I know not everyone has this, but that's what's beautiful about this show. A neighbor or a foster parent can be a true father. When ling and his dad went to the doctor and the doctor recommended him to go and see a psychiatrist we can all relate because our Asians parents do not believe mental health matters . It's sad even educated ones ignore that mental health is important just like physical health

The father was very clear that he wanted his son to get treatment to get better, and if that meant going to western head doctor that is okay if absolutely necessary. But Dad is also aware of the stigma related to that type of help and wants to spare his son the added suffering, which is why he also told his son not to tell others about it, then he clarified to let his son know that he could tell those that cared about him the most: Dad Ling, Dad Li, brother He, and "sister" Li. If he really did need psychological help in the future I can image that all of them would crowd into the doctor's office with him.
That poor boy's relationship with his mother is absolutely toxic, and it is a shame that the ethical and societal push to force this young man into a position to get psychologically tortured for nine years, and that is after what he experienced as a kid. The mistake is that the dad should have cut all ties with his ex-wife's family to begin with as the perpetuated the toxic connections. Next, he should not have let his son go to another country after his mother had the accident if he could not go, because he knew how manipulative his ex-wife's family was, and it is unreasonable to let a teenager make those kinds of decisions. If absolutely necessary the mother should have been transferred to her son's country for treatment, the little sister should have gone with the grandparents of her father. Why does he have to take care of both of them? He has less than 6 months of interaction with his sister. By transferring the mother to her son's country he would have had more support and may not have developed such a severe form of mental illness. Also, why in the hell, is a rich woman not hire medical help at home for her recovery why does the son have to do everything for her?

Ling xiao's needed treatment from the beginning when she lost her daughter and become abusive towards her son. Unresolved guilt and on top of it bedridden like a vegetable made her feel helpless and more traumatized her adult but introvert and already abused son. This episode gives a glimpse of human mental suffering.
seriously, it hit me to the core seeing ling xiao having to endure her behavior and the draining stress of the situation. i don’t see how his father don’t recognize after everything him and his son went through, he would need serious psychological therapy. plus, ling xiao seems to be emotionally dependent on li jian jian.

Exactly since previous episode, I m holding a grudge against these two, we knew from the start that she has an Inclination towards lingxiao but the way they handled it and just started going out openly right away .. while ziqui is pretending to be OK but is in so much pain..he deserves to be told that he is enough and he is loved 😢

I am with you bro. I feel extreme empathy towards ling xiao. I can literally feel his pain and loneliness. My chest gets heavy and I've cried uncontrollable at every one of his traumatic episodes. I can even relate to him at a level and many people don't realise how much sufferings his life has been through. It's true that ziqui's life is extremely traumatic too. But very less people understand that ling xiao has been scarred and wounded way more than anyone in this drama. I know how dark it is in that place
A good episode to show what Ling Xiao went through in Singapore. He was only 18 years old when he had to take care of his mom and little sis. His mom should have receive help for her mental illness right at the start when her first daughter passed away. That's the problem in Asian society, we are unaware or pushed aside mental illness when it can be worse than physical illness. I read comments here asking why there's less sympathy for Ling Xiao vs Ziqui. I do agree that Ling Xiao possibly suffered even more as it was a constant mental torture in Singapore and his childhood trauma of his sister's death. Ziqui also suffered in his own way, differently. Personally, I think i have more sympathy and feelings for Ziqui due to Steven Zhang's great acting. Song Wei Long is very good looking but his portrayal of Ling Xiao's pain did not come through as clearly and possibly did not evoke strong feelings from part of the audience (incl myself).
The doctor’s visit made me realise again how bad psychiatry and psychology looks in the eyes of asians. As a psychology student aiming for clinical I’m depressed hearing about what the police dad said.

Ling xiao's needed treatment from the beginning when she lost her daughter and become abusive towards her son. Unresolved guilt and on top of it bedridden like a vegetable made her feel helpless and more traumatized her adult but introvert and already abused son. This episode gives a glimpse of human mental suffering.
seriously, it hit me to the core seeing ling xiao having to endure her behavior and the draining stress of the situation. i don’t see how his father don’t recognize after everything him and his son went through, he would need serious psychological therapy. plus, ling xiao seems to be emotionally dependent on li jian jian.

I am with you bro. I feel extreme empathy towards ling xiao. I can literally feel his pain and loneliness. My chest gets heavy and I've cried uncontrollable at every one of his traumatic episodes. I can even relate to him at a level and many people don't realise how much sufferings his life has been through. It's true that ziqui's life is extremely traumatic too. But very less people understand that ling xiao has been scarred and wounded way more than anyone in this drama. I know how dark it is in that place
A good episode to show what Ling Xiao went through in Singapore. He was only 18 years old when he had to take care of his mom and little sis. His mom should have receive help for her mental illness right at the start when her first daughter passed away. That's the problem in Asian society, we are unaware or pushed aside mental illness when it can be worse than physical illness. I read comments here asking why there's less sympathy for Ling Xiao vs Ziqui. I do agree that Ling Xiao possibly suffered even more as it was a constant mental torture in Singapore and his childhood trauma of his sister's death. Ziqui also suffered in his own way, differently. Personally, I think i have more sympathy and feelings for Ziqui due to Steven Zhang's great acting. Song Wei Long is very good looking but his portrayal of Ling Xiao's pain did not come through as clearly and possibly did not evoke strong feelings from part of the audience (incl myself).
