say the beauty of umbrella fishing..Seems like casting that set up is just more of a pain in the ass as you said yourself basically lol..i doubt you'll catch more than one on this rig at once anyways maybe two...only benefit I can see is to see the preferred color they want...this a better rig for vertical fishing in my opinion..but good job none the less
When they on bait a rigs crush. Multiple bass r very common.
Use a flipping stik n keep it simple
@Austin Santos I imagine catching 4 at a time would be neat however doesn't make it any less of a pain lol but still most of the time I bet it's 1 to 2 at a time more than anything.

Yep, that umbrella seems like nothing but a PIA. I would just throw a simple lure and teaser setup, probably catch just as many if not more due to more time fishing.

@@user-rp1ub9rp5o I didn't realize they changed law , you are correct before was 28 inch for size and you could take 2 fish then I was told it went to 32 inch and take 2 fish and now said 28 and take only 1 fish for day that what I read when I checked online if I'm wrong let me know soon I be fishing last thing I want is getting a citation .
Why are people complaining about the size fish? They are pretty big hybrids. You should complain if the fish is to big and he is keeping it. 🤦

5 casts in 12 minutes real time. I wouldn't fish with that rig for nothing. I could have caught those fish and cast 30 times in that 12 minutes. We fish below the dam at Texoma and though this looks like a better place to fish from Texoma isn't near as wide. There are big fish in both though.

I catch fish like that too at the aquaduct in ca, they have to be at least 18 inch. Limits 2 only. Unless u at lakes where u can keep 10 each anysize. But theres only so many lakes and they are hrs hrs away

To stop the line tangle like on his first cast. Make ur bends on the arms of the arig about 1/2"-1" away from the head of the arig. Dont bend the arms right behind the head of the arig.
Catch and release . Let the smaller ones go . When you go fishing you don't always need to keep them all . Just the simple fact of let them reproduce.

They look like the stripers we catch here on the east coast?
Not all inland stripers are hybrids. Some are however. Striped bass are anadromous and spawn in freshwater naturally. That's how they survive being stocked in lakes.
Hybrid stripers are a cross breed between the striped bass and the white bass

Na. Just make the bends of the arms up to am inch away from the head. When u bend the arms right behind the head u get those tangles.

I'm trying to decide on my first surf rod/reel. I want to get something nice. Thinking a penn slammer 4 4500, and not sure on which rod. What do you suggest?
I like the penn reels, they feel really solid. As far as rods.. it really depends on what you’re wanting to throw.. TFO and Shimano makes some pretty nice and affordable surf rods.. I myself own a TFO and 2 Shimano Tiralejo surf rods.
@@tsheeschan It’s primarily for dam/river striper fishing. I’m not sure on rod length/action. Also do you think 4500 reel will be too heavy for this?

It gets Tangled because he lets it tumble with the current when it hits the water, instead of pulling it straight as soon as it hits

Have to check the field guide to be sure, but I believe it's 14 or 15"
Eat as many strippers as you want! When your eating them be sure to look for nasty stuff first. Not sure on the striper limit though!👊🏻👍🇺🇸

I guess no measurement at just keep everything or they have no size limit cuz where we live at it’s gotta be 21” and the fishes are like 5lbs and up nothing lower especially when they are fat.

I went there and got snagged every cast. Literally every cast, me and my brother wasted Atleast $30 of equipment and wasted about a tot of 11 setups. Please guys tell me how to not get snagged here because this is ridiculous
Before the big Oklahoma flood Lake Keystone used to generate 2 turbines pushing out 12000CFS making it deeper and flow faster.. now they just release 5500-6500CFS so you have to find holes that suits your style of fishing
