  • Bosch are well known for their Multi-Tool and the latest brushless unit is sensational. The first of their starlock does not disappoint !
    Multitools have come a long way in practical uses as the blade and attachmnet market builds. I would call them a genuine reno tool instead of a 'get out of jail free' tool. The GOP18V-28 is a very tidy tool with the absolute convenience of the tool-less blade change.

    *The 3 speed is good **MyBest.Tools** trying to keep to a low speed for a long time with just the trigger is hard.The only negative is I keep bumping the on/off switch when changing blades, not dangerous but annoying.*

    Great video as usual, thank you guys ! I own the corded version in its "Green Bosch" flavour (not a starlock plus) and I like it, it's a good piece of equipment. But now after seeing your review, I will seriously consider getting the GOP 18V-28 cordless version, I can see loads of advantages to it, be it in the shop or in the field. Thanks again ;-)

      [dwain] thanks jean-marc. i did exactly the same thing. Used to have the bosch green one, then got the cordless (non-starlock) unit.

    I have the older GOP-18 V-EC and agree 100% its a beast of a multitool. Best on market for sure. Used to until the new one anyways :D

      I agree. But disappointed after sanding plasterboard for an hour straight and the locking mechanism no longer clamped all the way back. And the vibrations damaged the plastic lugs on the battery. Other than that, cuts like a chainsaw

    Don't worry mate took me 15 minutes to figure out the putting the blade on the first time on the starlock. Great system though. Love it. Only problem is the price of the blades. Hopefully they come down as other companies start to produce the starlock compatible blades

    Hi, I am looking in getting that cordless tool soon. I noticed that you guys have a different type of battery. Can you share the link where to get them? Cheers!

    Ahh, the old chippys 'get out of jail free card', we mainly pull them out when we need to get out of a jam (or cut a jamb *ba dum tsssh*). What I would really like to see locally though is the Bosch 12V range, the GOP 12V-28 looks like an absolute stonker. You don't need massive batteries on these things the way we use them, and if you're going to use it that much, you might as well get a corded one. The 12V range available in the UK is unreal, they have a lot of awesome brushless subcompact things (which I'll be importing soon, initially the GLL 3-80CGGD, GOP 12V-28 , GHO 12 V-20, GKF 12 V-8, GRO 12 V-35 to name a few). Professionals don't want to carry around heavy, lumbering bits of kit, especially when working overhead (which you find yourself doing a lot with multitools). It's ok for your weekend warrior that use them for half ours spurts, and who wants to talk about the specs of the newest and best tool they just got with their mates while sipping craft beer at the local gastro pub. We would rather have lights tools that feel good in the hand, like my new makita subcompact drill, that things is awesome for pre drilling decks, the full size can get pretty heavy after a few thousand holes. With battery technology improving, I would rather see higher amp hour slims. If Makita can make a 6AH full size, I can't see why they can't make a 3AH slim. Keep up the good work blokes!

      [Dwain] I'm also skeptical of a 12V (10.8V) multi-tool having enough power for many tasks.

      Bosch 12V is amazing. Intresting thing to note about batteries. AEG have a 4Ah 12v, so no reason why it cant be done.

    • @kyzenlanx
      @kyzenlanx 6 лет назад

      The Bosch are up to 2.5AH I think in the round 12V, they do make a 4AH, but it has a square base. I would rather space and weight saving over storage for the small minimal use tools. I can't wait to try their mini buzzer. When you just need to back off a door, buzz a bit of skirt to fit a floor, think it's going to be great.

    Looks like a decent bit of kit. Only ever used a cheap corded one and made more smoke than chips. Also the thing vibrated more than whatever my wife keeps in her bedside table so I couldn't use it for more than 10 mins. How does the cordless feel in the hand, it looks quite chunky?

    • @OZToolTalk
      @OZToolTalk  6 лет назад +1

      Henry Thomas It has vibration but not over the top at all.
      You need to understand that the blades made a huge difference as well. (Mike)

    The most important advantage of Starlock is not just the fast tool-change; Starlock is mainly about the 3D fixation of the tool. This 3D fixation increases the tool-effectiveness up to 30% (measured in time needed to finish a task)

    • @OZToolTalk
      @OZToolTalk  6 лет назад

      [DWain] yeah, which is why it surprised us that it had less power than the previous model!

    • @escriba1579
      @escriba1579 6 лет назад

      Thank you for your reply! Yes, that' really surprising!
      As you know there are two types of tool-fixing for 3D-starlock tools: The usable click-system and the less usable version with a hexagon wrench. I wonder if the ordinary, boring (but really firm) hexagonal key is better than the practical click-technique. It wouldn't be the first time a development has made a good thing worse :) Do you know something about the effectivness of the former fixation technique? ... Theoretically the 3D technique should be much better, believe me. ;)

    That is exactly how I have used an oscillating tool recently, by removing rotten bottom parts of furring strips against a foundation wall.

      i haven't used the Dewalt. but i'd have a strong preference for Starlock over a proprietary system only used by one brand.

  • @HoutmeyersP

    I never buy battery powered tools....they become very expensive if the battery decides to die and you need to buy a replacement battery. For the price you pay for the battery powered GOP 18-28 and one replacement battery(it does not last a lifetime if used often) you could buy 2 GOP 55-36

    • @OZToolTalk
      @OZToolTalk  3 года назад +1

      The GOP 55-36 is an amazing tool, it is my go-to OMT. But there are downsides to corded tools too.

  • @chrislaarman7532
    @chrislaarman7532 3 года назад

    Unlike Escriba commented, Starlock is ONLY about the fixation. Proof: your GOP 18V-EC does have the quick change (but not Starlock), my new GOP 12V-28 does have (standard) Starlock but not the fast tool-change. It requires that Allen key. (I also have both tools you demonstrated. I wanted a lighter device for jobs where weight is more important than power.)

    I superlike its tool change mechanism, BUT its so bulky. Beats the whole purpose as mostly I use such a tool in tight spaces.
