    I wouldn’t give the haters any thought when it comes to their opinions on shopping. They obviously don’t know what it’s like living the struggle. What I love about this video is the same thing that I have loved on all of your videos. It’s your way of taking these humble ingredients that some people will turn their nose up at and turning them into actual meals that taste good and anyone would be proud of. A single mother may take these ideas and give her kids their first true thanksgiving meal because you showed that it’s possible. Thank you for the care and compassion you put into every video!!

    You made a meal that anyone would be thankful to eat!!! It looks like a fancy, expensive restaurant meal. You just taught people who can't afford a lot or a small family that doesn't want a lot, how to make a delicious meal ❤❤❤❤❤ My family of 3 are living in a pop-up camper right now. We have an electric skillet to cook our meals. I watch your videos and others also to help figure our meals. Thank you and I hope you have a blessed Thanksgiving 🙏

    When we were young and just starting out we had no car, no money, no help. We walked everywhere including work and to grocery shop. Poverty was exhausting! We lived in a food desert and often walked to the local mom and pop convience store. Selection was low and prices were high. This kind of creativity would have worth millions to us! Keep doing what you do. We have all of those things now but still make some of your recipes lol

      We were in the same boat years ago. 3 small kids-no money and zero help. We did have a car but we considered it a really good day if it actually started😂😂I learned how to make a meal out of what looked like nothing. We are far from that now but I still budget shop and watch these videos because I refuse to spend the money I see friends spending on groceries. Everyone is complaining about grocery prices but my grocery bill hasn’t changed much because I still cook creatively and mostly from scratch. I really believe that money struggles teach you valuable lessons that you never forget.

    • @ThatLisaDawn
      @ThatLisaDawn  Месяц назад +36

      Thank you! 💙 I think it's often not even trolls (though sometimes it definitely is lol), just people who don't know what they don't know. The idea of the nearest grocery store being a 45 minute drive away, or only being able to access stores that you can walk to, or even just the real vs tv experience of poverty itself is just so completely outside the experience of a lot of people that "why wouldn't you just shop at a normal grocery store" is the obvious well meaning alternative to them.
      Also, I love that you can raise your own meat! I definitely hope to be able to do that someday! Andrew is from upstate NY, it's a beautiful part of the country!

    Second comment. I made a great cheap stuffing during university and still use this recipe today (only I do add more mushrooms etc now) So shred up any stale bread(Walmart near me has 44c day old baguettes) In a pan fry a chopped onion and a few fresh mushrooms in oil. I add the bread to the pain ..then add any seasonings I want (garlic,black pepper,paprika and poultry seasoning) Throw in a couple tablespoons of margarine . Combine chicken bouillon in two cups of water to your taste…pop that fried bread onion mushroom mixture in a baking pan and pour the liquid over it…and bake.Average cost 2 bucks Canadian if that!

    Here’s an idea if you don’t have money for produce and you already have your hot vegetable sides like the corn casserole, green beans casserole already done and want a cold veggie, use canned pickled beets and serve that as a cold salad with artichoke hearts or cold vegetable succotash or mixed vegetables with olive oil, balsamic vinegar, garlic powder and black pepper…they are good really cold if you can get kids to eat a bite but most kids may not enjoy it but adults probably can get a little more veggies into their meal that way. I’m definitely a meat/potatoes girl but that’s how I round out dinner sometimes.

    My grandma used to shop at dollar tree, she didn’t have access to the standard grocery store where she lived outside of Seattle. A lot of great options and affordable, especially on a fixed income. It changes seasonally and I especially appreciate the cleaning supplies, it’s a good thing we have access to. We don’t know what to expect with our economy and there’s no shame in going to food banks or other resources available. Food in our tummy is priority, especially cold weather, and there’s a lot of great options 😊

    May give that cranberry cake a try, but make it gluten free. And everything looked really yummy. Can't wait for the next one.

    Lisa, it's always wonderful to see you have a new video. Thank you so much for your efforts. Please, NEVER let the negative, or misinformed comments discourage you. You are a joy to watch, you have some great ideas and hacks. Those of us who continue to enjoy your videos know we can always substitute fresh or better value foods, should we be able to afford and/or have the means to obtain those foods. Please don't change your interest, style, advice, etc. Unfortunately, there are many people in "food deserts ", without cars who truly have to live with the kind of limits you show. ❤

    This was a great video. You rolled with changing plans and that is important. Thanksgiving isn't supposed to be about a showy meal but about gathering what we have available to share nourishment and good times with friends and family.

    Yes Lisa don't you worry about those negative people. Those are people that put negative crap out no matter what they're never ever happy and they find fault with everything and everyone. What a miserable life they lead. Your videos are entertaining they are informative you have a great personality I love watching them and it hurts me that people talk to you like that. I hope you can let it roll off your back like a duck. I wish there was a way you could just block those kind of people and don't even waste your time answering them. Keep up these great videos because we love them

    Your videos are so well made. I’ve been watching you for a few years now. We live in pricey Southern California. Your video shows that with a little money you can make a beautiful feast. Also, you are right on the eggs. A dozen here goes for about $3 to 4 dollars a dozen. Looking forward to your next video-thanks again.
