Wicked is a musical with songs and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz and book by Winnie Holzman. The story is based on the best-selling novel Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West by Gregory Maguire, a parallel novel of L. Frank Baum's classic story The Wonderful Wizard of Oz from the perspective of the witches of the Land of Oz.
Wicked tells the story of Elphaba, the future Wicked Witch of the West and her relationship with Glinda, the Good Witch of the North. (In the album notes, Gregory Maguire explained that he derived the name "Elphaba" from the initials of L. Frank Baum.) Their friendship struggles through their opposing personalities and viewpoints, rivalry over the same love-interest, their reactions to the Wizard's corrupt government, and, ultimately, Elphaba's public fall from grace. The plot is set mostly before Dorothy's arrival from Kansas, and includes several references to well-known scenes and dialogue in the 1939 film The Wizard of Oz as a backstory.
The musical debuted on Broadway on October 30, 2003. It was produced by Universal Pictures and directed by Joe Mantello, with musical staging by Wayne Cilento. Its original stars were Idina Menzel as Elphaba, Kristin Chenoweth as Glinda, and Joel Grey as the Wizard. Although the production received mixed reviews and was panned by The New York Times, it has proved to be a favorite among patrons. The Broadway production's success spawned productions in Chicago, Los Angeles, London's West End, Tokyo, Melbourne, and Stuttgart, along with two North American tours that have visited over 30 cities in Canada and the United States.
Enjoy! :)

I am from NYC but couldn't get tickets when I was back there visiting, but saw it the other night in Richmond, VA and it was AMAZING!!! I grew up going to see Broadway in NYC and this is one of the best I've seen!! The travelling cast is just as amazing as the original Broadway cast!
I watched these performers in Indianapolis and they were amazing. I promise...it is worth every penny. A truly amazing musical!

if they make a documentary about wicked, they should show the original broadway cast.
Man, I love how I'm just so geeky that I already know everything being revealed and talked about here, and in a whole lot more depth too - and yet I continue to watch just because it''s another Wicked thing I haven't seen yet!
I just saw Wicked for my first time in NYC yesterday and it was AMAZING!!!!! I absolutely loved it!! I understand the Wizard of OZ now haha I cant explain my feeling of the musical i was in awh that i was 2 rows off the stage and just 2 b there was wonderful.

i would pay good money to have them make a really amazing dvd with the original cast. something like what they did with cats
The novel is a must-read too!
I went and saw it in March with my bestfriend. It was absolutely amazing.
i just watched wicked with my music class yesterday and i gotta say it was one awesome musical!

ItsLucy I know I'm a bit late 😂 but I'm thinking of going and was wondering what seats are good to get 👍🏻
I saw it yesterday with 10 of my BFFS and I loved it I'm only 12 and we all loved IT!!!!!
Hey musicchick4god -- Yeah, back in the summer of 2005, before there were sit down productions in Chicago and LA, SJB was on the first National Tour. She injured her neck in Toronto, and then had some kind of problem again with it again in LA. During the SF leg of the tour -- Eden filled in for her. At least I saw her before she was injured in LA -- PHENOMENAL!!!!!
I saw this on the West End and it was amazing, but part of me can't help but be sad that I never got to see Idina and Kristin in the main roles. I really hope that should they ever make a movie, that they play the main roles, it would be perfect.
actually they didnt film the entire thing. they only filmed certain scenes and songs. i think they should film the 10 year anniversary or have a concert and release it, the same way that filmed the 25th anniversary concert of Phantom of the Opera and released it in theaters
I LOVE WICKED! I've only seen it twice in London..thus far...but if i can see it again, I wouldn't even have to think about it for a second! I really hope it tours around England, I live near Liverpool, so it is a long, long way to London! BUT the Wicked movie is out next year! Oh, I hope they do it justice!
Ive seen wicked, i absolutley ADORE IT! cannot get enough (:
They need to make a movie and now! With Idina and Kirstin! Or in my opinin I think Marcie and Alli would be great to.
this is such I really love the best
I love wicked i love the songs and i the show like 3 times and it's coming to my town in 2014
They are! Next year :)
Five years later and there isn’t a movie lol
saw it on saturday in the west end, our new cast opened not long ago and are amazing!!!
its been 9 years since ive seen it......... i STILL talk about it
i saw it in sydney a few months ago - absolutely amazing!!!!
is it possible not to LOVE wicked??
Finally got to see this (through wickedly questionable means >.
Oh mannn is this Elphaba Stephanie J Block
Just saw this show for the 8th time last week. I love it so much!
Yeah, that would be cool; sort of how they filmed Joseph & the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat and released that as a movie.
this is my favorite show
nope. the original one, Idina Menzal
Oh it was definitely Wicked! Avenue Q is closing, which is sad because it was my first Broadway love.
you are. I just fear that a movie wouldn't have the same "magic" as the musical theater. I think they should just film the show live like Rent in 2008.
its amazing! :D I saw it in september in london - its absolutely amazing :)
me too i love her she is a really good at singing
Saw it twice. Amazing!
saw it with rachel tucker and it was amazing!

SWEET OZ! i cant wait im going to see this on wednesday
I saw a animation concept video for Wicked and it looked amazing - that would be good I think
@bluegreenxlt I totally agree, Idina and Kristin will always be the most magical of all who performed these two roles. They just seem to bring a special quality to the musical that no one else can match :)
Who is the actress playing Elphaba in this video?
where can i donload wicked to watch it?
Wicked is the greatest show if you haven't seen it GO! Right now .... Just go!!!
In my opinion is the second greatest show ever. Second to Hamilton! :3
I've seen Wicked in 2010 and I'm going to see Wicked Agein in 2013!!
this is my favorite broadway show
and with good behind the scenes stuff!!!!
I love Wicked I have seen it twice
Is Wicked Still On Tour across the U.S.A.?
SOMEONE PLEASE ANSWER ME!!!
@purplerae I totally agree with you about the movie version! Because to be honest, it's a bit annoying everyone is saying they will be too old for the movie - because it was ONLY seven years ago. With technology advancing like it has/is, age doesn't matter anymore -> it's the passion they bring for the characters :}
i watch this last tuesday live
I cannot believe Wicked will be 10 years old next year
@iRunWithLife I'm seeing it this year around my birthday, and im driving my parents crazy with wicked talk xD
Just saw it yesterday
Just watched it in the west end soooo good
@amandarines1979 Yes they are, it will be released in 2012.
Actually it has been postponed indefinitely, because they dont want it to take anything away from the broadway show's success... Rumors are that it will arrive in theatres in 2016.
i thought the movie was still in production? and according to Idina's wikipedia page (hopefully its true since wikipedia can be unreliable) she is cast as Elphaba
I saw it for my 7th birthday!
That house is ALWAYS flying in
@123lolzxx123 after - definately after x) It's the tour cast that were formed for the sole purpose of touring. Idina came to London when it moved to the UK. The OBC was Kristin and Idina :}
If you notice, they've filmed the whole show. They use clips of it in this behind the scenes... Maybe they'll make that the movie
I love it I just like to see wicked at New York
i really want to see this, where can i get tickets??
@luvhelmet ohhhhhhh.....that makes sense. She's really good.
why don't u make a tour worldwide!? come to the middle east please
yes it should've. Avenue Q was good too, but Wicked beats it all! It will probably be one of the longest runners like Phantom and Cats its so good :o)
i wonder where do you find this documentary?
And they should do that this year being that it's WICKED's 10th Anniversary.
