    Attempt at the untranslatable :
Och gupparna (1) fuktade stubben/strupen (some weird sound)
And the boys/men wet their tree trunk/throat (???)
I polkan dansar vår husbondadräng (2), storskan(3) hon vågar sig ut på en sväng(4).
Our farmhand dances to the polka, the maid/girl dares out on a round of dancing.
    (1. Gubbarna as in men but Fenno-Swedish pronounciation)
    (2. Pronounced here as husbonnadräng)
    (3. I guess old-time name for girl, possibly of some excessive weight or just similar to Stinta, also meaning girl)
    (4. Literally a swing, referring to the movements of the dance itself)

0:53 should be "fast hur ska hon våga sig ut på en sväng" as in "but how should she dare to go out for a dance" she being the potential lover of the "husbondedräng" (farmhand of the head farmer) of the previous set of question marks at 0:52.

    • @sam-zb1jy
      @sam-zb1jy 6 месяцев назад +5

I'm also somewhat sure that the 0:46 line is "och gubbarna fuktar strupen, ja den var god" it's a fairly esoteric line so i'm not sure. Basically what it means is "and the old boys have started to drink, oh yeah it was nice" but in thick, older countryside vocabulary. The second subsentence is more of a vocal flair than actually part of the song, fairly common for swedish folk music. It's said something like "jade'va'go' " as one word, and despite how i have translated it, the actual meaning would be something more akin to the english: "based". So something like "the fellas started sippin, based"

@@MrJerppu veli hej jeppu, ehkä toi PS propaganda on ollut vähän liikaa. Finnoswedes mount up to about 5% of Finland, mostly in österbotten, Turku and in raseborg. That does not mean 5% speak swedish but 5% have swedish as their mothertounge. Most finns in Österbotten, Turku, Raseborg and many in Helsinki speak swedish.
Finno-Swedes have had a huge cultural impact on Finland, in fact most of the finnish nationalist idols were finnoswedes (Mannerheim, Snellman, Runeberg, Tove(creator of Muumin). The jeagers were also finnoswedes.
We finnoswedes have a unique culture, cabins, boats, water, foodd etc but we are finnish not swedish on a nationality level.
What the nationalist in Finland does not understand is that Fiskars, Nokia, Muumin, Mannerheim, jääkärit, Runeberg, national anthem.... are all finnoswedish and not finnish. Finnish people just hopped on the bandwagon and are now trying to claim our culture, which is fine if they just would understand where that culture began.

About 5+% of finnish people talk swedish as their mother's language. To my ears the great version here is sung in 'finnish' dialect of swedish - inte på riks svenska- so it is bit misleading to call it Finnish-Swedish folk song. Säkkijärven polkka is and remains an important part of Finnish folk lore. An amazing piece of history related to Säkkijärven polkka follows. FInland lost it's second largest city Viipuri in peace making after the Winter war in March 1940 to Soviet Union. The so called Continuation war started in June 1941. After the FInnish troops conquered back Viipuri, it was discovered that Russians had mined the mideval castle of Viipuri with bombs to be detonated by radio signals. To eliminate the danger of detonation, Säkkijären polkka was played 24h several days in frequencies Russians might be using until the bombs had been neutralized.

Wrote down n added what i heard here, so give the song a go while reading this lyric and i think it will make sense for swedish speakers atleast, and fyi some words might be written in dialect or more as they are pronounced and the & that i use instead of och is because its more like a å / åh sound then och. :D

Då stampar vi takten, och klackarna slår
och flickorna dansar med flygande hår

4 & redan hörs det på chip och sho
    & gubbarna fuktade strupen jo
& flickan hon tappar i dansen en sko

5 I polkan dansar vår husbonne dräng,
pastorskan hon våga sig ut på en sväng,
Det dansas i sal & det dansas på äng
