I was concerned about this myself, but the Samsung Find My Mobile, not the Google version, will turn on Location on the phone. I tested with wifi and location off, and when I tried to locate the phone, the Samsung service turned location on and pinpointed my phone on a map. It seems as though as long as you have cellular service or the phone is connected to wifi, Samsung Find My Mobile will work with location turned off. Requires you to set the service up in advance. Looks like once you use the service from the website, location services stays enabled on your phone. findmymobile.samsung.com.

I normally charge every two days, and am on voice calls for hours each workday. During the recent time off, the battery lasted nearly a week.
Looking at my phone, Location Services is turned on, but the battery usage report, which goes back a week, doesn't even mention Location Services, so it must be like 1/1000 of the usage or less. (I used Door Dash yesterday, so it did obtain my location at least once)
My experience is that after the first batch of smart phones that ran down the battery if you kept GPS on, they automatically use it only when needed; e.g. in a maps app. And "Location Services" is more general, using known cell tower locations and known WiFi locations as well.
So, does your "hack" actually have any effect? How did you test it to ensure the same conditions before and after?

    • @eduhudtwalcker
      @eduhudtwalcker 2 года назад

yes, I agree with you, modern phones are not "actively" using location services all the time just because the location services are on, it only gets used when an app that needs location services requests it, google maps is an obvious example, but there are many more that want it and probably don't even need it and that can be managed individually per app by removing the permission, I have tested tis by turning off location services completely and I can confirm that the difference is negligible, probably "Ok Google" listening services consumes way more.

My cell phone I presumed already has factory setting to detect low battery power. Therefore if I did inadvertently reach at a "0%" juice left......again, then my cell phone would prompt me and indicate, " slow charge" or change to the correct charger cable. Some other warning similar to it.
The battery is good, not the same though. Factory setting, not that much. Battery will charge on your phone, but not the same way. Stop and charge up on point, once you predict or see that you've reach below this mark. Zero < 30% battery power left. Stay above 30 > though to avoid the batteries reserve warning.
I noticed that my phone charged at a higher rate just before I reach 30% hurdle or mark. If I paid attention.
Sadly, charging below 30% reserve, forced me to charge it up (slow), I would then overlook the, " slow charging" or the "incorrect charger cable" prompts by powering off.
The battery will charge quicker. Either way I had to eventually replace the battery. Less of a hussle that way.

I get terrible battery life on my S10+ so this is brilliant. I added all my shopping apps, smart home devices and apps that rely on maps like takeaway food delivery apps. I use Bixby Routines for lots of things and I hadn't thought of using it for this.
One app that I have an issue with is my blood glucose app. It says it needs location to push the Bluetooth data from my blood sugar machine to my phone. Even though I added it, the location doesn't turn on before the app detects it is off and then refuses to push the data. I just have to remember to turn location on before I use my machine and open the app.
But thanks for this tip. I really learn a lot from you. Including how to use kwgt. Your apps are truly brilliant!

Ex: I have opted for maps and an app which I use for booking cabs.
I case of Maps the Bixby routine is working perfectly and the location is turned off upon exiting application. This is not in case of other application as mentioned above.

Not that it is important to me for Google to give me a summary of the places I visited in a year, but how do I get locations to turn ON for places I visit?
Also, I need locations ON for the other BR to function, like switching ON WiFi when I get home, or mute calls when I get to the office. How do I get around this?

So I've been trying to find a way to send you a DM and not sure if it's possible on RUclips but what I want to know is I'm on AT&T with a note 10 plus and I still am on one UI 2.5, I still have yet to see anything about one UI 3.0. I guess my question is can I ever expect to see 3.0 on the note 10 plus or is that just not even an option

I love this new feature and i also love your channel. I only have one small problem with this feature. In Holland we have a app for the corona virus and that app uses the location feature 24/7. So my location option stays on for 24/7. I don't know if this means my battery safe is not changing or that it does because only one app is using it? Hope to get a reply. Thank you and from Holland keep on doing this great channel

What's up saki, great video awesome idea, but it doesn't work when you have good lock using left and right quick shortcuts. I have set up when I swipe right map's opens and takes me home. With the Bixby routine on the maps app opens but then promts me to turn on location and when I press yes gps starts but when I close the app it doesn't turn off the location. Sucks because I like both features but I love good lock swiping feature for short cuts better

Hi Sakitech, can you do a video on how to change the default video player in samsung note 10? When I go gallery and try to play a video, it'll be playing without sound and I cannot control the player. Only way is to tab on the 3 dots and tab on the video player. Tried to find the solution online but zero!

Tried this. When I open Maps it irritatingly asks to turn on Location services or Ignore. Almost as quick to turn location on manually (though of course an extra step to turn off when exiting the app).
I didnt see this happen in the video so perhaps there's a way to turn off that message.

Doesn't Bixby polling also use battery? If you turn off Bluetooth and wifi location assist, that saves more battery. I do not see location draining on the Note 10+ 855.

I have just tried this on my S20 with UI3 and location services stays on when I test the routine with Maps or Facebook etc. When I check the routine settings a message pops up saying Location Services needs to be turned on for the routine to work. Is it to do with the 'When routine ends' setting as it says "reverse all actions where possible" so does that mean it may not be able to turn off Location Services when you close an app that is in the list? 🙁

Think twice before doing this. The location service is required to be ON if you need to use Google's 'Find My Phone' service. If location is OFF and you lose your phone then Google will not be able to tell you where it is.

I have a question about my new Note 20 Ultra. I have rotate turned on, but the display will not rotate on RUclips, or any other app. I did have an open app, not sure what, that did rotate when I turned the phone clockwise. I can't repeat that. Is my new phone defective or is there another setting that I need to change?

I always have location turned off. It's not to hard and it takes only 1 sec to turn it on when you need it. Not a single app is using GPS. I simply didn't allow them to use that feature. So Bixby is trash in my opinion

Extend battery life 😑.... Hey aleast show us the before and after screenshots.
The issue isnt the location turning on or off. Its that in the latest android and ios versions bluetooth and location is already on even if its off. The OS is pinging the location of the user to relay data back to the server.

Except this isn't that automated, because you have to remember to always kill the app. Which is more steps and annoyance than pulling down the status and disabling location.

sakitech, there is a major BUG with this feature. i enabled the location feature for the google fit app. while it does turn on location when i open the app, the route on the map at the end of the trip is totally wrong. it happens several times and i had to remove the feature. i urge anyoneto try it and see for yourself. you can do this by adding 'google fit' app and enable location when the app opens.

I tried to create a routine to turn on the location and data mode when disconnected from my home wifi, but it did not work. Is it possible to create a routine like that?
My intention is activate automatically the location and data mode when I leave home. Many times I forget to turn on those features (manually) when I go out.

This will disable your gps if you even minimise maps, even if it goes to smaller multi task mode. Not to mention your weather app will stop working correctly as there is no easy way to set up time based on your widgets updating.
