I was born in 1967. Several years later, I was about 7 at the time when I first tuned into Kimba on TV in Los Angeles. It had relatable characters, a catchy theme song, and better-than-average scripts. I also remember this alternate opening from my childhood, when I saw the pilot episode--this version is a lot better, and it all came back to me.(I've only seen the English-dubbed version; have yet to view the original Japanese.) A true cult classic around the world, as well as a reminder of simpler times. 😸🦁🦁🦁
KIMBA(x8) Who lives down in deepest darkest Africa?(Africa) Who's the one who brought the jungle fame? Who's the king of animals in Africa? Kimba the white lion is his name! He's the greatest leader, there's no doubt of it He's the one we count on night and day, When there's danger he can get us out of it, Kimba the white lion lead the way!
I thought I remembered the song ending as "Kimba the White Lion is the one!" but it's been a LOOONG time. Few friends recall Kimba, but I loved this show! Had the TV on UHF to watch it (yep, I'm old!) along with Speed Racer.... :)
You are correct; there was another version with different instrumentation and some different lyrics (which is the one I heard back in the early 1970s on UHF Channel 52 KBSC in Southern California). That one is also available here on RUclips.
One of my favorites growing up in Philly. Wee Willie Webber's Cartoon Corner was what we rushed to the tv to see after school. Channel 17 and channel 48. Remember UHF tv. Wee Willie had Corageous Cat and Minute Mouse, Casper the Friendly Ghost, Batfink, Milton the Monster, Fearless Fly, Marine Boy, Astro Boy, Rocket Robinhood, Tobor the 8th Man, Spiderman, Ultraman, Johnny Sokko and his Flying Robot, Gigantor, King Kong. Channel 48 had Kimba the White Lion, Flintstones, Felix the Cat, The Mighty Hercules, Underdog, Rocky and Bulwinkle, Mr. Peabody and Sherman, Top Cat, Aesop and Son, Yogi Bear and all the gang like Wally Gator. Winny Witch, the Hilbilly Bears, Snaggle Puss, Super Chicken, man I could go on and on. If you grew up watching 60's tv, see how many you remember. Almost forgot The Space Giants on channel 29.
This is the original theme. In fact there was the American version then the overseas version. So if your remembering it differently its because most people are used to hearing what has come to be known as the Americanized version of the Original Japanese Cartoon that came to the United States later as 'Kimba the White lion.' but there it was something else. This version is the actual old scratchy version which slower and naturally more melodic. Another reason is that some people that are just hearing it aren't from our kid generation. They only know the Americanized version.
This series was one of my favourites as a kid (I was born in 1966) and this is the theme I remember. Today I bought a cheap Kimba DVD and it has a different song on it. That's how I ended up here. Maybe here in Australia we had this theme played and the other one played elsewhere in the world?
Yes, used to watch it on UHF Channel 56 in Boston. Kids in Dorchester, Mass loved it! I even played Kimba with my friends. I was always Kimba, of course. I wish theyd bring it back on TV Land
This was my favourite programme when I was little . I was in love with Kimba. And, you’re right in your recollections. There is another one on RUclips with the lyrics as we remember it.
This is the original theme song it popped in my head while I was reading the controversy on Twitter and I was singing it then I saw this video smiled and immediately knew this was it this was a fantastic cartoon I watched as a child it’s absolutely the best Disney needs to stop lying pay up and give Osamu Tezuka or his estate their royalty and copyright infringement money. 👏🏽
This was my favorite show as a kid in australia. I was very young but it made a huge impression on me - It use to play on the ABC- I also remember both theme song versions & as someone said here singing along only to find the words changed. This version was definetly the earliest & tho I lliked muchly, the later version was the 1 for me.
I seem to remember this slower more Australian version when I was growing up. Skippy I feel, continued the Australian and Asian T.V. theme familiaratity.
I seem to remember there were two theme songs... I was very young but I vaguely remember singing along and the words had changed....anyway, it was my favorite cartoon way back then....thanks!!
@iamstillmyself WOW. That is exactly how I heard this version the first time I remember it, at a film screening at a convention. Thanks for having both great versions up!
@iamstillmyself Exactly, yep! I went to a film presentation of this in downtown L.A. the first year of the L.A. Marathon, and this was on the film track. The episode began with the other opening music theme, and closed with this version. I have a short excerpt of this event with the extremely favorable crowd reaction somewhere... :)
This was an "alternate" version of the theme {Giant-Baum-Kaye}, with different lyrics, that was rarely used during the original series...a full version of the theme, with all the lyrics, was never recorded- although an instrumental version turned up on a 'bargain album', "TV '67" {Wyncote/ 1966}.
This version and the other more popular one have a quirky, almost indescribable connection to The Tokens "The Lion Sleeps Tonight". To me, that's wonderful.
@DefconWarningSystem That is a good conjecture, but I have to mention I did actually hear it used on the show, very rarely though. I was at a convention in downtown LA some 25 years ago, and we watched several Kimba episodes on 16 mm film that day. This version played during the closing credits on one of the many episodes.
The other version is also available on here on RUclips. The instrumentation is a bit more "polished" (and no organ) and there are some variation in lyrics.
@iamstillmyself Sometimes I see cartoons were they change the lyrics on the theme song for 1 or 2 epsodes then change it back to the original song. Sometimes they would only do it for the broadcast version of those shows. I think the creators just want to see how other people think of the new song.
If you are referring to the actual video, it was from a show that originally was created back in 1965. If referring to this upload, it was uploaded back in 2007. Which was only a couple of years after RUclips was launched. In either case it is quite old by internet standards It should also be noted, the creator of this channel, Craig Anderson, died back in 2012.

Oh I remember it too!! I think I was 7 or 8. Also remember Astro Boy which I really loved and Marine Boy. Didn’t like Speed Racer that much.
There are 2 versions

Interesting to know they are both versions to this
@@watchforever1724 this is from the short lived pilot, the above post is incorrect

Wow, this one's an old one, thanks for sposting memories that cannot be replaced!!!

I doubt they would ever do that
Good God, This takes me back to a simpler time in life, I thank you for posting this.

love this one soooo much more! ^_^
This one is better!
I seem to remember this slower more Australian version when I was growing up. Skippy I feel, continued the Australian and Asian T.V. theme familiaratity.
~Loved ~Loved ~Loved Kimba! 😉 💌
Always gotta have a white element in Africa. Tarzan, George Of The Jungle and course Kimba the "White Lion".
Thanks for the walk down Memory Lane....

The One and Only True LION KING....KIMBA
Lol
Yes this one is different from the DVD version.

My preferred version
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU - this was my favourite cartoon as a kid - and the new theme song was a travesty!
it's the same theme, you would NOT have seen this as a child, as this only aired a few times, its from the original pilot broadcast
Interesting to hear this theme song
Like a lot of people here I also remember it different. Used to watch this with my sister growing up. 😿
The other version is also available on here on RUclips. The instrumentation is a bit more "polished" (and no organ) and there are some variation in lyrics.
The original is a little better
I believe this is the theme that was released on vinyl. It was never used on the show itself.
Memories. ♥️♥️♥️
@iamstillmyself Sometimes I see cartoons were they change the lyrics on the theme song for 1 or 2 epsodes then change it back to the original song. Sometimes they would only do it for the broadcast version of those shows. I think the creators just want to see how other people think of the new song.
2 people don't have an awesome childhood!!!
Agreed
Interesting, It isn't often You hear this theme with the opening credits.
this is actually the second verse of the opening
no, it's the first, its from the pilot
O.G. lion king!!!
Variant
Interesting, I had the series on VHS and this theme was never played.
you watch it on tv now? wow, what cahnnel? I can't find it. I did buy the cheap dvd's from wal'mart though, my nephew loves em....
Al you did is slow it but still good
Hmm, suspicious
the theme song i have is a lot different to this on tap
those last few lines were not in the version I watched...ever!
Cool
Oops I see you already replied. Maybe it was you who showed these broadcast episodes in the auditorium that day :)
My Cat´s name is Kimba :)
I also had a cat named Kimba, always loved the name!!
Regele leu 😅😅😅
Kimba????
The CLOSING credits to the slower version here also had different lyrics..can you post that?
This was my favorite cartoon when I was a little girl!
Cool to know
I know when I watched Kimba this theme was a bit different this is the sissy version
This theme song is just a bit weird
is this the first or second dubed version?
Do you have the Japanese opening?
You can find it somewhere else
Wow you went to a lot of trouble.
Why is this video as old as I am
Probably the person didn’t this person still on youtube
If you are referring to the actual video, it was from a show that originally was created back in 1965. If referring to this upload, it was uploaded back in 2007. Which was only a couple of years after RUclips was launched. In either case it is quite old by internet standards

this is not the o
This ruins the old intro. (Sorry to fans of this intro)
Actually, only if your old enough would you remember that this is the actual original theme.
Alicorn Girl this is the old intro
I like it though
