    Did a play through of the last Karling with the ambition to build up Valois and become king of France, after that manage to be voted on as the Kaiser of the HRE, and ended up ruling of most of Europe with one of my son in line to become emperor of the Byzantine empire!

    I've been wanting to do a Folques of Anjou playthrough just to see if I can fulfill his line's destiny and get that sweet sweet Lionheart title. Previously did the last Karling as well which was a fun playthrough that started out pretty stressful due to everyone ending up liking the king of France and not backing me in independence. I ended up gaining the achievement for them by having the highest contribution in a crusade for the Daneland and swapping to the new king of Catholic Daneland. We then successfully gained Egypt and Jerusalem in separate crusades for a very fun game.

    Started as Duke of Anjou 867. Went all in on Burgundy and granted Duchy of Anjou to my brother. Eventually formed the Kingdom of Burgundy and then invaded West Francia. By mid 11th century, Burgundy occupied all the lands west of HRE, and I was deciding whether I'd prefer to eat Iberia, Ireland or England.

    Thank you for these guides, I enjoy especially the historical info. :D
    My only game in France so far was as Count Eudes of Anjou in 876 because I wanted to get that Starting as Eudes, become King" achievement. I re-loaded the initial character traits of Eudes a couple of times prior to starting the game until I got good intrigue skills. Took a bit of a risk and chose a high-intrigue courtier somewhere in Northern France as my tutor and got a very good intirgue education. A couple of small wars until Eudes was grown up and then the full-on murder and kidnapping spree began. Managed to grab the Duchy of Anjou and the surrounding lands very fast and actually even make Eudes King of France (or rather West Francia?) within a lifetime! After that I did not continue though since I mainly quickly wanted to play around with intrigue for the first time and get that achievement.
    I was a bit dissapointed however to see that Carcasonne (the famous old and huge castle) is no special county... neither has good development nor a special building.
    By the way, do you intend to make a kind of "special building counties"-Guide? Where you for example talk about interesting special counties like Cordoba and Alhambra in Spain or the special mines in Bohemia and so on? I am really interested to see what kind of special places there are but unfortunately I never found a good list and in-game you would have to manually click on every single county (or even barony) that exists.

    It was a good guide. Next part of France guide i would like to hear about The House of Boulogne and Godfrey of Bouillon. I'm sure it will be very interesting talking + guide not only for me, but also for others too and this is why:
    1. Godfrey of Bouillon who was one of the four leaders of 1th crusade, also was son of Eustace II, Count of Boulogne.
    2. He was first ruler of Jerusalem, after 1th Crusade, but not for a long. (I'm not go into the specifics, because i will wait next episode).
    etc.

    There are two key factors when it comes to who should be your allies when starting as William:
    1) Marry one of your daughters to the king of Denmark, so he wouldn't ally with Norway.
    2) Marry another daughter to the king of France. He can't help you as long as you're his subject, but after conquering England you are independent and France can bring in 4.400 fresh troops to fight off the Norwegians.

    Playing as Harold, you can win by rallying both France and the HRE. They will accept all calls to your wars (except France can't fight Normandy as William is still technically a vassal of theirs). The trouble is, you have to rely on the allied AI doing the right things...

    Wrong house of Bourbon mate.

    • @RealmBuilderGuy
      @RealmBuilderGuy  4 года назад

      Technically yes and technically no...I explained so in the video. This is the 1st House of Bourbon. It died out in the male line, but the daughter married on. Her son then founded the 2nd House of Bourbon that went on to rule France after 1589. So the 2nd House clearly traces its lineage back to the 1st House, but is considered separate since it went through the female and not male line. So again...technically it’s both yes and no.

    • @mandead
      @mandead 4 года назад

      @@RealmBuilderGuy I think you're getting mixed up between the Bourbon-Dampierres and the actual House of Bourbon, which was a Capetian cadet branch founded by a son of Louis IX. That's the one the Bourbons stemmed from. It's complicated because there were numerous Bourbon dynasties.
      For an example of what you're speaking of, the house of Courtenay (a branch of which still exists today as earls of Devon) was 're-founded' by a woman of the original lineage marrying a son of Louis VI. This is where the Capetian house of Courtenay begins, although technically you could also call it a matrilineal continuation of the original house.

    • @RealmBuilderGuy

    Raymond VI and Raymond VII both fought against Catholic crusaders in 1209 when the Albigensian crusade started. Both were Catholics but they refused to obey the Popes orders to get rid of the Cathar’s. During the crusade they fought on the side of the Cathar’s against the crusaders. It was the first crusade against other Europeans. So many Cathar’s were burned at the stake by 1305 they were extinct. The Dominican Order was also founded during the Albigensian crusades, they were in charge of the inquisition and converting Cathar’s. Albi has a special cathedral you can only build if you convert to Catharism. Which is honestly ironic of paradox to add, as Cathar’s were anti-materialistic so they didn’t build any fancy cathedrals.
