Thank you Dave for reviewing this saw. I can appreciate that this saw is well made in terms of quality of construction but it floors me how expensive lapidary saws are. Maybe I’m a cheap person and it takes me 40 hours of labour to buy one of these. I bought a Cabking after saving for about two years but it has been very consistent.
Michael Germaine I feel really bad for abusing this all by leaving it out in the snow the table only got damaged for me leaving water on the Saul after I use it and then it freezes I didn’t think much of anything when it was happening I would just pour some hot water on it and it would free up the Arbor and let me cut over a sheet of ice on the table but then one day I came out and it totally cracked and was lifted about an inch I had some footage of the damage saw table before I gave it to my grandpa to get fixed but I lost the footage I was actually quite embarrassed to reach out to Highland Park to ask them to buy another table I probably should not have been embarrassed because they probably would’ve like to know that goofballs like me are leaving the Saul out in the snow and this can even happen the old Highland park saws might have been made out of steel or even something casted like iron or the new ones are aluminum at least the table is so maybe this has something to do with it either way it was my fault and you are right about the smaller blades being safer even though I have never had an accident outside of making a finger nail on the diamond blade one can totally cut their finger on a diamond lapidary saw blade I thought it was next to impossible but I had a student of mine manage to slice his finger on the Highland Park saw he must’ve been pressing really hard to work faster and just wedged it in there the right way to sliced his finger open so it does happen Anyway thank you so much for watching him for commenting I’m sorry for the mile long response

It’s totally my pleasure my friend I love this song too it is my favorite 6 inch trim saw however bang for the buck there are some 8 inch trim size that might be a better deal however when it comes to 6 inch trim saw this is my favorite I will be making a video on my all-time favorite trim saw which is a 10” Lortone

Long story short I would say yes I do believe in Crystal Medicine I do not know if it is a energy or if it’s a chemical thing but I have definitely felt many different ways from working with gemstones over the years some good and some bad I believe a lot of what the ancients took time to write about and don’t take it for granted sometimes I have work stones that have really creeped me out for no particular reason I have also worked stones that have made me feel high I believe a lot of what the ancients took time to write about and don’t take it for granted sometimes I have work stones that have really creeped me out for no particular reason I have also worked stones that have made me feel high Is the chemicals inside of the stone that I am ingesting on a micro and macro level that’s making me feel these ways or is it an energetic field I really don’t know There are definitely some stones that chemically have minerals and chemicals that can influence the body in Similar ways that are described in there metaphysical properties for instance lepidolite is chocked full of lithium and if you read the metaphysical properties it sure seems like the benefits are similar to that with lithium can do for a person I used to feel a lot more “Crystal medicine” when I first started working as a lapidary for my grandfather and I imagine now I feel less because I’m so oversaturated from working with so many different stones I live in a town where a lot of people are into spirituality ceremony and such and I am kind of surrounded by the idea 24/7 and I am always around folks who swear that Crystal medicine is real I could go on and on but I do believe for sure just not 100% sure why it works the way it does and I’m not sure if it is a energy more than it is a chemical thing but really what is the difference :)

Most of the small blades are solid. Go to the highland park site they have RUclips videos on all their equipment including saw blades and how to sharpen them. They have heavy duty and stronger equipment than u can buy from most and it will last longer if u stay in the hobby and cheaper.
Hello there my friend I am sorry I do not know what type of Saul Blade this is I have worn out the sides to the bone and there are no identifying marks however you can call Highland Park and ask them what kind of sauce comes on their model six trim Saul if you do please let them know you saw the video they are good friends of mine this saw blade is actually pretty odd it looks like it’s two sellers sawblades soldered together it works really well and has lasted tons of abuse I don’t Think they put their highest and saw blades on their model six so I could imagine it being under $30 thanks so much for watching my friend I really appreciate it
Does this have a slide tray to hold the stones in place . I noticed that you tend to lean left a little bit witch shows the product is not being cut stright
Ryan FP Thank you so much for watching my friend no the blade is not centered it is actually quite an odd blade and I should’ve mentioned it in the video the blade that came with the saw is a little bit thicker than I normally use for cutting precious materials but it’s great for hogging out big stuff it actually looks like two thinner blades welded together it has definitely lasted a long time and I have never attempted to dress the blade or anything I imagine it is one of Highland parks more affordable Blades but I really do not know
Hi Dave. The machine looks good but was it more of a testament to a good sharp cutting blade? Does it come with a sliding guide or at least a guide to assist with even thickness cutting. I know its a trim saw but, with a build like that it could be so much more. No criticism. I would love to own one. Another great video Dave! Regards Mal
malcolmsplace Good question my friend I should’ve mentioned more of how the machine felt then how easy it was to cut the machine is super nice and does not bog down cutting larger pieces like some of my other saws do while I cut stones that are pushing the size limits of this machine I probably also should’ve talked more about how easy it is to clean without removing the table and some other things but I was kind of just working with the footage that I reported over a year ago the sawblade is actually quite cheap I definitely think it’s a generic and it almost seems like it’s too saw blades soldered together It’s pretty odd and I’ve never seen anything like it I will have to make a two-year update on this video explaining more about the machine and the blade surviving thank you so much for watching and thank you so much for your comment it definitely helps me to make better videos
definitely they’re all over the Internet just type in Lapidary trim service. Essentially you’re just drilling two holes to the table and it’s a sliding vase. I think Lortone make some.
gabriela e perez If I’m not mistaken the first place that I use in the beginning of the video is the original blade that came with the Highland Park machine and I believe the second part of the video after I beat it up over the year is a Johnson brothers 6 inch blade that I got from johnsonbrotherslapidary.com I buy a couple Johnson brothers blades at one time so that they are very cheap I think I get three for like 18 bucks after shipping

J S I was not using an notched blade it was a continuous rim diamond blade that came with the saw I don’t use notch blades on machines that I use my hands to maneuver the stones :) Thank you so much for watching my friend I really appreciate it

Skin Shrimp Very cool I know kobolt is a great brand I have an use them but I have heard great things about them and I have never added anything to my water while cutting but that is an absolutely great idea I know diamond Pacific has some kind of lubricant for their wheels I have never use the lubricant but I know it helps their diamonds on the wheel so I imagine it would help on the blade however I have use soapy water wow polishing using diamond lapidary wheels so I imagine it would work fantastically on a saw I will definitely be giving this a try
Skin Shrimp switching to oil and using a quality blade such as an ultra thin from Highland Park will leave cuts so beautiful the cuts already look polished. Oil is messy, you can buy a gallon for about $10, well worth it!

Skin Shrimp My friend you can definitely find the sauce secondhand I highly suggest the Buena Vista gem and mineral show Quartzsite gem show and the Tucson gem show particularly the miners-co-op For buying use the saws about three or four years ago I bought a 12 inch lortone Auto feed slabs off for $300 and the gentleman had larger ones for 400 and $500 one of which was a Highland Park I did not see the gentleman there for the last two or three years so I don’t even know if he still around but those deals can definitely be had if you can’t make it to those Jem shows then try to find someone that is going that you can trust to help you get the saw if anything I can help you get that Saw of your dreams my friend
If you decide to go back to oil I seen another leopard Derek person use vegetable oil in a 10 inch slab saw price vegetable oil it's cheaper easier to clean cry it out I'd like to see it have a blessed day and stay safe
If a person is old like me 74. They remember people loosing their shop because they used diesel or white gas (kerosene). The problem was heat and combustible cutters above. They now have a mineral oil that won't kill u from vapors or flash point combustion. I find it cheap at 35 dollars for 5 five gallons. It would last a small shop a couple of years
@@michaelgermaine6117 the problem with mineral oil you go to a drug store and you can buy it by the gallon cheap. Lapidary stores found this out and date want to charge ridiculous amounts of money because it's for lapidary. If you were in a small town and the closest lapidary shop is 100 miles away but the local grocery shop is 5 miles away and you could use vegetable oil which is cheap what would you do. PS I am 66 years old and I know about diesel in white fuel thank you for your comment very valuable for the up-and-coming lapidary artist have a blessed day

You really beat that table up in one year. I still have my old saw and blade purchased 1971. I'm old but still cutting. Great video.
Forgot to mention that the smaller blades are solids for safety. I dont think the industry wants u to loose finger parts. And probably quit lapidary.

Beautiful piece of equipment! Dave can you identify a vintage drop saw? It has a hydraulic mechanism to slowly drop the blade.
Unfortunately, probably not. I don’t know much about drops saws I do. Enjoy them though.
