I couldn’t agree more with Alex’s take on Jalen Green. I think that giving a 2+1 to a guy who you’re hoping will develop into a consistent volume scorer and your lead guard is a really weird choice, and it aligns so badly with this team’s timeline. The Rockets are best described now as an interesting collection of young talent that doesn’t have a ton of identity and hierarchy yet. Three years from now is when they’re hoping to become a real playoff team again. If they had given Green the rookie max, best case for Green’s development they have him locked up for a few years past when their core comes together, worst case scenario it’s only a 2024 rookie max which will hardly be an albatross by that point. Instead they risk having to choose between young players when the time comes.
It's fair to say that Jamal Murray is overpaid now because he's struggling, but it's kind of understandable. MPJ? Not at all. He got that contract despite having multiple back surgeries, and even though he overcame that and is a solid player, he is an inconsistent 3pt shooter mainly and not much else.
Hot Take: LeBron James has brought a championship to EVERY City he’s played for and appeared in 10finals. Jordan couldn’t and didn’t. Therefore LeBron James is more of a winning player than Jordan
Yes, LeBron did do that, but he has been on the losing side of 6 of those 10 Finals appearances overall while Jordan never was. LeBron also did not step up in a few of those Finals appearances, and he has played with a lot more high-level talent than Jordan did, which makes it worse that he has a losing Finals record.

Talk about if contracts are becoming outrageous and how we should look at them in relation to ourselves, the franchise income, the cap room, and the player market
I don't get this dude Jalen Greens contract is great not only because it helps getting rid of him if he doesn't pan out... but this gives the team more room to sign their other young players. This is not a max contract and if proven worthy the rockets could give two more max and sign Jalen as well
All of their young players are not gonna pan out to the same extent, and if they do, then you pull an OKC and flip the ones you don't want into picks and assets. I think they wanted to sign Green to a similar contract to Sengun, but Green wants to bet on himself. I think that the Rockets feel deep in their hearts that Green is a Julius Randle/Brandon Ingram type of player. A good player that thinks he is a great player. And if you sign those to maxes, you get in trouble. Look at Cade, Barnes, Franz, Suggs, and how these guys talked about their contracts. No brainer. Green has not separated himself enough from the pack to warrant going all in. And the Rockets have a ton of young guys who could pan out. So why go all in on Green, when there is competition for that Franchise guy position?
As for Lebrons post, I think there’s a big difference between bill cosby and Deshaun Watson Bill Cosby raped women Deshaun Watson paid women for weird sexual favors. Which you can feel however you want about his “kinks” but those women did consent and took the money. He didn’t sexually assault anyone.

If green does not get there, you don’t want the bigger contract.
I remember when OKC traded James Harden, everyone thought it was stupid. Compare that to now, I think most people don't have a problem with Green's extension. And if you put a gun to their head, I think most people would want to move on from Green vs giving Green the max, at this point in his career.
It's Detroit. It doesn't matter! Cadre is best player in the team so pay him. Jalen green us overrated but rockets don't have much options with no star talent unless they want to try and get picks, Rudy Robert is overrated while being a defensive anchor who is highly paid and doesn't do much else!
1st: STOP talking about $$$ and START talking about % of the cap. 30 mio, 40 mio, 50 mio is meaningless today. Cause the cap rises so fast, that it makes no real sense. In 2015/16 the cap was 70 mio, in 2025/26 it will most likely be 155 mio, in 2026/27 over 170 mio. Means a 30% Max started at 21 mio in 2015, next year it will start at 46.5... 10 years later! A good 3rd option 2 way starter earned 12-15 mio not even 10 years ago, thats now 30-35 mio. SAME % OF THE CAP! In 2005/06 the cap was 53 mio, in 2015/16 70 mio, in 2025/26 probably 155 mio... So back just 2 decades ago the yearly rise was about 2.8%, now its 8.3 ON AVERAGE. Times have changed, and so should the way we talk about sport contracts. Cunningham: Fairly payed, cause he has the talent to be a good 1st option and has All NBA talent. Nuff said. Green: Fairly payed, cause he is a young 2nd option with still more room to grow. The contract is good as well. IF the becomes a true star, the Rockets will pay him. IF he is still an inefficient volume shooter, they can retool the guard rotation in 2-3 years. Wagner/Barnes/Mobley. All slightly overpayed for me. BUT because of age and talent... they had to do it! Btw, right now Barnes looks like the worst of those 3. Cause I just dont see any real offensive upside anymore. Suggs. Fairly payed, cause he isnt a 1st option, he isnt a 2nd option, he is a 2ndary playmaker for others at best, and he is an elite defender. So 30 mio is ok. So everything around 15%-20% of the cap for an All Defense level defenser who is also usable on offense is a good deal. Johnson: Underpayed, cause he is clearly in the possible Allstar/All NBA conversation like Wagner/Barnes/Mobley. So this deal is really good for Atlanta. Only problem is his health. Hence why Johnson signed the deal in my opinion. Kispert: underpayed, I didnt think a young, high level shooter, who also isnt lost on defense could be signed to a contract like this anymore. This could be one of the best trade assets in the league right now. Sengun: Underpayed, cause he is in the Wagner/Mobley/Barnes group if it comes to talent. He has the biggest offensive upside of that group, but is probably the worst defender as well. But he is still an All NBA level talent.
@@urbaindelva7869 Has he? I dont think so. 20 PPG and 5 APG is pretty much what I expect him to average going forward. I just dont think he will ever be more. Mobley has the problem that he can not play his natural position. His stats look way better playing without Allen (thats also true the other way around btw). What specifically are you calling wrong? Because in your comment where you say “Players get an escalating contract to account for the cap increase”, that is not true. Some players get front-loaded contracts where they make less money per year as the contract goes on. It depends entirely on how it’s structured. Not every contract is back-loaded, and I’m confused where you’re drawing your information from. Could you elaborate further?
They increase too fast, which throws out our frame of reference. But that just means that the NBA is making that much more money. I think inflation also pays a part.

@@willstout5988 in relative to the context of the NBA yes they are underpaid. In relative to a regular joe like us (I'm assuming you are one) no they aren't. It's similar to Zeke Nnaji being a "trash" NBA player but put him against regular joes he will smoke them.
The cap analysis at the beginning is wrong.
Players get an escalating contract to account for the cap increase.
I can't wrap my head around the new NBA contracts. The numbers are too big. 🫠
They increase too fast, which throws out our frame of reference. But that just means that the NBA is making that much more money.
I think inflation also pays a part.
