    This era of Land Rover still look great today. They've aged well because of their box dimensions, it's a timeless design for a 4x4.
    I definitely prefer this squared off look. Modern SUVs have too many curves for my personal taste. I've got an 09 Disco 3 and I think it looks infinitely better than the 5

      Actually it turned out range rovers aren't as unreliable as people say. It's an urban myth in a way. Given you don't service it at LR dealership. There is a lot of aftermarket parts that are really not expensive.
      Also at this point you don't have to replace every faulty sensor and stuff like that. I'm in the market for a proper 4x4 vehicle that I'll convert to an Overland vehicle. Range rover is second on my list. After VW Touareg

    • @Alexander_l322
      @Alexander_l322 3 года назад +21

      @@SkywalkerPaul you should replace whatever goes wrong when you can as it always makes more sense then leaving it to the point where things mount up and make it half what a Range Rover should be and leaving you with a much bigger bill when you do get it all sorted. Cheaping out on maintenance is not right on something like a Range Rover.

      See my comment. If you look after them and maintain them there isn't a problem. The problem is people buy them second hand and cheap out on the maintenance and care and then expect them to be trouble-free. They are like the my third wife - great to look at; go like they are in the 3.15 at Chepstow; great ride - but need washed once a week, lots of care, attention, love and a bit of money spent now and again to keep them happy and content.

    Here in Australia there's quite a few with the 2.7TDV6 with well over 400,000km. My 08 is at 330k and I haven't had many issues with it. I've had it for 8 years and put 200,000 of those km on it, but it still does feel like an event every time I drive it, and it still feels like a premium car. I still think it looks great for its age - the shape is timeless, whereas I feel the German SUVs of the same vintage haven't aged as well. It also really is fantastic off road, and as an all round on and off road tourer I can't think of anything better.

    219,000 miles on my 2007 RRS. I do regular maintenance. The RRS is ,incredibly, easy to work on and the parts are reasonably priced, if you know where to look . If my RRS stopped working today, and couldn't be repaired, i would buy another one tomorrow. ( i keep tools and extra range rover parts in the event i find a fellow owner in need of assistance)

      Agree but thats becuase it the one they are all trying to replicate, not the greatest by any means but they are very capable of road as well as being a luxury on the road, maybe not that sporty. It is still a Range Rover! The shape might look a bit old but if you look at an X5 or ML or Cayenne of the same age they look even more dated! The Supercharged is the one to have, I had one and the look on peoples faces on the motorway when you indicate to change lanes and you plant your foot in the carpet and take off! No one expects such a big lump to get a move on! The only downside is your bank manager will call you and tell you to stop it or he will take your house!

    Your review was spot-on. I'm a big fan of this era and those 4.2 and 4.4 Jag engines. They are bulletproof if you keep up on the maintenance. In addition to your list of must-do items (trans, diff, etc.) I'd include replacing the grommets that take the water from the sunroof drain tubes out the front quarter panels. I've had these fail on three of my Rovers causing electrical damage when water accumulates in the rocker panels. Currently have a 2006 RR Sport, 2006 LR3, and 2006 L322 all with over 200K miles and they run great! Added bonus - the aluminum body panels still show no signs of rust! I'm nervous to step up to the 5L with the timing chain issues, but know that I'll likely go there someday... Thanks for the great review!

    Bought a 2007 4000 miles one owner, kept in a heated garage and rarely used, it's just 3.0 diesel but I had remapped, now gives me 12mpg more. The reason these engines come out of the factory detuned is that they are sold all over the world and their engines are expected to perform in places where fuel and oil could be significantly inferior, therefore it's deemed necessary not to extract every last bit of power out of it. Here in the UK these restrictions can safely be lifted.

    I think they have aged so well and look better than the current gen car to my eyes - blockyness suits it. I loved the Stormer concept expecially the rear taillights with the weird rubber gel cubes or whatever in them. That said when I sat in one at a motorshow I thought the interior materials looked and felt shit and not at all like a luxury car, compared to a range rover proper

    You certainly have a way with words, such as "They're as rare as an honest politician." I've been looking for a replacement to my 20 year old P38 (still running fine), but so many of the RR engines have known major faults, such as the 5 Liter V8 timing chains, others blow head gaskets, etc. Does the 4.2 have any major engine / transmission design defects? I don't mind doing my own work, but don't want to be stuck with a major repair bill (plus, the nearest dealer is 100 miles away).

    I've just bought an immaculate low klm 2010 5.0l Supercharged RRS actually. I had the 2005 RRS HSE 4.4 ( yes with the jag V8) when they first came out and loved it so much. The family had that car for 10 years and did nearly 250,000 klms in it and honestly it never missed a beat! yes we always had it maintained by LR and LR specialists. I loved this first gen RRS shape its similar in proportions to the Classic Rangie i.e. not as big as the L322. The first gen interiors and dash were always a 'bit cheap' Matt, I agree with you there, straight out of the Discovery's really. LR certainly improved them dramatically on the second gen RRS. In fact the interior on mine is bloody marvellous. Id agree wholeheartedly , keep them properly and regularly maintained by specialists that know them and they are very dependable. Don't cheap out on fuel and tyres... The petrol V8's are very strong units and yes the diesel V8s are awesome too. love the channel btw!

    I have a 61 plate HSE in Black with the 5.0 litre Supercharged V8 - 503hp/510ps. It feeds on Shell V-power and pulls like a train. Being a later model has much upgraded interior. Mine has now done 59k and always been very reliable, regularly serviced by JLR. The only issue has been a new suspension compressor a few months ago - no complaints for a 10year old car. Very comfortable, very practical and soothing to drive - a gem on long motorway journeys and as Mat suggests fuel consumption on such journeys a respectable mid-20s....and when you need to overtake....it absolutely flies with great V8 sound track and supercharger pulley whine....a little too addictive..😉 Highly recommended...

    David Ghaemi, wisest words ever stated. After owning RRC V8, P38 and D3 2.7 nothing prepared me for the poor quality of the RRS. It was only 8 years old and after 2 years and spending £1000's took it in to a different indy to put it up on the ramps and give me his "Honest" opinion. Brake pipes rusted, ace pipes rusted chassis rusted needs welding. His "Honest" opinion: get rid as soon as possible. Broke my heart to part with it, I loved that car such is ownership of the 8 year old RRS. As said by High Peaks if you can't maintain it yourself don't buy one. If you hear a humming sound then it might be a bearing somewhere. I had a similar problem in my Disco...the humming had a tendency to get louder the faster I went. I took it to a mechanic to sort it out but he didn't think there was a problem...until I was driving along one day when it broke down. He eventually found that the bearings in the gearbox got mashed. Another possibility could be the wheel bearings. My Disco did about 60,000 miles at the time. Good luck...hope this helps.
