Hello Ivy, I have just listened to your positive and thoughtful comment at the end of this video. You're right, I feel that it is such an amazing thing and that it should have happened decades ago! However, I think that it needs to be done intelligently rather than emotionally. At the moment, everyone is being motivated by emotion. I can definitely understand the emotion because I feel it myself and I have wanted this to happen for years. It just needs to be better researched and better organised. Ghanaians and African Americans need to understand each other and each other's cultures a lot better before they decide to live together or even 'marry' if you know what I mean.
Eve Mason, I understand your perspective but here's the difference. This is not a husband and wife arrangement. These are the great great grandchildren of family that were forcibly removed from African homes, families and communities over 400 years ago. There is definitely a need to put infrastructure in place to support them coming home. But it must start somewhere. Sometimes if you wait to put things in place nothing ever happens... So the best place to start is by acknowledging the irreparable harm that was done to them, opening the doors to them and welcoming them home. Period

@@LornaBlakeEmpower Hi Lorna, that's truly lovely to hear! I hope that you are going to do a video about it. A trip to Africa definitely does that. It changes you for the better. It's so good for the soul - of anyone. Don't you wish you could bottle it and share it out? I'm glad it is happening. The idea of black people collaborating to organise their own holiday destinations in Africa amazes me. I just love thinking about it. I was just expressing concern because I know that it all needs to be done with respect to people's differences. I know people who have been to Ghana and did not appreciate how calm and quiet it can be without all the distractions of the 'developed world'. They also didn't appreciate how conservative and religious the people are. They didn't like the slow pace of getting things done and how long it took to get to places in traffic. None of that bothers me because I love it like that. It's nice to be in a black country that is slow paced, conservative, respectful and happy (joyful). It's better if you are prepared for the African conditions, the African mentality, and the culture etc. Also, Ghanaians have expectations of how they want people to behave and generally conduct themselves in Ghana. People should be told about that before they get there. If not, soon after they arrive. I want this to go really well. x
