Thats alot of Cromanoise. Im suprised they forgot to use a UV& IR Cut filter infront of the lense for a professional shoot. Thanks to Davinci its posibile to reduce the apperance of that noise. Great and simple little grade you did there. Glad to have you back on YT. Keep them coming.
As usual great one. Now I have couple of questions; 1. As far you haven't done in changes between display space & fpe why not odt node with cineon? Why you added extra node for cineone only? 2. If you have to use built in nr, how will you approach ? Just slapp nr node or on lab space? 3. Whats your go to exposure adjustment? Hdr wheels/dctl, LGG or linear only? 4. Why contrast curve is in parrel node instead of serial? Expecting to hear you.
@@m1nt9reenthat will kill tonal range, contrast & colors, because when you are dialing opacity, you are dialing everything back. If we want to kill only contrast or only color; layer mixer method is there for more granular controls. I think he has advanced workflow in his mind.
@@m1nt9reenhe means to say that it will kill the tonal range contrast colors etc of the kodak LUT, not the original image. I like what the kodak LUT does to the image in terms of the colors and split toning…it’s just that I sometimes feel like the contrast is a bit too much for my taste. So, in that case, it’s better to go with the layer mixer technique to keep the colors intact and dial down just the contrast as Saba mentioned in his comment above :)
4:14 you don't need a compound node for this, you can put the OFX and the LUT in the same node. OFX are always processed first in a node, and LUTs are always last. You can also do an ACES transform to ADX10 instead of a CST to cineon, which I find often gives better results
great video again! I have one question.. you used the LUT provided from blackmagic. I heared and saw how badly the LUTs from Blackmagic are build because not every shot works with it and the colours in the image could break. Now i see you using it on high end commercials.. im a bit confused because i strictly try to avoid the LUTs from Blackmagic. Why do you use them? Is there fake news about these LUTs or are they safe to use?
Hey Gavin, can you point me to a good paint for your grading room? I'm about to set up one at home and also am from germany. So maybe you got some good tips?
This and: I chose a grey tone that I liked. I doesn’t make that much of a difference for me tbh. Ive seen so many grading suites that don’t have grey walls at all!
Huge fan of this type of videos! keep it up!!!

1. this allows you to dial back the fee with opacity and get back to the regular transform

@@Saba_Demitri it won't kill tonal range, contrast or colours. It will dial them back towards the standard transform, according to taste

Thanks for the advice! Keeping on learning :)

Which wheel/adjustment did u use to lift the blacks? Maybe it would be better to relocate your facecam to somewhere else less important
Thank u for your work

Fsi website has some detailed info.

@@Gavin_Haughey_Colorist ok thank you both. I‘ll have a look at FSI and possibly decide in the Baumarkt ;)
@@TechMediaLifr I used a grey tone from Farrow & Ball. They have very nice colors!
Hey Gavin where are you originally from?
I live in Germany!
