Let’s talk about the incredible health benefits of clove.
Clove is natural, and there is a lot of interesting research on using it to promote a healthy body. One of the most common ways to use clove is as a numbing agent for a toothache.
The essential oil in clove called eugenol produces many benefits. But it also contains a lot of other phytonutrients.
You can use clove oil or simply chew and swallow a piece of clove. You can also use clove oil topically on the scalp for fungus or pathogens. It may even help reduce the toxicity created as a byproduct of fungus.
Clove may help enhance the effects of an antibiotic, allowing you to use lower amounts of it.
Clove oil may also help inhibit H. pylori and improve peptic ulcers, gastritis, indigestion, gas, and bloating.
A certain phytonutrient in clove is an MAO inhibitor. MAO inhibitors are used as antidepressants. Clove even has anti-inflammatory effects, and data shows it has anticancer properties.
Clove is relatively safe, but consuming too much clove oil could create a toxic effect. You should avoid clove if you are allergic to it or are pregnant or lactating.

Be caredul with swallowing cloves if you suffer from Hypoglycemia (low blood sugar levels). But if you have diabetes, the eugenol in cloves can help lower blood glucose counts to safe levels. Also don't overdo it. Eating or exposure to a large amount can cause tissue injury and a syndrome of acute onset of seizures, damage to the liver and kidneys, and coma. Clove may interfere with the body's ability to clot blood and may increase bleeding risk. For this reason, people taking blood thinners, such as warfarin, should avoid consuming cloves and since they may impact bleeding risk, you should also avoid taking clove supplements prior to surgeries.

Always great information Dr. Berg, thank you. I was raised in Somalia, located in East Africa, and have fond memories of my grandmother's unique remedy for treating colds and flu. Whenever I had a congested nose, she would prepare a concoction of boiling water infused with a pinch of cardamom, a generous amount of grated ginger, and cloves, and a stick of cinnamon. She would then have me inhale the aromatic steam, draping a towel over my head to trap the vapors. Afterward, I would drink plenty of this warm, spiced liquid. Optionally, a slice of lime could be added for extra flavor. This traditional treatment always seemed miraculous in alleviating symptoms, and I continue to use it for both myself and my children, finding it remarkably effective.

I actually do this! I have been for maybe a year now. I had been having some digestive problems after the loss of several family members, including both of my parents (lots of grieving). I started chewing on cloves after dinner in hopes to settle my stomach and nerves etc, I truly believe it has helped a great deal. Love your work Dr. Berg, please keep posting your wonderful and informative content. 🥰

A BIT OF HISTORY - Clove originate from the Maluku Archipelago in the north of Australia; Maluku, the famous Spice Islands Western European countries were looking for for ages, because Chinese and Arab traders kept the route secret for centuries so they could keep the price up on the European markets. For ages it was called the black Gold
Maluku Spice Islands play an important role in the discovery of the world beginning in the 15th century. The search for the place where cloves originate from lead to the discovery of the rest of te world. Cloves were the reason Spanish and Portugese kings decided to send out their own ships (Columbus, Magelhaes etc.)
Back then there was only Maluku. 'Indonesia' as a 'nation' or as a country did not exist at all. Maluku was colonized first shortly by the Portugese, later by the Dutch (since 1605 till 1949).
After the Dutch colonizer left in 1949 Maluku was attacked, invaded and occupied by the new colonizer, the Javanese, in 1950 after the Second World War until now 2023.
Growing up as a Moluccan we were already aware as kids of the medicinal properties of cloves. Our parents used it when we suffered toothache and other complaints.
For ages coves play also an important part in traditional Moluccan medicine and spiritual healing rites.
    Greetings from Maluku, West Melanesia.

Oregano oil mixed with coconut oil can be beneficial. 2 . Oregano oil is very strong. You always have to mix with carrier oil like coconut and olive oil .

I live in Nicaragua. Here, there is a drink called "Pinolillo". Pinolillo is a powder made out of roasted corn, cacao, and spices which often include cloves (clavos in spanish). People mix the powder with water and/or milk. It is a... remarkable... drink. It is traditionally made, so you can find it almost anywhere in Nicaragua, very cheap, created locally. Some Nicaraguan people call themselves Pinoleros refering to being made out of the pinolillo they consume.
Pinolillo consumption has very profound affects on the body. Personally, I am able to sustain myself and refrain entirely from meals and snacks on most days; simply by consuming 2-3 cups of pinolillo made with whole milk and 2-3 eggs each day. I am not tired. When I drink pinolillo, I have no problems with digestion at all. In fact; I can eat foods that cause problems and prevent thse digestive issues before they start simply by consuming a cup of pinolillo after the problematic meal.
I know that corn is a carbohydrate; but I swear; there is something magical about drinking pinolillo. Especially made with milk. It is essentially food. When you habitually drink pinolillo, you start to totally forget to have meals; because you are rarely hungry.
That being said, I dont put any sugar in it! A lot of people put sugar in it but imo that sorta ruins the magic of the drink. Thats why I use whole milk; the natural sweetness from the milk is enough to counter the bitterness from the cacao; which eliminmates the "need" to put sugar in the mix.
In Nicaragua, Pinolillo is very cheap. I can purchase high quality pinolillo freshly ground for $2 per pound. This is one of the reasons Pinolillo is such a remarkable food. Unfortunately, in the United States, pinolillo is significantly more expensive, making it a "luxury" to consume. Ironic, because here, it is so cheap that eating it can actually save you money. (because you waste less money on potato chips and other silly things)

Yes doctor this clove really helped me during 2020 lock down. I developed severe tooth ache . Since it was total lock down i could not keet the doctor unless in emergency. I massaged the affected tooth and surrounding area with clove oil . I could manage it so well and after 4 months when they lifted the lock down with certain conditions i met the dentist who was very happy that there was no inflammation and the broken tooth was easily extracted.
It is indeed a wondeful condiment where here in India we use it in preparation of certain types rice and curry .

For a tooth ache, also try a black, green or peppermint is my favorite, tea bag ( soak it first in warm water) and put on affected gums for 15 minutes. OMG it works for pain and lasted me a long time, like many days.

One of the best cures in Ireland for cold and flu symptoms is a “Hot Whiskey”. Warm a glass, then add a measure of whiskey, hot (but not boiling) water, honey, and a sliced of lemon, studded with cloves. Absolutely makes you feel better!
