There have been many gay black men before him who were not football players but student s at HBCU shunned or given less attention for being gay and academically smart with the feminine swag and pink hair of expression in being gay. I can't applaud this because it's a on Tamron Hall show. Just my "real" opinion.

Do you make this statement because he's white, because he is older, because he is not who you would have chosen for the young man? What about what and who makes him happy? What about what his preferences are? Because they don't align with yours you have to criticize him? To ease your pain there many attractive and intelligent black men who date inside the race, but again it's a preference and what they want for themselves. Everyone has that freedom and that right. I'm not surprised because we can be very judgmental. We do it for everyone. "She can do better than him", "He can do better than her". That's even when both people are black. We find things to criticize instead of just celebrating someone's happiness. Do you realize that your words could be very hurtful if he actually read them? Probably not, because you only care that you express your disappointment for what someone else wants because you feel some kind of way about it. Very sad.

I will say we, black people, are consistent. We do it with straight folks on a routine basis. "Why is she with him, she can do better" and "Why is he with her he can do better". These are comments made even if both people are black. We just find something to critique or comment on. It's not for anyone to understand except the people in the relationship.

Not only do we have to deal with attacks from the Caucasian culture, but also from a culture that has experienced racism, knows that uncomfortable feeling all too well, and has now found another culture to align with to spread the same hate.

White women did it in the '20s, Jews have done it pretending to be pro black but were inserting their causes into our movement on the sly, white Progressives recently tried to get blacks to speak out for Mexican immigration of all things while we were being shot by cops running in the opposite direction, and now LGBTs??? I just want everyone to stop using black's platforms as a springboard for their own.

He IS the first openly gay man to come out as a football player at an HBCU. That isn't easy or common within the majority of primarily Black families. Including my own. My brother didn't play football but our parents never accepted his "life style" as they referred to my brother's life. He spent his 20s after FSU and his early 30s living apart from our family. We lost a lot of time together as a family. Now he's gone and our parents are gone. I wished my parents were more tolerate and accepting like this man's mother. Best of luck to him. He will be okay.
