I just did the same thing. I did a huge clothing purge and cleared all the extra stuff from my space that no longer needed to be there. Very stressful, but I feel so much better now. I have two huge baskets of stuff to donate.
I love when you do these cleanouts!! I struggle with hoarding clothes. I have so many items that I haven't worn in years but I convince myself I need them "just in case". You know, just in case I suddenly start going out to clubs every week again. 🙄😂 It's so hard because I'm convinced one day I'll have a last minute need for these clothes and then I'll be upset I don't have them anymore. Lol.

I've been working on keeping my wardrobe down by doing a few things:
Establishing a color palette. There are a total of like 6 colors in my entire wardrobe.
Wearing only what I love and what makes me feel good.
Thrifting with intention. I have a list of specific things I'm looking for and do not stray from that.
I've also been trying not to buy items that only serve one purpose or can only be worn in specific events. I like my whole wardrobe to do it all for anything at any time. 😆
When I declutter, I try not to keep anything that I just kinda like. If it's not a definite yes or I find myself rationalizing having it, it needs to go.
I try not to have duplicate items unless it's just something I really love in another color or style.
Anyone else trying to declutter can also try a hanger trick I've heard of to help visually see what you do and don't wear. When you wear an item, turn the hanger around or separate it from the items you haven't worn. Keep a tally if you need to, but this way you'll visually see what you're wearing consistently every month. If I haven't touched an item in months and it isn't because of the season, then I typically get rid of it.
You could also try removing one item when you buy another to avoid bulk or building that back up.
You can also donate, resell, or recycle the unwanted items. Some areas have textile recycling facilities which I think is super helpful.
I agree that a pretty ruthless and a practical approach to what to keep or donate is key. I've very rarely regretted donating or selling something, most things I don't even remember once they're gone.
I've been using an app to track what I wear each day and it's really helped me to not only identify what I wear but also what I want to wear more! Plus it counts for you and gives you stats which I'm a bit of a nerd for. It was such a pain in the bum taking pictures of everything in my wardrobe (/closet, I'm English lol) but I think it was worth it. Also if I didn't feel like taking a picture of an item it was a good sign it needed donating. Apps called Acloset (withwendy mentioned it in a vid) if anyone is curious

The color palette closet method HAS CHANGED MY LIFE!!!! Not even kidding. It’s helped reduce how many impulse clothes I purchase by tenfold, I swear!
@@carolinebell7881 Yes! Best part is basically everything makes since together when you've decided on a palette that works for you.
A great video idea would be to go on a “no buy” for 6 months or a year, and in that time wear everything you have and love! That will give you a better idea what to purge/doesn’t work with your life. It will also stop some of the conspicuous consumption in this current economy. More memory making fun times, less shopping. It could be so helpful!! ❤️
My rule of thumb when purging is keep 1 evening dressy piece and 1 day dressy piece as long as they fit and you really like them. I think they're exceptions to the rule of, if I haven't worn it, I won't. Kinda like having a swimming suit you like that fits you at all times just in case. Those types of items are FOR special occasions so obvs, I'm not going to wear them a lot but as long as I check in with it occasionally to make sure I still like it and it still fits, I'm good. And I don't buy new speciality items like that til I’m ready to get rid of what I have. 💁🏼♀️

For anyone wondering how to break in doc’s - soup cans. Nestle a soup can in each boot for a few days to loosen them. I’ve never had a blister, I wear mine for miles, they’re like a second skin. 🖤
When I was a kid in the 90s I loved Jean short overalls and loved wearing them with tights/leggings with doc's when the weather was chillier!
Okay tell me why the rain sounds totally added to the video. It really just made it feel so cozy, idk about y’all but I love cleaning in the fall/winter instead of the spring as I live in Canada and can’t go outside in the colder months, so you know full well I’m not wasting the warm days inside cleaning lol.
My best piece of advice that I’ve ever heard from anyone is “just because everyone is wearing jeans doesn’t mean you have too” and honestly it’s helped me so much. I now feel more comfortable wearing the outfit I want to wear (even if it’s more “fancy” or “dressed”). I feel like growing up I always felt over dressed when I would wear a dress or a skirt and everyone else was wearing leggings and uggs but if I’m just sitting in a desk at school why shouldn’t I wear what makes me happy. My dad always says dress for the occasion and 80% of the time the occasion allows you to wear whatever you want. Hope all my babbling makes sense lol.

When you held up the 3 similar but different sweaters, I felt that in my soul. They all have different purposes and styles.
When you were going through all of your cream sweaters, all I could think of was Spice World: “trying to decide whether to wear the little Gucci dress, the little Gucci dress, OR the little Gucci dress”
Extended sizing tights (or pantyhose/whatever they are called)! I want to see a video on this SO BADLY. Also, not sure if you are into snow sports at all, but I would love a video on SNOW PANTS!

I think you should explore more classic, but, edgy styles (i.e., a beautiful cranberry sweater with great sleeve and neckline details). Welcome to 2023!
You showing us all of your cream sweaters reminds me of how every time I go into either Wal Mart or Target, I have to remind myself that I do NOT need yet another gray sweater! I dunno what to tell you, I got a thing for gray sweaters...
You should get a color analysis done and then do a video based on shopping your own closet (or thrift) based on the analysis!!

I find with clothes you plan to give a second chance too, to then take time out to create outfits with those pieces, take photos of those outfits & then keep them out in view. It helps to see how much you actually love those pieces too 💜
The clothes I "save for a rainy day" are in a separate section of my closet from my regular clothes and when I take a vacation I look at the saved clothes and if I don't feel inspired to bring them on a trip then I get rid of them because I never get invited out. I take most of my pictures on vacation bc I'm being a tourist and in a new place / making memories. If the clothes don't pass the trip test they get donated.

I’ve been in and out of the hospital since December 30th, unable to walk without a walker and can’t hold a cup to get a drink (I have severe tremors, dizziness, double vision, etc). I’m facing an MS diagnosis but won’t be sure until I get in with a neurologist- in JUNE 😠. My husband and 3 teenagers have been so good, helping and taking care of the household chores….. but, the laundry situation has gotten out of control! They can’t tell my clothes from my teenage daughter (to be fair we have a few pants that are the same, just different sizes). The laundry room is so intimidating right now but I’ve had to let that go. I’m always so inspired when you do clean out videos! I’m ready to cut all our extra clothes out so that it’s easier on all of us. I don’t have the strength right now but I will be doing it asap. Thank you for your content, I’ve had so many hours of bed rest and RUclips has kept me sane ❤

Carrie while you are in Japan you should check out the brand punyus. It is one of the only plus size brands.
The doc marten Sinclairs have a soft leather instead of patent leather and they barely require breaking in! And every single doc marten sandals I’ve tried even the huge 4 inch platforms are amazingly comfortable. So as much as I’d love some classic docs I just don’t want to go through the pain 🫠
